What I still would like to know… is ballet for boys a sport, a passion they carry on doing, even if they don’t get a career out of it? Does a male dancer continue dancing if he doesn’t get a chance to dance as a professional? What happens to all the boys who are considered “not good enough”?
Jeez! Not manly enough? Have you seen the srms on the male dancers? They are lifting, holding or carrying the the female dancer, then there's the legs all that movement keeps them super lean but muscular. Those ancient stereotypes that embraced the John Wayne code of conduct is ridiculous
I way prefer men in tights😉😘the talent, athleticism, grace and the strength of character it takes (even though it shouldn’t) to pursue a ballet career has always had me swooning. I have never understood why the stigma. I third they were the smart ones choosing a career that got them to work with gorgeous, talented and beautiful women all day to me sounded like a great choice for a career.
Barishnyikov was and still is hot those thigh muscles when he danced were amazing and there have been members of the Sydney Dance co (men) that have had women subscribing not just for the dancing!!!💃
In this day and age do we even need to defend ballet dancers and whether they're manly (whatever the F$CK that is!) and air some idiot's opinion about it? Of course not. I love all the comments by people saying that some guy they know takes ballet and he's masculine. Who the F$CK cares?
Siempre admiré el ballet maculino, de Nijinsky en adelante. Me impacta la fuerza, gracia, atletismo de sus actuaciones. Y una increíble magia personal de Baryshnikov, Nureyev y en sudamerica Bocca.
I find male dancers very masculine. My 10-year-old daughter has been dancing for years and I find it a shame that there's rarely boys in her classes. Boys should take advantage of that and be around the girls all the time...
Oh it was so good to see Valentine have such a positive ending. I mean, I have no idea what the ranking system, or issues are of these schools and institutions… but, the positive growth of his character is worth so much more than just simple usual climb to success… he might not see it yet… but, this actually puts him much more ahead of his peers in the game of actual life. Bravo!!
Many of these gay men having their 'moment in history' is just another period when they felt entitled to openly flaunt their sexual preferences. This also happened around the world, and is still happening. The physical beauty of all male classical dancers is beautiful to behold. But, I just think that real historical works of art like Swan Lake, should not be tinkered with. Would you like to see a moustache on the face of the Mona Lisa? Why? Just to 'make a statement' about how clever and 'special' you are? Childish and insecure.
I love watching the ballet and that's as far as I go. A spectator...but what a fantastic video this was, very informative and entertaining, showing such sensitivity to these young men and their profession. Shame on that US TV host, what a shallow person she is, but I'm glad she apologised (or was made to apologise??) to Prince George, how disrespectful to him, the Royal Family and the ballet world in general...good on all of those ballet dancers who went out in protest!! cheers and happy New Year from Western Australia
I am from Turkey and watching these wonderful male dancers reminded me of Oktay Keresteci, a first class male ballet dancer, flying through the air. I had to pay a tribute to him via this video; thank you
I was so pleased, to see black men featured in this documentary! Growing up here in the U.S, black people really don't believe that being an artist is ok, but definitely being a ballet dancer is so shunned! So whenever I see us in the room it brings me to tears, because you no longer feel alone! I'm so thankful to be a dancer!!!!
I personally think it's the men who are most insecure in their masculinity who dislike male dancers, since those dancers have a confidence they themselves don't. Real men and women know that both great feminity and great masculinity require confidence and embracing who you are.
I wish I was close enough to go to the ballet. Where I lived there’s no option. These wonderful men are very special and very hard workers. They are all amazing and we should celebrate them all.❤
Male dancers wear a "dance belt", and are some of the strongest, best athletes on the planet!! That's without even mentioning the years of training and discipline involved in becoming a dancer.
I know many male dancers. I’d say nearer 50%. Out of the dancers featured in this, most are straight. So your comment doesn’t really hold water and just continues the preconceptions. There’s room for everyone these days in ballet.
I remember in may e late 70s/early 80s when there was a tv show that pitted elite athletes against male ballet dancers. The dancers had phenomenal strength, power, stamina and agility and they beat the athletes in almost every category. The sportsmen were very impressed.
I studied dance as a male dancer a long time ago and had to stop because of hip problems. I watch this video with great interest and nostalgia... What concerns me a lot: I actually find in this video with these wonderfully athletic, powerful men that there are many moments where the men and their movements have something very feminine about them (especially Nureyev, when it is said of him how he promoted masculinity in dance). Well, certainly 70-80% of male dancers are gay. It's a pity that this fact is so (shamefully?) ignored here and that the unconditional masculinity (whatever that is) has to be emphasised. The only man in this video who speaks directly about his sexual orientation is straight - and he is certainly an exception. It's also a bit of a mystery to me that ballet actually attracts a lot of gay men. And at the same time, and this film shows this so wonderfully, ballet is a high-performance sport at this level. I find the statement that male ballet combines athleticism and grace extremely fitting and beautiful, that sums it up for me :-) To put my question (I feel that I have one 🙂) another way: I'm sure that even the men who are so very athletic here are gay more often than average and I still wonder why that is so and criticise the fact that it is so prudishly excluded in this film. That's it.
I remember hearing an interview done by Ballanchine and he said, "ballet is women". So it's interesting to see a whole cast of male ballet dancers only. Hmmmm
Ballet is bloody difficult. There was one guy at my school and guess who went on to international success.....

