Hi, from our perspective, it is because the ABRSM online exam is named 'performance grade' which means only the performance is evaluated, hence candidates only perform pieces. It is distinctly different from the physical exam, named as 'practical exam'. The performance grade is not so much an adaption of the entire exam structure into online format, but rather, a brand new type of exam only carried out in online format. For Trinity, the online exam is sort of an adaption of the existing exam structure, minus the supporting tests. They also noticed that some candidates/teachers might still prefer to have scales in online exam, and since ABRSM does not offer that, Trinity fill in this gap right away. Later on, Trinity offers even greater flexibility by allowing candidates to select technical work pathway (pieces+technical work) or performance pathway (pieces only) in the online exams. Since we do not represent the examination boards, these are just our opinions for your reference. @@nikkielizabeth9958 hi, yes you can enrol the exam on your own without going through institute. But, you must enrol for the exam through your local Trinity representative in India. It is a branch of Trinity in your country, so I presume it will not have additional costs. The local representative will handle your application, send the submission link and certificate. You do not need to be in an institute to take Trinity exam. No need to go through institute. Hi, it would very much depends on the option that you went for. For instance, in option 1- Informing your audience: you may write on your observation if the programme successfully convey your message to the audience and elaborate about what that message/vision of your programme, observation about audience's feelings after listening the whole programme, and what would you change in the future to better deliver the message. In option 2 - detailed programme analysis: after conducting the research, what are the new information or knowledge acquired during the process, how did it help your performance and specifically on which aspect of the music (techniques, musicality, etc) and how would it help your future performances. In option 3 - programming your performance: what kind of thought process went into designing the programme, and what is the factor that makes you finalise with the decision of the way the programme is. (chronological order? the emotions: heavy-light etc?) how did the programme affected your performance (in terms of style? technical difficulty? adjusting mindset/emotions?) and how well-planned was the programme in your opinion. In option 4 - preparation of performance: elaborate on beginning, middle and final stage of your preparation, how your thoughts changed based on feedback and research. What were some new ideas gained? Who inspired you to change your approach? (Certain musicians recordings? Teacher's feedback? etc) How well you handled the program and how you thought the performance went. Hope it helps, cheers!

@@nurhannah5909 hi the ABRSM exam portal has since been updated, so some of the features look different from what’s in the video. For your case, select “first time booking for this candidate” and enter your information. For “presented by” part, yes right now they make it mandatory, you could fill in your own name (if self-taught) or your teacher or school.

Hi, these are the details step for your reference, the booking page has amended slightly from when the video was made. 1. Log in to your account (applicant account) 2. Click 'public venue & digital exam' box, on the left side of the page 3. Click 'Digital Performance Grade' and select the relevant grade for your daughter 4. 2 options is shown: I have booked for this candidate before (the candidate's details are in the system, search using national ID) and First time booking (details are not yet in the system). For your case, select first time booking since it is the first exam for your daughter. 5. Key in national ID and date of birth, click 'find candidate' 6. Fill in your daughter's information (candidate's information) 7. Proceed to submit and pay. 8. You can upload exam video immediately or within 28 days from exam booking. 9. For next booking, by searching your daughter's national ID, the information will already be in the system. No need to type in manually as you do right now. I watched a video writing parent’s information . Should I write my daugters information ( She is 8 ) or my( parent) information? I am not sure about this part. The account must be set up in the candidate's name or parent’s ? Also in the presented by part should I write her teacher’s name or leave it empty?

You might be referring to 00:25 part of the video, that is to create applicant account. You should fill in your details (applicant, only for those above 18 only, hence your daughter cannot be the applicant). Applicant - above 18, can be teacher/parent/guardian Candidate - student taking the exam After you have created the account, log in, and follow the steps listed in above comments. From there on you only fill in your daughter's particulars (candidate's information). For the presented by section, it is up to you. It can be teacher's name, music school, or you can leave it empty as well. You might be asked to fill in candidate's email address to create candidate's account, which is not necessary for your case. You can upload the exam video and receive exam result through applicant account, no need for a separate candidate account for your daughter. It is useful when candidate and applicant (teacher, for instance) don't see each other frequently, and it might be easier for candidate to upload exam video by themselves through candidate account. Result is still received by applicant first, then option to share with candidate through candidate account. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Balanced programme: the 2 pieces are of contrasting style & period, and contains various keys, moods and tempi (speed) 3. Hi, thanks for your comment! One thing to note is that ABRSM and Trinity are examination board that provides evaluation on how well you master the musical instruments of your choice. They are not a pedagogy course or method. We plan to make a video to explain this further. Furthermore, both ABRSM & Trinity offers music theory as a separate subject for exam (not combined with piano or any other instruments). It is common that music students take music theory lesson & exams on top of their chosen instruments. So in short, we cannot say which board offers more music theory - it is a subject on its own. In fact, grade 1-5 music theory is considered fundamental, and not too different across different boards or system. There are also plenty of resources out there to learn music theory, the only difference is examination board selects a certain range of topics and expose to students at different levels as a progressive step, to avoid information overload. It also depends which region you're from. In Malaysia where we are based, it is easier to obtain music theory workbooks and materials based on ABRSM syllabus & exam. Hence, it's more popular to take ABRSM music theory in Malaysia due to that reason. Please reply below if you have further questions, we will try our best to assist! Cheers!

@@accentontheoff actually, the course is designed by your teacher or any method that they choose. ABRSM or Trinity only designs the evaluation system (exam), and the syllabus that determines if the student qualifies for certain level. The piano exam does not include theory assessment, it is available as a separate entity. In the lesson, exam can be a goal to work on, however the contents of lesson is very much determined by teacher. For myself, I like to incorporate as much of theory in the piano lesson as it is easier to understand how the theory part is executed in an actual piece of music.

Since the diploma has just launched in April, there is limited information on unit 2 performance in context, aside from those already released by ABRSM which we have summarised in the video. You may refer to the programme notes writing guidance from the previous diploma, to give you a brief idea: pianoandguitarlesson.wordpress.com/2024/04/27/complete-guide-to-lrsm/ Perhaps you may evaluate according to the 2000 word count range, and the number of pieces in your programme. For instance, you have 5 pieces in the programme, so each piece around 400 word count. From there, try making drafts and observe word count, that should give you a clearer picture on the length & depth of your research. If I am not mistaken, there was a seminar hosted by ABRSM Asia on the new LRSM & FRSM a while back. However, we did not manage to attend, hence unsure if there is any internal material.
