My problem with the whole Pro Gun stuff is: -In alot of cases it's just American Materialism at it's worse, with the thin excuse of Freedome and Rights of a Law thaw was written centuries ago -It's just a circle of violence, robber breaks in victims house, victims gets better armed, another robber gets better armed for the future, while both sides think about taking someone life like it's something from a shopping list that needs to be done. -The moment someone decides to break into someones house or entertaints the idea of a next school shooting it's already too late. Instead of focusing everything on when the "worst case scenario" already happening, maybe try to find the reasons for it and prevent it from happening in the first place.

I'm not sure if the problem is police as a concept or our specific implementation of police. Police officers *should* be individuals tasked with looking out for a community, and that doesn't have to mean violence or coercion. Even in the US, police officers provide important services - keeping roads safe, responding to emergencies, searching for missing persons - but these are overshadowed by the way a lot of people (including police officers) see the job. A large cause of this is probably the War on Crime, which really solidified the idea that being a cop is about enforcement, rather than protection.