How did I miss that ridiculous ignorant American TV presenter disrespecting a Prince of the United Kingdom and future King, and above all, a small boy. That’s bullying a small boy. It’s seems it’s an American thing. Wasn’t she suspended or fired? What a piece of work she is.
Ballet dancers usually start to decline in physical skill around age 35. That is how hard it is! It took me until age 69 to understand ballet by endless studying of Rudolf Nureyev. Until you willfully study this form of dance, you don't get it!
I was a professional ballet dancer for over 10 years. The way these men could lift me with such ease was amazing. ❤❤❤❤ I had 100% trust in these men. They are strong! Anyone who doubts them are weak and insecure. I would love to see any hater try to do what these men can do!
They're all lovely looking dancers❤❤❤
Matt Ball what an inspiration 🎉🎉🎉❤❤
Steven McCrae is my very favorite❣️

omg they are true athletes and beautiful stealth I like swoon wtching them
Taskmaster-yikes.
Phenomenal!👏👏👏💞

It’s the men who are the structure of the dance. Watch and marvel, explosive power with incredible grace and control.
Bravo!!!! BRAVO!!!!! BRAVO, beautiful, talented, brave boys!!!! I am in tears!!!!
Absolutely loved this thank you so much
It’s time for choreographers to stop using men as props for female ballerinas. More modern and less classical please.!

This was the most interesting documentary I've seen in years. I love these boys for what they achieve.Very beautiful and I am in love with all.
Many US football players have used ballet for strength, stretching, and conditioning.
Oo, these guys are gorgeous! Those muscles, that strength, that grace!
You are a bit naive and out of touch and uneducated about blwck men in the ballet. Wake up!
Siempre admiré el ballet maculino, de Nijinsky en adelante. Me impacta la fuerza, gracia, atletismo de sus actuaciones. Y una increíble magia personal de Baryshnikov, Nureyev y en sudamerica Bocca.
I'd love to see *mostly* male ballet, with only 2 or 3 women. I love to watch men dancing to everything... many different styles! 😊
I find male dancers very masculine. My 10-year-old daughter has been dancing for years and I find it a shame that there's rarely boys in her classes. Boys should take advantage of that and be around the girls all the time...
Such magnificent beauty, and grace, I am amazed and awe struck at these fabulous young men and women. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

This generation of male dancers is spectacular.

Amazing men fantastic dancers respect ❤
Ballet dancers are some of the best athletes with amazing strength and endurance. Their bodies are complete muscle.

17:30 Matthew Ball is indeed the epitome of grace and strength. 😍 And he looks like a Prince Charming. 🤭
Fabulous program! Personally for several decades I’ve preferred men ballet dancers over the women !
"You dont have to be a gay man to do ballet!" Absolutely not.... but.... lets not pretend that isn't like... 90% of it. lol

All gay
Actually no.

I really admire men who can do that on ice skates! I cannot imagine!
