The designs are so cute!!

YES on being a child of immigrants and feeling the pressure of being the first. I went to school for animation too and now work as a. freelance illustrator and a government worker as a day job. I feel bad that I'm not making 100k and it gives be horrible anxiety. Trying to work on that. But the pressure you feel and the disappointment you feel when it's not met... It's a whole thing.

I took like figure drawing class But I lived in a small town. So there weren't that many models for the school to actually hire. And most of them were female. And guys are usually shyer than women when it comes to like being nude. I think there's always more female models than male ones. I could be wrong, that's just my experience

I was like watching proko Podcast and him and Marshall said art school really is never worth it. Because most clients they only care about if you have the skills to do the work. So most art jobs don't even care. If you have a degree. You're also wasting a lot of money if it's a good art school. Because if you go to a bad art school it's cheap but you don't learn anything. And nowadays with the internet you can buy online courses and books and you can basically learn everything you need to at a fraction of the price. There's this professional concept artist. Trent kagiuga He's been a concept artist for games for like 20 plus years. And he always says don't go to art school because it don't teach you that great on what you need to work professionally. Like in school they don't really tell you what to put in your portfolio. He still has like people applying for work to his company for concept art. Sending him like pictures like paintings of their dog and stuff like that. And he says it blows his mind after like these people spent $200,000 at an art school and they still don't know what concept art is and what they should be including in their portfolio. Concept art isn't about paintings. It's about functional design. You have to like design buildings and props and they have to work. Like if you were designing a real product you have to know its functions and the layout. It's very mathematical type drawing kind of like Scott Robinson's perspective book. Marshall says it's incredibly hard to like make a living as an artist some people just get lucky. He said. Some people could like get jobs right away. Other people spend end over 10 years looking for work. The only reason that you would need to go to art school is if you lived in another country and you needed a Visa . Because having a degree is supposed to make it easier to get a Visa.

i feel the same; Animation is not suited for students to work independently,cus real life ,your are supposed to work as a team. I feel so exhausted doing everything myself. your video and other TikTokers who feel the same way. This needs to be said. Graduating with an animation degree we have always left with unanswered questions about where this degree takes us. The animation community is so small and very competitive. we always hold this unrealistic expectation that we must be experts once fresh out of college. I am not the most brilliant Animator, I am quite crude. But there are so many animators whos are beyond more talented and still struggle to find a job in the animation industry. Animation is better suited as an apprenticeship than a degree. Because with Appritership - at least you gain work experience, which is what most employers seek.

Many of the things you described at the end resonates with me so much. The struggle with maintaining physical and mental health, relationships, finances. And feeling like your reality as a whole just isn't looking good. This video was 6 months ago, so I hope you've been doing better, even if just a little.

God i definitely feel the stress of a business im trying to start mine soon and its been a stressful adventure. But honestly I feel like its 100% worth it to not do that annoying 9 to 5 job. But ig this is all to say no matter what happens you got this!!^^

I feel you on the family support part. I go through the same struggle. Unfortunately they don’t consider being an artist as a “real” career until you start seeing a lot of success. It’s annoying. I just separated myself from their opinions, focused on my goals and stopped seeking their validation. Keep it going girl you’re doing an amazing job and we’re all here to support! 💪🏾💪🏾
