Here in beautiful San Diego . Removing old footing from an existing arena . It currently has 2.5 inches of sand . We’re going to pile it up and get it out , get the sub grade ready for the 7” of DG base . When resurfacing an arena you always want to remove the old footing ( sand ) , after the arena footing is removed if the it is in the budget you want to add a base . The base will help preserv...

here im prepping a base for an arena. this is a pre existing arena that did not have a base . its always better to put a base on your arena if its in your budget . a good base will prevent your footing from mixing with any native dirt. it also keeps rocks from popping up and also mixing in with the footing. a good base will prevent mood and if graded properly will let water flow out and keep fo...

Here I am with the man the might the legend . Harry Houston Herndon aka triple H aka grandpa . One of the pioneers in the arena world . You will be missed my friend . This is one of the last jobs I did with you , spreading base for a lil backyard arena . Thank you for everything you thought me . I won’t let it go to waste .

    you gotta use that bucket too! thatll get the job done more efficiently and spread material more evenly and quicker. not bad for just using the box though

    What about fine tuning grades and slopes for drainage? Tips on controlling the cutting edge in order to remove high spots and gill in low spots.

      I set grade on dirt before I order DG , once I get subgrade ready I spread the DG 6" thick , then I set grade again on DG to fine grade base ..... I give it 1% slope so the water slowly drains from arena .... The skip loader has a nice feature called floater that locks the Gannon to make some passes to fill in low spots ..

    Have the truck driver spread the dirt for you, then just knock it down. This guy may be able to run a tractor but moving the base two times and long distances is a lot of extra work. There is more to being a good operator than just running the machine.

      That’s true, but many truck drivers are idiots and dump the material exactly what you told them not to!

    This is a long video and I’m still waiting for the “master” to show up. This guy is driving the machine quickly gouging the dirt with no pattern or plan at all aside from knocking down this pile in second gear driving erratically and making this simple project actually take longer than it should. To the viewer that has no experience wow he drives fast ma but this is barely the pathway to apprenticeville. Your wasted moves and dirt mixed in with your material points to a guy (you) who’s nothing more than a prima Donna with a sore neck in the recent future. Here’s a tip bro for free : slow is smooth and smooth is fast 💨

    • @angeljulian7343
      @angeljulian7343 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't. Mix the DG with native dirt at all . I don't think spreading 150 tons of DG on a pad that is 100'x200' is that bad . This is part one tho It did take me two hours to spread 300 tons by myself I think I could have done it in an hour and a half. .. I don't understand how I could have done it faster if you could show me a video of someone doing it better I would love to see . Or it sure sounds like you can do better. The people that taught me how to work lead by example and showed me they knew what they were talking about didn't just run at the mouth. And yes I had a pretty sore neck after. Don't know alot of construction workers that don't go home hurting after a long day. You must be the other guy.

    You are a master of the machine. It did not take you long and the floor is flattened. Question, is this skip loader heavy enough to do the compaction as it goes over the material?

    • @angeljulian7343
      @angeljulian7343 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s always best to use a roller to compact . But when I have to use a skip I fill the bucket with material and soak the pad and wheel roll it . It helps if the tires are older because new tires will dig into material . Also it takes forever to wheel roll but it can be done . If I had my choice on this one I would have used a drum roller it’s a lot faster and you get a better finish

    • @angeljulian7343
      @angeljulian7343 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yes . It takes alot of water to get good compaction. The DG will hold water good and compact . The native dirt has to take less water or it will get too muddy and difficult to work with. Thank you for your comment .
