    I just came across this from another weaver that was using a small loom. I love this! I teach sewing to kids and adults and it has lead me into other textile arts. I also crochet and I can knit. This would make a great kids class. Do you have any recommendations for a design that kids can do in one class? I haven't watched your video yet on making your own loom, but I imagine you can make it maybe half the size as the loom that you use? Thank you so much for this! I look forward to watching more of your videos.

    • @lucyjennings
      @lucyjennings 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've taught many kids to weave and found that they loved to weave with fabric strips because the strips weave up fast. I think using fabric strips or very thick yarn would be good for a one-session class. I have more lessons on weaving with kids here - thecreativitypatch.com/pages/how-to-weave-on-a-small-loom I also have a course on weaving with fabric strips, Weave Easy Mug Rugs. It will show you how to turn a book into a loom, too! thecreativitypatch.com/pages/easy-to-weave-mug-rugs

    Hey Lucy! Thanks a lot for the video. I'm making frame looms with a few of my classes in Taiwan and finding this video saved a lot of time and effort. I was wondering if you could make a video using it because I run into some problems getting an even shed while weaving. I can still weave well enough but it is just a little more difficult. Thank you so much for making weaving an accessible activity, even for those on a budget.

      Sewing the ends into the backside is a technique that many tapestry weavers use to finish up their weaving. It makes it so your weaving can lie flat. I'm sorry it didn't work for you.

    Neat idea with the template. I have a couple of your 'seconds' looms but haven't used them yet. I like the idea of using scrap fabric strips because I have a lot of those! Question: Why did you leave a notch on each side unwarped?

    • @lucyjennings
      @lucyjennings 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks, Kathleen! 🙂That's a good question. I left one notch on each side open because I was making a mug rug that was a little bit narrower than the width of the template loom. I have a course coming soon that will teach how to make mug rugs with fabric strips.

    • @lucyjennings
      @lucyjennings 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I made this 6 years ago, so I'm sorry I don't remember. I probably cut the strips 1/2 inch wide and the warp looks like 8/2 cotton @ 12 epi.

    I'm trying this technique for the first time and I also discovered that grouping the strings into groups of ten and tying them just under the twining I use to keep the warp strings in order helps me keep track of the warp strings so I'm less likely to get them out of order and can count them far easier.

    You are an inspiration ❤ I just looked all through your website. You have such a beautiful spirit about you and I love that you make your own looms and have this business and crafty life. If I were to purchase my kids each their own tiny kit on the same order, are you able to vary the yarn so everyone gets a slightly different color scheme or maybe one strand of primary color in each one. I have 4 able children, so like one string of a red, blue, pink, and green (a touch of their favorite color)? If you can’t do this I can do it when they arrive because I have plenty of yarn but it would be nice if they opened their boxes directly from the mailman and the strand to differentiate them was already snuggled in there ❤ what are your thoughts?
