Mining started hear in this site in 1701 and the last attempt was in 1938 when they were looking for tungsten. Pumping engine was a 60 inch built by Harvey’s of hayle in 1835 .ungraded to 70 inch in 1912. 22 inch whim engine and 32 inch stamps engine. It’s not often the 3 types of enginehouses survive. Interesting explore mate! The battery was impressive too. The chimney in Charlestown is for the clay dry, clay was taken down through the tunnels and loaded onto ships. Must of been a cold ride on the bike to Charlestown mark!🥶

Another one of my fav spots is Charlestown, also Carlyon Bay, that was well known for the entertainment centre ‘The Coliseum’ in the 80’s (sadly demolished now, no sigh left of it) and remember the ship wreck that was built on the beach for a film Dracula (1979)

Absolutely love Charlestown, we have holidayed here every year for the last 30 odd years. Such a historic place!! My great grandma was Cornish and I have always felt its pull. She came to Yorkshire when she fell in love at 18, such a love story ! Thank you for this video, I loved it , and a Happy New Year to you and your family x

Bit of a puzzle that one mate! With the area it covers may be some sort of training camp. Bet someone local will know what all about. Land army girls if possible lived in on the farms they were working so learned as they worked. Another section also did forestry work as well. Interesting👍

The second building looks to be for animals possibly. Pig sheds, but narrow down the centre for working horses that was still widely used during wartime.

Looking a bit pale on this video folks it's not the case it was the lighting

Very appropriate to be viewing this head frame going into a new year, time will tell. There was a tradition of decorating engine houses when they were put to work. When they were installing the 100 inch engine at great wheal vor 13 people dined in the open cylinder. Two brass band played when the engine was finely put to work on 30th august 1854 and a crowd of estimated 5 thousand looked on. May be we should revive this tradition!! Great video mate👍
