Im N#2 like, I missed the being first
oooh so close!!!
You sir are the BEST! I have searched all over the internet trying to find the answer to this one question that you were gracious enough to make a video and SHOW me how it works. At 12:44 in the video above you explained what "fully defined" actually means. The typical answers from others has been "You just need to define the dimensions and the X and Y" but they never explained how to do that. They would say other things like "It needs to know where it is in space" or "Apply the constraints correctly" But now you EXPLAINED WHY! For me, I am a "why learner" Once I know why I can apply it to other things. You've got my vote sir, AND a new subscriber. Many many thanks. And BTW, your idea of answering questions is an awesome one. If you could find a forum somewhere that people could send in their questions and you could answer them on YT would be great.
Wow, thank you so much for this amazing comment-it absolutely made my day! 🙌 I'm so glad the explanation clicked for you and helped fill in the 'why' behind fully defining sketches. I’m a big believer in learning by doing (and learning from those little missteps along the way), so it means a lot to hear that my teaching style resonates with you. Welcome to the channel and the MesaMakes community! I really appreciate your support, fill out my form if you want any specific help on something I haven't covered yet. forms.gle/k1tj8k6DZA3u2yvy9
You have mastered Onshape well. But I watched your video hoping that you could tell me how to define circles. All the circles you drew you started at the origin and it defines as black no problem. But suppose you wanted to start your circle away from the origin? When I draw circles, they are undefined because they are not started at the origin. I have a reason for wanting my circles to be away from the origin, but am having a tough time getting them to go from blue to black (defined) If I click on the circle center then to the origin, it will jump to either the horizontal or vertical, but still isn't defined. I can't figure out how to constrain the other axis (either horizontal or vertical) Do you have a video on how to do that?

-- Thank you!
@@RussianThunderrr Thank you for the view!!!!
@@MesaMakes -- Thank you for keeping it simple, and very informative! I do like Toby's tutorials, and so is Wolfgang, but your are very thural in explanation that geared towards the beginners, something that OnShape proprietary tutorials are missing. You are a great communicator. Thank you, once again!
@@RussianThunderrr That's great to hear I'm glad you like the channel! I teach High School Shop classes so beginner tutorials is my expertise lol.
@@MesaMakes -- Yes, what makes your channel unique, as opposed to more experience and advanced channels like Toby or even OnShape, they do not know what the beginner needs anymore. I used to tutor myself in computer programing languages, and after a few year of advancing, you naturally lose the "beginner perspective", and that is what makes your channel valuable vs others. Like I said keep doing what you're doing - it will "snowball", that as we know is very hard to get going, but once it "blow up" to big size, it will be just keep growing "words of mouth", times TH-cam algorithm!
@@MesaMakes - I have also a question pertaining Loft feature - so I was intending to use a loft feature to create/cover J3 Cub cowl, so there are seven main sections, and to keep it strait forward, instead of one huge blotted Loft, I wanted to dedicate six Lofts to create a covering surface, however once curvature(which is "wire frame of the sketch) selected and becomes part of Loft it despairs from "wire frame" of the sketch, and there is just void there, so it is impossible to use a next section Loft command. I did found a "work around" this problem with solution of "Composite Curve" which "overlays" dark black lines over somewhat slightly more pale black(or gray) lines of wireframe, and "Fill" command to create a surface instead of Loft, but I just wonder what is the reason behind disappearing lines?
-- Keep doing, what you're doing, I just found this video, and subscribed to your channel. I'm trying self learn CAD and 3D printing for a couple of month, and those two buttons were a mystery to me, but not anymore. Thank you!
@@RussianThunderrr Thanks and yeah I was the same way at first. I learned a thing or two making these videos as well. Do you have a specific project in mind or just all types of 3D Printing?
@@MesaMakes -- Also, let me know if I can be at any help too, in any way, just let me know.
How do you make "for construction line"?
When creating the geometry press the "Q" key on Your Keyboard to cycle between regular and construction geometry. If you already have geometry drawn select the lines and then toggle them to construction by pressing "Q". Hope this Helps.
Thank you! I really like the format of a deep dive into a specific function. Your teaching style makes it easy to absorb.
Comments like these make it all worth it!! Sometimes I feel like I go for too long LOL.
Awesome tutorial! Thanks Mesa Makes!!
Thanks for the support! Glad it lives up to Toby Standards!!!
Just starting out in Onshape and am very grateful for your wonderful instructional content. Can’t wait for the next one.👍
Thanks for the feedback and support what kind of projects are you making with OnShape?
