The Propaganda that Shapes the USA | What German Students Learn about the Melting Pot Myth
The Propaganda that Shapes America 🇺🇸 | What German 🇩🇪 Students Learn about the Melting Pot Myth and U.S. Immigration Propaganda
How does the “Melting Pot” national myth shape today’s immigration propaganda in the USA? In this video, we explore what German students learn about U.S. immigration myths, highlighting the contradictions in America’s image as a land of opportunity. Using historical context, modern political rhetoric, and rhetorical analysis, we break down how the “Melting Pot” and “American Dream” myths continue to shape-and distort-immigration narratives today.
From the experiences of Dreamers to the impact of propaganda in modern political ads, we unpack the systemic pressures of cultural assimilation, border policies, and the selective acceptance of immigrants in America. Featuring quotes from leaders like Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, we analyze how this rhetoric influences perceptions of immigration and national identity.

2:30 someone says something. Share positive media. Nice try. That won’t work. You’re dealing with people who’ve already embraced a big lie, an essential part of which is to believe anyone or any source that disagrees is lying to them. Here’s how this actually works. Someone says something that you’ve never heard anything about. The best response is not ‘let’s look that up.’ It takes a leap of faith to challenge it. You’re response should be, ‘That’s bullshit.’ I’ve learned a lot of history, follow the news closely, have worked in politics, have a powerful bullshit detector. I was in a lawyer’s office when his partner burst in, “The Democrats want to take all our wealth. Biden has a bill to tax unrealized capital gains.” I knew about this, so I called him out. “A congressional staffer put that in a huge list of proposals. It was quickly shot down two weeks ago. Biden didn’t have anything to do with it.” Didn’t slow him down a bit. Finally I said, “Look, I don’t do anything based on fear.” Maybe the other lawyer I was speaking to learned something about Mr Panic. The only thing we can hope for with the ‘spreader’ is that they hesitate before they start shouting the next time. Based on speaking with Americans who voted for Trump in this recent election, they all watch Fox News, don’t get news from other sources. They believe most other news sources are ‘too liberal’ and cannot be trusted. They sound brain washed. About the excess 700,000 Americans who died from COVID as a direct result of Trump’s delays and interference? They will say, “What are you talking about Trump sped up the development of the vaccines.” “No, that was Fauci.” “Fauci, humpf.” That’s the exchange. They need to run into several people and sources that speak the truth about this, and not in a passive manner. Use the Socratic Method, is neutral (initially). Just ask questions. There’s a not very well put together video of how Obama does this. Obama’s a master. I think this video means well but is naive. If you really want to engage with the people in your world , establish a reputation for being insightful, correct, helpful and competent. It's great if part of this is having made a lot of money. Clearly you understand something much much better than most people if you're successful. But it takes intelligence and an open mindset to accept that maybe you should change your thinking. Not many people are like this. The most likely outcome of being repeatedly right is fixed mindset people will avoid disagreeing with you. They aren't 'cured' but at least they'll spread the lies less.

“Making it impossible to rise and leave the underclass of the working poor”. This is a patently false statement on its’ face. The only people in America that that actually applies to are Black Americans who are hindered, targeted, sabotaged and murdered, purposely, for every minute of America’s existence. All the latino immigrants you’re referring to are coddled and pampered, and they are often supportive of white supremacy and the racist system of tyranny called America. Have you even ever spoken to a Mexican immigrant about racism in America??

All my life there are three things that ALWAYS come to mind when I read, see, or hear anything How? Why? Then what? I am 60. I have been reading since the age of 3. I grew up reading anything I could get my hands on. My parents censored NOTHING. I read 3-4 newspapers a day. I knew what bias in media looks like by the time I was 10. What drives me nuts these days is people calling me an idiot.for asking logical questions that no one is vocal about and/or having forethought and the ability to think ahead and be able to say "that's not going to go the way you think it is." I have lost count of how many times I was called paranoid when I turned out to be correct.

This was through home econ, history and social studies, etc. I sincerely doubt this isn't the case today. The difference is some folks have been brainwashed into not believing the credible sources if it goes against Fox New Propaganda or Extreme Left Wokism. Sadly, these folks are the loudest.

No kidding. My wife and I lived in Kuwait for 10 years. Like 90% of our debt disappeared. By 2019 our credit score ( which was in the 500’s when we left the US) was now in the 790’s. We were able to get a 2.8% mortgage during COVID ( when we returned ) and bought a house. Which has been the best investment of our lives. But now we have a shitty credit score again. This is an example of how the whole US economic system is an exploitative racket aimed at just sucking money out of people and degrading them to be chained to employers who will never pay you what you are worth and will lock you into indentured servitude.

My question is, “Where is the propaganda?” Often times it’s a sandwich, it lays between two or more layers of truth. For example, the amazing book that was mentioned in the first few seconds of this video but not named and not shown. The media echoes propaganda, how else could it work? I check up to 6 sources and because my media sources are diverse, I’m not in an echo chamber of conservative or liberal news, and depending on what I’m researching I’ll look at the perspective of other centrist news from other countries as well.

Very interesting video. For me, whenever I see anything in front of my eyes that is not natural - I ask myself who paid for this and what do they want out of it. Because, at least in the US every single bit of media we see is paid for by someone or something for a particular reason. There are several motives which I think are important to know - it's the same as advertising. In America, reality itself is for sale to the highest bidder. The only choice we have is to note the difference between different corporations, industries or billionaires. Meanwhile China and even Russia are gaining on us, and over us, and in the case of China and the public sector they are pulling way ahead of us. Those US billionaires are sucking up everything they can from the people, impoverishing their minds, lives and bank accounts. The US needs a middle class revolution, and part of that should be the outlawing of billionaires.

How do you spot German propaganda? You seem to be an expert on the United States of America propaganda. You willingly made a decision to make your home in a country barely one generation removed from the most horrific crimes against humanity. Maybe you should go easy on the moral high ground thing. Most people are not interested in giving up their United States citizenship to get a few crumbs of benefits from the German authorities. Your little paradise over there is doomed. Your economy is in deep trouble as machinist strike to keep a plant open to build more cars no one wants to buy "VW". The demographics don't lie, Germany is running out of people. 125 years of terrible decisions, leadership, ideology and many other things has it's consequences. Good luck

Because Germany was infiltrated heavily, with their shift to Russian gas and switching off nuclear - you can see Russian fingerprints everywhere... And AFD is growing, openly supporting murderous fascist regime, while pro-Russian politicians which led Germany to this horrible crisis - are still in power, not accountable... I like healthy scepticism, but there is still anti-erivan bias in Germany which allows other forces to work
