That's our Sarah...! Greetings from Marcali, Hungary where I am currently vacationing and drafting something I've never tried before. A romantic comedy. Yeah, for real. So far so good. It's called Twelve Nights in Prism. And am hoping I can coax Jason Sudekis to play the male lead...finding the Hungarian female lead will be a bit tougher. Wish me luck.
Rose, thank you for sharing these fascinating interviews. As a first-time writer, who is pitching agents now, I'd love to hear a conversation with someone like me who's entrenched in the process. It's inspirational to hear about the struggle as well as the success. Many good writers are in my season. I'd love to chat with you about this.
This interview was very helpful thank you very much.😊
Thank you 😊
Can you explain your sight/POV of the ending of Everything I Thought I Knew as the author of Everything I Thought I Knew? Here are some questions: Do you have any opinions on multi-universes? Do you think Kai was real? Can this happen in real life? How was Kai alive but dead? I know that these are a lot of questions but I would love to know your ideas, Thanks.
Congrats Elliot! 🎉
Great interview ❤
I love that Erin "broke" the rules, and took a very practical non-precious approach to her work.
A lot of people giving advice are doing it to build author platforms for their own interests. You don't see John Grisham or others doing this type of thing. The authors who are not big are just using the advice ploys to give audience numbers for book deals. Everyone is basically giving the same advice as everyone else.🤦🏿♂️
I finished this book earlier today. I also live in Oregon. It’s really cool to read a book in my general area. Thank you both!
Love this! Pitch Wars was so instrumental in the characters of writers out now with their debuts.
Very insightful and thank you for that! In regards to the journey from writing to publishing, if you could go back and give your earlier self some advice, what would it be?
What does a really good writer say? 😊
what a great episode! so many topics is such a concise format- querying to editing to signing!
Has traditional publishing gone woke? How does this viewpoint affect future writers?
Hey, I just found your videos in my feed and I love the videos. :) 🙌
Literary agents are leeches.
Wow! Very nice mam
Hi, Hope you are well, I visited your TH-cam channel and your video-making is very good. Your content ideas are very good. But the videos are not SEO due to which the views and subscribers are not increasing in the videos Below we found your channel Issue check this: 1. Not youtube channel SEO and video optimization 2. Title not optimized 3. description not optimized
Thank you ladies! I’m going to be querying soon and won’t forget to mention this awesome interview! 😁
Very insightful
I really enjoyed this interview. It was so relatable. Thank you for creating a positive space for agents and authors to share their journeys in publishing. 🙂.
Host talks approximately 75% of the time, giving guest barely 25% of time :(
I noticed this, too, unfortunately. Seems like newbie interviewer, more conversational style, less professional interview approach. Interviewing is an art form. I'm always impressed with people who do it well. That said, I still enjoyed hearing from this agent.
Kaitlyn is on my shortlist for 2024 querying and this is so helpful! Thank you both for your time. I hope to contribute to that Writer's tears bottle she has but with happy tears of representation bliss :D
Kaitlyn sounds like an awesome agent---creative brainstorming is the best!
Unfortunately, "Author Mentor Match" is no longer an option.
Very true! So sad to see the program gone. I hope someday we can get another great similar program!
@@authorsandagentspodcast I applied for "Round Table Mentor" this year. They are new, but seem really nice people. They even let every participant join their Discord.
I agree!! I'm definitely a "multi-genre" writer. Goodness, you're a multi-dimensional person, so it's only natural that you would be the same with your writing!😊😊
So enjoyed this! Amy obviously has a British accent so I didn't know if she was talking about the UK or USA publishing scene?
This was about the USA publishing scene.
What a grounded voice in agenting--nice interview, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I don't know.....my historical romance, family drama book is like nothing I can compare to. So... how can I compare it?😅
Oh man, that's a hard one! Find other books that have similar elements and call those out!
@@authorsandagentspodcast 😂 it's a strange family and every family has their unique issues. Thanks, I will try again.
Have you read any of Lisa Jewell’s books? They’re very good and most of them involve strange families. She has an extensive backlist, but puts out a new one just about every year. I read And Then She was Gone and after that I had to read the entire backlist plus everything new she writes.
Everything I thought I knew put me through a lot
Thank you for this!
My pleasure!

Great interview. I like how you went back and forth between questions about the industry and questions about her life and career.
Thanks! I think it's important to understand the agent as a person too!
About 17 minutes in, does anyone know what the agent said about hooking her? It didn’t come out clear and what she was saying sounded important
I’m just going through every one of your videos, one by one, and writing down all new and helpful information. My current book, when it’s edited to the point where I can’t stand to look at it anymore, is the one that will find representation. Thanks for the videos
You're so welcome!

Another great interview. Mostly enjoyed Ann cementing those openers into my head. I’ve learned to leave waking up and Dialogue openers alone
Interview starts at 6:45
I’ve queried Carly in the past. She’s great for a quick response. This was four to five years ago before I learned about comp titles. Thrilled she mentioned the use of classics because I follow one writer who landed representation by saying “my book is basically Jane Eyre in space.” This time, when I start querying again, I’m going to focus heavily on the comp titles as I’ve recently learned of their importance. Thank you for another great interview
Ended up buying some fiction novels written along the same lines as my own. Going to read them and use them as comp titles, then research the agents who sold these books
Thanks for sharing, Rebekah. Awesome insight. Thanks, Rose.
Always nice to hear from a Literary Agent, and yourself. Thanks
Chloe Seager has made it onto my wishlist. Thanks Rose.
Awesome insight. Rose, thank you for bringing us firsthand insight from Jessica.
Nice one, thanks for all the tips!
Dear Ms. Levick, By what criteria do you assess the potential commercial viability of literary fantasy? Is looking at a novel and writer like looking at a golden fish through the refraction of water? In your career who is the big fish who got away? From the standpoint of current reality, we live in a zeitgeist of horror. I note that as of 8/25/22 Writers House says you are not open to query.
For a writer whose stories be his children, he needs a midwife as literary agent. Every new rough ms. is coated with vernix caseosa.
Interview starts at 2:35
