Trumpet Solo | George Hogg
Here's a brief solo from some recording I was involved with for the Online Composition Academy from Purcell School. Due to lockdown restrictions we had to record the students' compositions remotely then they were all put together for the online concert. This was from a piece composed by Devon Packer (devonpacker.com). Hope you like it!

Lead Trumpet Solo | George Hogg

Here’s a clip of a solo I’ve just done for an upcoming project from the Sam Every Big Band (th-cam.com/channels/zenzpRpLHLtd-Pr5xKQ6qw.html). Please forgive the MIDI bass though! 😂 For more information or for online/remote recording enquiries please visit my website: www.georgehogg.com
Double D arpeggio on trumpet | George Hogg
มุมมอง 56K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Found this clip from when I'd just gotten my Bach 180L 25S (large bore, narrow bell) and I was seeing how connected it was through the registers. Feels nice and open and very resonant, I highly recommend giving one a blow if you see one come up for sale! Double C#: inappropriate trumpet 8va! George Hogg | Joe Stilgoe
มุมมอง 3K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Here’s a very brief snippet from a Christmas gig with Joe Stilgoe. He uploaded a highlights reel (check it out here th-cam.com/video/Pn5KG5UzqEY/w-d-xo.html) and I realised that it included the ending that I rather inappropriately put up an octave. Thought I'd share it with you, hope you like it! For more information or for online/remote recording enquiries please visit my website: www.georgeho...

Latin trumpet solos featuring George Hogg
มุมมอง 1.1K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Here are a couple of solos from some recent remote recording I did. It asked for a "high latin-style solo" so I tried to do just that. Two versions, one more melodic, one more chopsy! Recorded on a Neumann TLM170R through a Neve 1073 preamp plugin and a Universal Audio Apollo 8P interface. I was recently asked by Jeff Lardner and Mark Allaway of Gogo Tracks (gogotracks.co.uk) to record solos on a series of tracks in a wide range of styles. Some are quite short (8 bars or so) but I thought I’d make a compilation and share them on here anyway. They were all recorded on a Neumann TLM170R through a Universal Audio API 212L preamp plug-in. Patchwork Jazz Orchestra recently recorded and released a fantastic composition by Tom Smith called 'The Light That Shines' (th-cam.com/video/fytl4t1JCDU/w-d-xo.html) and they asked me to put couple of bits up an octave for fun... I had to video it anyway so thought I’d upload the raw footage. Hope you enjoy! For more information or for online/remote recording enquiries please visit my website:...

Guau que limpieza en esos arpegios.. bravo 👏🏼,, como estudias? Cómo preparas tu rutina de calentamiento maestro? Es excelente su técnica…! 👏🏼👏🏼 …
MY VOLUME WAS AT MAX
WHAT!!! is you secret
Beautiful range and control. What is that mouthpiece you're using? Looks like a mighty big rim.
Sonido motosierra. 😂
It would have been better if the second trumpet player played a high E at the same time.....
That is the 'optional 8va' of the 'optional 8va'
Greatttttt 😮
I hate TH-cam.
Your embouchure looks beyond perfect - you look like a robot but obviously, it’s amazing the result. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anybody with a more perfect embouchure. Who taught you to play this way originally?
car
Sound great. I studied with Roy Stevens in early 70's. When I got his method I had all the notes clear into the triples. I stopped playing when I turned 70 due to bottom teeth problems. You got it kid !
Hi man, I'm just beginning to medium can you explain to me a method or ROY Stevens' method to play the high notes?
Fantastic job, very clean, looks like you really have it down
I can take a double d too
How the heck do you get such a fat sound
Beautiful Hoggard x
Just the sheer control, thats amazing!
Whenever I want to show someone absolutely smoking on a live gig I show them this video, I love this video 😂
Probably Hoggs up all the lead parts. I also love how trumpet players call a concert D natural "E"!
Because it’s a Bb instrument duh
Probably because it’s an E on the trumpet, which is the instrument he’s playing, so he played an E
Yes sir! Love how you centered and created a good first sound.
This guy looks like an alternate universe version of my band director
Cheating
2 years later, I can now do this. W
Everyman loves some double d's
That's the most horn like horn I've ever heard
double Deez nuts
😮😃
This is so tasty
I am super jealous, good on you for practicing 40 hours a day
Nice petaminx
Nice 2 set violin reference
He practiced 80 hours a day
Hell yeah dude!!!!!
And that last petal tone was the icing on the cake 🍰!
I don’t play trumpet, so can someone tell me why it’s so hard to play?
Many people think that playing trumpet is simply blowing air through the horn and pressing down a valve to make a sound, but that's not case. There are only so many valve sequences you can press down before you have to repeat for a different note. To make a sound on the trumpet, you have to buzz your lips. Your bottom lip doesn't buzz however, just the top lip. Think about sound waves, and how the faster the sound wave, the higher a pitch. The more taut a string is pulled, the higher the pitch would be when plucked. It's the same concept here. So what makes this video so impressive is that George Hogg is controlling his air, the speed at which he buzzes his top lip, and the muscle strength it requires to go from a low pedal D to a double D above the staff without a break in the sound (break in the sound meaning he doesn't take in another break and doesn't remove his lips from the mouthpiece to set for that higher note. It is CRAZY stuff that takes years and years to master. This exercise alone is a fraction of what the trumpet is capable of, and more so what the trumpet PLAYER is capable of. Hope this helps :)
@@codyschexnaydre5456 Thank you for the info!
@@codyschexnaydre5456 I've been playing for 10 years and never knew that only the top lip buzzes
Thanks so much for posting my composition, Giant Leaves! You killed it!
Thanks Devon, great piece! I’ll link you in the description 👍🏼
@@GeorgeHogg Thanks! Here is my webpage as well: devonpacker.com/
Yep sure, done!
beast
I love how at the end you can hear a dude in the background go "wow"
how to play that high I’m so confusing because I have been playing trumpet for many years I’m grade 7 but I just cant play that high like high c something more higher pls I need suggestions thanks.
Sounds like you are doing fine and you are just where you belong. High notes are a good goal for high school.
You’re still way too young homie. Give it time
Not bad.
That sounded like a c arpeggio
C concert = D trumpet
It's a transposing instrument.
Weak
c'mon man what's the point in that
@@isaaclevitt9829 ah, don't worry, it's an in joke with me and george. We do a horn section together! Hooligan Horns if interested :)
@@tomdunnett9654 ooooh shoot sorry man haha, didn’t mean to be rude 👍🏻
@@isaaclevitt9829 no worries at all bro! I spose i was asking for it 😄
One of my favorite songs, I've listened to it hundreds of times. Well done!
Shortest clips of all time. Lol. They’re beauties though
Nice!
Jesus christ man
damn that was smooth
so clean!!
Triple e but dang
So… you’re saying it’s the E ABOVE triple C? No, it’s not. It is the E above double C… meaning it is “double E”. The note names change upon each successive F#. If he played a note a whole step higher than Double E, it would be Triple F#.
Clean
What mic do you record on?
Usually a Neumann TLM170R (which is what I used here) but I’ve got a few others if I need a different sound, and I normally use a Neumann KM54 for horn section stuff.
@@GeorgeHogg awesome thank you so much! You sound great
