Sverrir Gudjonsson started his solo career as a singer at an early age, releasing two popular records as a boy soprano. He later studied and worked in London as a countertenor, specialising in early and contemporary music. Leading composers have written music for his voice, which he has premiered and recorded with various ensembles. His first solo CD “Epitaph” was Gramophone Magazine’s critic’s choice of the year in 2000. Through the years he has worked closely with documentary film director, Jacques Debs, in collaboration with Arte TV in France and Germany. The film, “Walking on Sound”, which shows the creative process between Gudjonsson and the legendary Japanese percussionist Stomu Yamash’ta, was shot in Iceland, Japan and France and premiered in Paris in 2009. In 2020, he released his double vinyl album, “Twilight Songs”, where he performs music by various Icelandic composers, written especially for his countertenor voice.
