Lewes, DE on ICE!!
Come along as we explore Canalfront Park in Lewes, DE and experience the ice flow on the Lewes Canal. What a difference between last year on Jan 27th when it was near 50° and I was painting the Lightship Overfalls en plein air, and today when it’s 17° and everything is encased in ice and snow.

I was the first ever sign my artwork for ToysRUs, and appears on the cover, just inside the lower right corner of the star.

Oh I just found the painting from the latest video in the snow. Wow, you sure are a talented artist. Eric, these are lovely drawings. Must be very satisfying seeing your ideas become reality. Lovely collection. 👍🇳🇱🙋♀🥝
@@IamaDutch-Kiwi thank you so much! Are you part Dutch, and also from New Zealand? We’ve been to the Netherlands, Amsterdam, the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh and Frans Hals museums, Haarlem, and Volendam. We had the best time. Very inspiring!
@@grandpa_eric You sure did see a lot of our National pride and treasures. Although born in NL 🇳🇱 I had my formation as a child/adult in NZ. I also had my children there. You could say I am 50/50 - well that's how I see myself. I now regularly visit Down Under having returned to the European shores. Hence being a Dutch-Kiwi 🇳🇱🙋♀🥝
Hello there Eric, my name is Anita I often see your comments on Keith and Teri's channel. Thought it was time I popped over and said 'Hi'! It sure looks cold and frozen solid there. What a lovely art work. Hope the icy blast won't hang around too long. I enjoyed the walk - luckily from my warm spot in my Woman Cave. Have a great Sunday. 👌🇳🇱🙋♀🥝
@@IamaDutch-Kiwi hi Anita! Great to hear from you. Thank you for watching. We’re going out walking again today on the beach. It’s a bit warmer. No video though. Have a great day!
@@grandpa_eric Enjoy the walk. We have just walked too- no ice here but at 6 degrees it wasn't exactly tropical either 🤣🤣!
This cold weather has been crazy!! Beautiful view….but so cold!
@@RetiredLovingIt oh ya, bitter cold… makes me appreciate sitting around in the warm house preparing for coffee talk tomorrow!
We’re iced in! It was 0 degrees this morning as well
@@RetiredLovingIt Wally and I were slipping and sliding last night on slick refrozen icy roads. I almost fell 3 times. Wally lost his footing more than that. This morning I ‘pulled myself up by my bootstraps’ and trudged through deep snow around our yard til Wally took care of his business. The last thing an “elderly” 🤣 person wants to do is fall and break a hip-- then have the plow come along and push me into the drain ditch. Not a good visual. 😆 Thanks for watching!❄️☃️🌨️🙏
@ stay safe!!
Awesome 👏 work!

Wow 14 degrees windchill 9 😳🥶 it was 20 at our house this morning. Merry Christmas week! 🎄

What a beautiful area!
Yes, it is. Thank you for watching.
Looks like a nice event Eric. It’s beautiful there!
Absolutely, Keith & Terri! A hidden gem in lower slower Delaware. Retirees love it. Thank you for watching.👍
Wow! That is a beautiful place. Loved the dark moodiness of the sky and the color of the dark water! Great video.
A bit windy, I tried to mask that. Perhaps a mic with a ‘dead cat’ would help. It was mostly overcast with spots of sunlight-theatre lighting on the beach. We love going there.
Looks like a beautiful peaceful place!
Yes, a hidden treasure. Not literally lol 🤣 Dolphins, whales, seals, and lots of gulls are frequent here… along with Marine One, Coast Guard cutters and Homeland Security patrol boats. Joe frequents a beach nearby. Always enjoy the sand and surf, painting the view or not. Thanks for watching! 🎨👍
Beautiful

