While I do not agree with most of your recommendations in terms of water volume, I must say that there is nothing inherently bad about bowls for fish. An appropriately sized bowl for the species it houses can make a great home. I will also say that smaller bowls are probably not for beginning fish keepers as many things can go wrong, particularly if a filter is not used. Get some experience keeping a 10 gallon with a filter and growing plants before venturing into something smaller.