@ Currently small items for my RC flying hobby and jigs ,brackets and dust extraction adaptors for my woodwork hobby. I am still a very basic user of Onshape but hope to get better as my skills improve.
shoot me an email with a napkin sketch of your dust adapter design it would be perfect for my next video on the Loft Tool.
@ I have done a freehand sketch for you but don’t have an email to send it to you. If you know how to do it through TH-cam then please let me know.
@ Mesamakes209@gmail.com it’s in the description of my main channel page.
how would I center one rectangle inside another?
Best option would be to use the Center Point Rectangle tool (R Shortcut Key) and draw a rectangle to your desired size then click the center point of that rectangle and draw the next one to size.
@@MesaMakes that's what I ended up doing, but I'm wondering if I already have 2 rectangles, is there an easier way than getting the dimensions of the inner one, deleting it and re-drawing it using a center-point rectangle?
@ if it’s the same dimension all the way around use the Offset (O Keyboard shortcut) to off set the whole rectangle a specific distance inside or outside of your existing geometry.
@@MesaMakes ah! that's a good one too. thanks!
You probably don’t remember me but I took your shop skills class my freshman year and we did an electrical unit and it made me want to become an electrician. Couple years later I am now an IBEW Electrician thank you.
Wow! That’s so awesome to hear! And yeah I remember you. Can’t place a year but I’m Glad that class inspired you! What local are you out of my brother is also an electrician?

I wann to learn how to Design cowls and Canopy hoods for Model aircrafts
Are you looking to do this and 3d print it out ?
@@MesaMakes Yes, and end if not printing it, want to learn how to create it. One of my attempts can be found under the name Motorhaube_Remo in Onsahpe
-- Lol, I was doing the same thing. How about simple Piper J3 Cub cowl 150mm(width)x150mm(height)x150mm(length) of which width and height is airplane's fuselage cross section at firewall, since it is kind of squire with slightly rounded top, and length is the engine bay to accommodate(it will fit) 90size glow or 20cc gas engine, which is for size 90 model, with wing span of roughly 80"-90". Curiously I splited this cowl to "hood and chin"(usually half, but I used a mirror function already for CAD drawing purposes) part, but I can see curvature transition lines on my printed surfaces. That is why I look for more info on how to analyze curvatures.
-- BTW, if you need, I have both parts guides/dimensions, they both(hood and chin) designed with just strait lines and 3 point arcs, with 8 offset planes in front view, and single plane in top and right view planes. I stayed away from complex curves, just to keep it simple, but it looked remarkably like Piper's J-Cub cowl...
Hi, the midpoint was the one i was a bit lost, thanks for clarification. Keep up the good work
Thanks, very informative
Could one modify singel letters manually placing brigdes?
Not very easily. The workaround is to use various layers or import the text back in as a DXF then manipulate it from there.
Nice job and helps a new to CAD maker. This might be out of the scope of your training syllabus however I am trying to make a pin that is pointed and has serrations along its shaft. These are used in some assemblies in lieu of screws and are made of TPU or Nylon.
Send me a pic of what you are kinda looking for even if it’s just a rough sketch and I can do a step by step tutorial. I think revolving it would be the best way from the description given but let me know at mesamakes209@gmail.com
Question: 2 circles non of them yet constrained. I select the concetric tool which one of the 2 cirlces will move? Is it the one i click first, orthe smaller into the bigger? I tried do not come to a conclusion.
It looks like it’s a left to right thing the one closer to the left side of the screen is like the anchor point if nothing else is fixed and all geometry is just free floating with no dimensions. If I give a dimension of x” from the origin then the other circle will move to the one that is more defined (not always fully defined)…… hope this helps
Thanks for picking up my question about "meet 2 lines" The cooincident constraint does partually fullfill what i thought of,
It was perfect timing! Keep the questions coming glad it’s working out!
I do like the format. Sometimes for new Cad users its like drinking from a fire hose.. Each tip with added practice always helps.. Nice video, you are easy to listen to and get right to the point.
Right on thanks for the feedback!! Glad it’s working out for you
Hi, thanks for series of tutorials. I used Turbocad in the past and got used to a feature "meet 2 lines". Instead of extendig 2 lines one. Is there such an option in Onshape?
Thanks for the support!! As far as I know they don’t have an explicit feature like meet two lines but I would use the coincident constraint on the two points you are trying to have meet to accomplish something similar. Stay tuned cause that’s what we are talking about on Monday’s next episode.
Thank you for makimg these videos, I set up onshape yesterday and I am trying to learn it.
No problem this is what it’s all about!! What are you trying to make with onshape I can do some specific tutorials if needed
