      @@airplanemechanic5561 this blade is not for sale however, one of the great things about the Cub is parts and implements are plentiful, inexpensive and readily available. A Cub 54 grader/leveling blade in good shape can typically be picked up for between $250-$300. You will need to fabricate the cylinder mounting brackets and install the cylinder, bypass block and directional valve yourself.

    I couldn’t have said it any better I have a couple of 8N Ford tractors and the ones I want to restore to original condition stay with the 6 Volt positive ground the ones I use as a work horse have an alternator and 12 volt system just because I use them on my 6 foot v-type snowblower and some winters it only gets up to-32 Celsius during the day and-40 at night so I like the stronger cranking power for that reason but I do have a pencil heater and a lower radiator hose heater and a magnetic heater on the oil pan because they sit outside and even then the starting can be hard so if worse comes to worse I will tarp the whole tractor and use the tiger torch and I am very careful about condensation because it can destroy the engine! But your Cub is beautiful the tin is so shiny and straight I would love to find one that’s got the hydraulic like yours very nice restoration 😀🇨🇦

    • @rickyoung360

      It's been a long time since I purchased that valve but if I recall, it was purchased from the Surplus Center online. There are many sources for hydraulic components so I'd suggest taking some time and doing some comparison shopping. Remember, the valve needs a pressure relief that can be adjusted down to around 1500 psi. Thanks for watching and good luck with your project.

      The hydraulic hoses on my setup are each in the 50" range with one about 8"-10" longer than the other. Exact lengths on my setup isn't important they will be slightly different than what you may need if you choose to do the same modification to your blade. My measurements though will give you a rough idea of the amount of hose needed.

    • @rickyoung360
      @rickyoung360 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gary, thank you very much for the kind words. This Cub is a 1953 that I purchased as a non-running "fence row special". I went through everything on it rebuilding or repairing as I went. That was about 15 years ago and the tractor has never let me down. Even in -20 degree weather it will start and run like a champ. It still has it's original 6 volt system which is very robust and works flawlessly. For pushing snow here in Michigan, I have the blade mounted in the front of the tractor. That's one thing nice about the design of the Cubs 54A Grader and Leveling Blade, it can be mid mounted for grading work or front mounted for snow plowing. You are correct, this tractor is a pleasure to run and I look forward to using it daily. Thanks for watching!! • @rickyoung360

    Nice setup on the old cub, ignorance showing up here, how do you lift and lower the blade, as you don't want it down all the time

    • @rickyoung360
      @rickyoung360 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching this video and your great question. The addition of the bypass block does not hinder the use of the original Touch Control unit in any way, it just diverts the flow of the hydraulic fluid through the auxiliary valve first before it enters the Touch Control unit. The Touch Control operates just the same as it did prior to adding the bypass block and the blade is lifted or lowered using the Touch Control lever mounted on the steering column. The only interference in the operation of the Touch Control is that you cannot operate the Touch Control AND the auxiliary valve at the same time. When you shift the auxiliary valve the hydraulic flow is diverted to the power angle cylinder instead of the Touch Control unit. As soon as you release the auxiliary valve, it shifts back to the neutral position and flow is restored to the Touch Control unit. I hope I made myself clear.

      The Farmall Cub is an excellent old tractor. They are cheap to buy, parts are cheap and easily found but most Cubs out there have been used and somewhat neglected. If you are mechanically inclined and don't mind doing some work to it, these things will run forever. I suggest you buy the best one you can, fix everything that you can find wrong with it before you use it and get all of that out of the way. I purchased mine for $600 as a non-runner and rebuilt the motor and went through the whole tractor, front to back and fixed everything I could find. I've probably got $2500 into it and have never had an issue with it. There's not much I could buy for $2500 that would even come close to what this little tractor does for me.

      @rickyoung360 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jdclay1547 The oil pump (assuming you're taking about the engine oil pump) is a very simple unit and I don't recall ever hearing of one going bad. One thing to be aware of is the oil pump is located behind the flywheel not down in the oil pan so if a tractor sits for a long time, it can loose it's prime. Anytime you pick up an old Cub that hasn't run for a long time, it's always best to prime the oil pump prior to trying to start the tractor. Everything is available for a Cub either new or used with a lot of parts being reproduced. TM Tractor www.tmtractor.com/ , Hamilton Bob's www.hamiltonbobscubs.com/ or JP Tractor Savage jptractorsalvage.com/ is a good source for Cub Parts.