@@suewolfe8005 yeah, right? I think so. lol 🤣
Hi, I saw your comment on a Norman Rockwell video. You mentioned that you have some stories about him. I'm wondering if you would be willing to have a phone conversation and share a couple of stories?
Hey 👋 Michael- I didn’t know Norman Rockwell personally. I knew Frank Kilker, the art editor for the Saturday Evening Post and Look Magazine, to whom NR brought his ideas and final paintings. I lived across the street from Frank, in Stamford Connecticut, for a decade. Then stopped by to visit him often after I moved. As told to me by Frank in his home- Frank Kilker had 6 original Rockwells. Four in the attic, and two displayed hanging on his living room wall, with many other famous illustrator’s original work from back in the day- I.e., Harold Von Schmidt, Stevan Dohanos. Frank said Norman Rockwell was very concerned about the copy lines (for feature articles in the magazines) covering up his artwork, and especially his signature. If changes were needed to be made to the art, Norman Rockwell wanted to be notified and make the changes himself. Frank told me one time with a deadline looming, “We didn’t have the heart to ask him. We made the change ourselves.” At the end of the day, NR (obviously) found the change was made, and was livid. Another example of Norman Rockwell’s illustration/artistic acumen was when Frank Kilker showed me a particular part of a Rockwell illustration/portrait. At the time, I was 13, a freshman, and taking the Famous Artists School correspondence course. Frank pointed out the use of color by Norman Rockwell. He showed me how the portrait had a shadow side going down the center of the face with a high chroma burgundy red. I never thought such a bold use of color was possible. But because the VALUE was correct, it worked! But I found for Rockwell, it was more common than not. My education and career in illustration, art and design, appreciated Norman Rockwell as the fine artist he was. Other than that, Frank Kilker had also a portrait of President Eisenhower, (one of many) by Norman Rockwell, in the foyer of his home. I almost forgot about that one- the grin on Eisenhower, his ears. Perfect. You can imagine the effect, the inspiration all this had on my personal education and career choices. That’s it. Hope you enjoyed the real life stories. Thanks for asking. I enjoyed retelling my experiences.
Good drawing! I didn't know anyone could draw that well with a crayon. I'll have to try that.
@@suewolfe8005 thank you, Sue! Yep, with any medium, capturing what you see through observation and sensitivity. It all began while coloring early mornings with my grandson. Basic crayons, making shapes. It’s great! Thanks for watching.
Your neighborhood is very quiet in the morning. So peaceful looking. I have crape myrtle bushes, I think winter may be too cold here in KY for them to be trees.
Yes, it’s very quiet indeed, except for the honking of the geese. Rather that than cars honking! 😂
The ferry looks enjoyable to ride. I hear you can possibly spot some dolphins if you're lucky!
@@venturelyfe yes, that’s true. And we did!
Looks like fun!
Yes! It was. And we spent the day with family on vacation at Cape May… can’t show that though. The ferry ride was great!
Very pretty painting!
@@elliejellie22 thank you, Ellie!🇺🇸🎨🍻🧨💥🥁
Nice artwork!
Thank you, Keith & Terri! Need more coffee ☕️ 😁
We can only try to imitate what God does in His studio. Ha. But you did a really great job of it.
Thank you, Sue! Yes, true, as light and shadows move, colors change, his original creation… I’d rather paint outside than in my house, from photos… but some enjoy that. I like getting out en plein air, analyzing, abstracting, meeting folks with their dogs. A neighbor came out of his house and said “is this going to be an all day thing?” lol literally. If only I were faster, more decisive… it’s as much about the experience as it is creating a painting. Time flies out there! Thanks for watching!😁🍻
Another entertaining video! Like how you master values and color in your paintings. After watching your videos, I now want to get an American flag for the front of my house. lol.
Me too. I mean, we have an American flag but need a pole! 🇺🇸…by next Friday, flag day!!!
That boating looked very relaxing. Dogs and cats will eat grass to help with their digestion. Don't know if they should, but they do. lol
That is a great painting! You have a cool easel, too.
Haha! The easel is a bit much when in a rush! 😂
Hey Sue, ya this easel is sturdier in the wind. I like it. Thx for watching!
Nothing better than the beach at sunrise
Wow!! Keith & Terri! thank you for watching. Ya, this is what I do in retirement, I go get painting… and drawing with crayons… I try to keep it fun!
Another wonderful painting! Your videos are very entertaining!
Thank you for watching! And thanks for the compliment!
You took us on a scenic adventure today. That is a lovely beach town and with your comments, you could be the town's tour guide!
Hey 👋 Sue! Sounds like you enjoyed the tour. Thanks! Me, not so much. I’m back downtown at the bandshell at this very moment, by the canal again looking at boats across the way. exploring sights to paint another day. It’s a beautiful day! Thank you for watching, and your comment.👍😃🍻🚣🛥️🚢🛶⚓️
That turned out great . Your skilled use of values, colors and the viewpoint made for an eye catching painting.
Thank you, Sue!
Bob Ross showed that painting could be fun. I still remember his 'happy little clouds'. lol
I came for the paintings/drawings and stayed for Wally!
Ooh ya! Wally is the main magnet. Good boy Wally ❤️
Enjoyed seeing your sketches. Maybe the weather will cooperate soon, for a few days. ha! I think Wally is going to miss you when he goes home.
Wally loves me!! Like a watch dog. Eyes on all the time 😂
Very entertaining video! That was a great painting, you are very skilled. Hope they don't change the building too much and ruin its character.
Thank you! And thank you for watching!
Can't wait to see more of your paintings. Love that when you see an American flag, you note it and say " An American flag, God bless America".
Next Wednesday or Thursday looks to be a good day to go get painting. Ideal weather. And there is a historic building in Lewes that’s about to get a makeover. I’m going to try to capture the old look before it changes! Thank you for watching, Sue.
Hi Eric. How about Marine One hovering over the marsh?? Not! As always enjoying your talent - R
Thanks! Rob, that’s a great idea. Maybe... 🤔 I like to capture whatever enters the scene. Wildlife, people, kayaks, Marine One 😆- it flew over our house last week.
Great mix of reality and concept art. Makes me want to read the adventure book it’s going in.
It’s most likely getting framed and gifted to my son & family. Originally, he had asked for a painting of my grandson climbing on rocks alongside water. I took it a step beyond- with both his kids and Wally, their dog. All of the preliminary compositions were not meant as storyboards, rather an exploration in design for the painting. Glad you like the picture. Thank you!
Regardless of your intention to study light and shapes, your renderings tell stories in themselves. Your use of crayons for your composition study is art in itself. Please keep making more videos.
Oh! I just subscribed. Hoping to see more content. 😊
I love the rough artistry. Looks like pages in a mystery/adventure book. Very fun.
Thank you, Mity! This afternoon I finally got a chance to paint en plein air. That sketch of the ship and kayak/dog/grandkids is now an oil painting. Look for it tomorrow! Thank you for watching, and subscribing!
very nice, thanks for sharing.
Thank you. And, you’re welcome. Yesterday was a good day to get painting outside, yet schedule didn’t permit that. Maybe tomorrow. I want to turn my sketch of the red ship and kayak into a painting. That all begins en plein air.
I have no idea why this was recommended to me, but I really like it! Thank you for sharing your work, and the little stories behind it :)
