    Okay, here is a question regarding endurance ride for time crunched cyclists. We know the longer they are, the more effective. But what is the minimum duration for it to take effect? If I can pull a 45 min endurance ride each morning, would that help? Or is it a case of more harm than good?

    I have been riding bikes for over 50 years. I completely agree with this youtuber: do not submit to the tyranny of metrics like Watts and HR (unless you are a high-level competitive cyclist whose livelihood depends on them). Your body always knows better. I stopped using a heart rate monitor years ago. All it did was raise my stress level. I will never use a power meter either for the same reason.

    I needed this video! My biking journey started on BMX, then Downhill racing, then cross-country, and endurance road cycling. I have ridden the huge drops on an expensive bike and 300+ miles in a weekend on a borrowed sub $400 bike. Got married and sold all 4 of my bikes to pay bills. Over the past 10 years, I have gained weight being at an office job. Now, I have 3 kids and my weight has yoyo-ed during the past year. My wife and I decided I needed to bike again because I miss it so much and I need it for my health. I need to "embrace the season" I'm in and start small with slow, more frequent rides.

    • @semiprocycling
      @semiprocycling 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @BOBFudge It’s great to hear that you’re getting back into riding-sounds like you’ve had quite the journey on two wheels! You're right about starting small and focusing on consistency, especially when life and responsibilities have changed so much. A comfortable bike that suits your current needs, regardless of style or price, will help you ease back in. Prioritise frequent, enjoyable rides over long or intense sessions at first. Embrace this season, take it one ride at a time, and enjoy the process-welcome back!

    Good advice. I knew most very early on. As a kid when on holiday in Italy at the Riviera I knew I wanted to cycle the coastal mountains. The Netherlands the country I am from has no maintains or real elevation. Twenty years later I managed to cycle there for one week, as a preparation for the Marmotte in France. It was the best cycling week I ever had. I was cycling with a vriend of mine. We encountered some Italian cyclists the way up a few times and raced them to the top. It was really terrific. I knew instantly as a kid that racing up the mountains was what I wanted to do. Self motivation was a speciality of mine. Reading the mountain road another. It is the absolute best feeling riding on the edge climbing out of the tree zone on hairpin road.

I get stronger and faster by default. It's unavoidable... and when I apply these methods learned from videos, all of a sudden I find myself trying to find time to ride.. oh it's too hot... its too cold... I wanna got to the movies..etc. I find people I like to be around and I ride with them. That's it. But that doesn't make for a sustainable career making youtube vids.

    Improve CONNECTION with you audience with ONE simple technique: I enjoy your videos, but I feel it's worth communicating that I get turned off by the click bait titles of your videos. I actually can't think of a single video where I didn't get something valuable out of it. However, there are many videos that I have not watched simply because the titles imply to me that I'm going to get an over simplistic and inaccurate overview of a topic. I also feel like the titles over promise and therefore the videos under deliver. It's not that the videos lack value. It's just that the titles promise more than the video can fulfill. I feel like you underestimate (dramatically) the sophistication of your audience. The people who will enjoy the video that your titles promise will never enjoy the detailed videos that you actually make. So you attract people who don't want your content and push away people who do. Finally, I feel annoyed at times when you make sure to state your credentials at the beginning of every video. As I state earlier, your videos are nowhere near as simplistic as your titles imply. A viewer of your videos is unlikely to want to watch a single video of yours because it is clear, upon watching, that the topic is complicated and there is value in watching more. Your reputation will come with repeated viewing and it is unnecessary to justify your position of giving advice. The statement of credentials makes our relationship (of creator and regular viewer) awkward and uncomfortable.

    • @semiprocycling
      @semiprocycling 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi @urouroniwa thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and for being a regular viewer. I really appreciate your feedback and your honesty-it’s clear you’ve put a lot of thought into this, and that means a lot to me. I understand your concerns about the titles and the approach I take with them. My goal has always been to make the videos accessible and appealing while delivering in-depth, valuable content. It’s a balance I’m constantly trying to get right, and your perspective helps me see how I might be missing the mark for some of my audience. Regarding credentials, I want to reassure viewers of the expertise behind the content, but I hear you on it feeling redundant or uncomfortable. I’m going to rethink how I can better integrate this so it feels more natural and less like a formality. Your feedback is a great reminder of who my core audience is, and I’m grateful for your continued support despite these frustrations. I’ll definitely take this on board as I refine my approach moving forward. Thanks again for your valuable insights-comments like yours are what help me improve and keep the content relevant.

    I always thought the talk test was for when you don't have a heart rate monitor and you want to find zone 2 lol. If you already have an hr monitor, just go off that to find zone 2.

    • @semiprocycling
      @semiprocycling 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi @brittle1 the talk test is indeed useful without a heart rate monitor, but even with one, more data points can help refine training. Heart rate alone can vary due to factors like cardiac drift or hydration. Combining HR with perceived effort or power can give a clearer picture, helping you get the most out of your ride time. It’s all about maximising efficiency and adapting in real-time.

  • @mikecoglione1308

    I agree in the theory but the reason why I went to power based training is because the heart rate doesn't detect short bursts that can ruin a zone 2 ride and I can talk through even zone 4 power and HR of 150ish. A lot of people who aren't good climbers yell at me "NO TALKING ON HILLS", I can talk through just about anything save the hardest efforts so not really a useful tool.

Start with hatha yoga for a year or two and try ashtanga as dedicated as your endurance activity. Your injury prevention and recovery will hit an another level. I'm not sure the video owner answered what exactly you are supposed to do.. my 2 cents

    I simply like riding my bike. I like looking at it.... I like knowing how it works. They are fun devices that capture my curiosity. I also like going place and riding my bike. It's fun to cruise through an area, town, over bridges... the scenery is nice when going through back roads and over hill climbs. I do enjoy the challenge of the endurance and a little bit of the pain. Mostly though, I like to ride my bike. I will do group rides on occasion but I only try to keep up to a certain degree. My goal is always to just get where I am going and enjoy the sights on the way. I do check my strava and measure myself against others but it only goes. as far as knowing where i sit with other riders. Every once in a while I get a bee in my bonnet and go on a quest to ride a route faster than I have before and when I do It feels better than when I see that I am faster than someone else. Somehow that's not a lasting joy so much as out doing my own efforts.That's a long way to go to simply say.... try riding your bikes to support an adventure. Like a car trip or a train ride it can be fun and enjoyable... pick a destination and go.

    I have a question. So I am a cyclist, so I eat 2500 calories in a day and I cycle for 3 hours, where I burn 1500 calories. So do you think I am in a calorie deficit? Because we also normally burn calories around 1800 or 2000 just by living, so seeing that, am I on a calorie deficit?? And if not, just tell me how to be on calorie deficit and burn more calories than eating because burning 2500 calories is very difficult. And can you please tell me how many calories you burn in a day? That would really be helpful if you answered because I am just learning things.

    • @semiprocycling
      @semiprocycling 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @Karan19880 This is a very broad estimation to give you a starting point, but if you’re calorie counting, you typically want around a 500-calorie deficit at the end of the day for sustainable weight loss. So, if you’re burning 1800-2000 calories just by living and an additional 1500 calories from cycling, that’s about 3300-3500 calories burned in total. To achieve a 500-calorie deficit, you’d aim to eat roughly 2800-3000 calories in a day. Adjust based on your specific goals and how your body responds. But why not try eating right for your cycling and then the tips in this video? If you're monitoring regularly you'll be able to adjust and it will be easier in the long run to maintain.
