212013- From this lecture, i could tell that the covid-19 pandemic has greatly affected the aerospace industry especially the aviation sector as travelling to other countries was strictly prohibited. Many nations which were dependent on the travel industry took a great hit. Many smaller aerospace companies also took a hit during this pandemic and a slowly recovering. They should widen their services and diversify their business to be resilient in the future. Thanks for the insightful lecture prof!!

213622 - Thank you, Prof., for the insightful lecture. I found the discussion on the differential impacts quite illuminating. The slow recovery in the commercial aerospace sector, contrasted with the stable defense sector, underscores the varying challenges and opportunities within the industry. Your points on the restructuring, cost-cutting, and supply chain management are particularly relevant as the industry navigates these unprecedented times. I appreciated the focus on new opportunities in urban air mobility and sustainable aviation. These areas highlight the industry's adaptability and potential for innovation, which is crucial for long-term growth. Moreover, the emphasis on digitization, AI, automation, and ESG practices as outlined by McKinsey, aligns well with the industry's need to enhance productivity and resilience.

211373 - Based on the lecture, the commercial aerospace industry experienced a severe downturn due to COVID-19, with a 68% drop in global air traffic in 2020. Full recovery is expected by the end of 2023 or later. Boeing and Airbus are increasing production, despite supply chain and workforce challenges. Investment in digitization, automation, and sustainability is essential. Narrow-body aircraft are recovering faster than wide-body aircraft, and new innovations in urban air mobility and sustainable fuels are emerging. Resilience, agility, and strategic investments are crucial for future growth and competitiveness.

This including the operational Challenges for Airlines faced including grounding fleets, managing travel restrictions, and implementing health protocols. However, after post-COVID-19, The commercial aerospace industry driven by gradual increases in air travel demand, strategic adjustments by airlines, and a strong focus on sustainability and innovation. However, improved financial conditions might be helping these companies recover. Currently, only around 10% of aerospace and defense companies intend to reduce investment in these areas, despite about half reporting a reduction between 2018 and 2019. Aerospace and defense companies initially cut investments in resilience and agility, but financial recovery is helping them catch up. The industry is focusing on restructuring, cost reduction, and supply chain improvements, with future growth driven by digitalization, automation, and sustainability. Aircraft deliveries are projected to return to pre-pandemic levels by 2024, with Airbus increasing production, signaling confidence in recovery. The Malaysian aerospace sector should incorporate these insights for strategic planning. Thank you prof.

[213816] - Thanks to your presentation, I now have a better knowledge of how COVID-19 severely affects the commercial aerospace sector. The military sector is holding steady, even while passenger travel and aircraft deliveries are steadily becoming better. These days, the industry's top goals are supply chain optimisation, cost reduction, and restructuring. Future development will be driven by advanced air mobility, hypersonics, and hydrogen-powered aircraft, which, in my opinion, calls for sustainability, automation, and digitalization. I think it makes sense to apply these findings for strategic planning in the Malaysian aircraft industry.

Other than that, I get to understand how curent situation may effect the financial performance, investment in technology, sustainability efforts, market dynamics, as well as geopolitical. I also understand that by these comprehensive evaluations help stakeholders to recognize the current challenges and oppurtunity for them to make decisions on growth, enhance competitiveness and foster a more resilient and sustainable aerospace industry. However, a stronger financial picture may be allowing these companies to make up for lost ground. Only about one in ten aerospace and defense companies plan to reduce investment in this area, while about half reported a decrease in investment between 2018 and 2019. 212978- Prof discusses the significant impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the commercial aviation industry. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported a 66% drop in revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) in 2020, marking the first decline since the 2008-2009 financial crisis. The air cargo market also experienced an 11% drop during the year, but load factors improved due to capacity reductions. According to a PwC report, revenue passenger kilometers are forecasted to improve by 50% in 2021, but will only reach half of 2019 levels. Boeing has over 4,700 Max aircraft in inventory to deliver, and plans to ramp up production to 31 aircraft per month by 2022. Airbus aims to increase production of the A320 to 45 per month by the end of 2021. The industry, which has become a critical part of global infrastructure, is expected to take until the end of 2023 to fully recover from the crisis. Additionally, many airlines will likely face significant debt, as seen with the case of AirAsia, which has been unable to pay passengers for canceled flights. The industry's resilience during past recessions highlights its increasing inelasticity.

210237- In year 2020 where the worldwide has been struck with unprecedented event of global pandemic of Covid-19. The restriction movement order is one of the major factor that lead to company losses where the significant reduction of air travel has been recorded throughout that year. Also, more aircraft grounded with respect to the less demand of air travel from point A to point B. Hence, the company who perform the MRO, supply chain and Airline itself can receive a major backslash throughout the event. Take an example of the in the PWC report at 15:30, from what we can summarize is that the reduction of passenger in need for air travel can cause a significant downfall for the major company like Boeing, airbus, spirit AeroSystems and other major suppliers despite a healthy backlog has been stated in 22:10 . Therefore, this major event of global pandemic is where the company has to deeply understand and learn their lesson for the any necessary contingency plan for faster recovery in Aerospace and Defense sector. As for the report itself are intrigue and a great stepping point for us to understand at the certain timeline of what happen to the industry at that particular year and have an open perspective from multiple report from other company for example Deloitte, PWC and Mckinsey.

209938- What I learned from this video is the critical importance of ensuring operational readiness and supply chain resilience in the aerospace and defense industry, particularly to meet increased demands in the single-aisle market while being prepared to navigate potential future pandemics. It's essential to streamline fixed costs, identify further cost-saving opportunities, and strategically prepare for upcoming OEM products and programs amidst fierce competition. Moreover, investments in digital and automation technologies, such as Industry 4.0, are crucial to enhancing competitiveness. Recognizing productivity drivers beyond volume growth is key, along with addressing trends like urban air mobility and CO2 emissions transparency in the supply chain. Effectively tackling emerging markets and competitors is vital, alongside exploring opportunities for mergers and acquisitions along the value chain while securing funding to support future growth waves.
