An earlier attempt at composing this track by Kondo. I don't know much about it, I think we called it "Spirit Home" back then though. I still don't have much time, but I managed to find this, hope you enjoy it. I may look for something at the weekend, I'll try checking more VHS tapes since those tracks are probably boring already, heh.

An earlier version of the water theme. This version of the theme was used in the B-Roll builds, but it was changed right before the Spaceworld '95 demo (or Shoshinkai as it's also called). Old footage I dug up today. It seems like a pre b-roll build with a completely different, unfinished castle inside design. I actually remember playing this build, it may even be me playing on this tape. This build pretty much had no music so it's kind of uncanny.

Scrapped Vanish Cap Theme

Another track I found on an audio cassette. It was Kondo's arrangement of the Starman theme from Super Mario World 2 - Yoshi's Island, and a rearrangement of the Wing Cap theme - it just used different instruments (and was a bit longer). This track almost made its way to the final release but we need to take it out for memory reasons.

A lost commercial I found on a VHS tape. I can't remember how did it get lost, or maybe scrapped, but I think it was made about 1,5 months before the release of Super Mario 64. This is a better copy of this commercial, found on my archival VHS tape. The quality still isn't perfect, but believe me, the original upload had MUCH worse distortions. Another tape I found, this time it had a scrapped logo intro, we wanted it to look like the one from promo arts later on in the development, we tried our best to optimize it but it just kept crashing (this build had a crash handler visible). 9 times out of 10 it'd be only for the vanish cap theme, considering the wing cap theme is a requirement in the game, otherwise it wouldn't be mario 64

it's interesting how in the beta, they went for the more "foot forward" walk closest to Mario World but then later ended up having him lean into his motions a bit more. honestly adds to the flow of his movement.

i love this, only thing that ruins it for me is that it sounds very muffled and staticy here
honestly this fits best in SM64DS, i mean the long high-pitched hum is normal in that game, and Luigi would be little more unique!
64DS got unique themes for the new powerups and for Hoot the Owl, so a new Vanish Cap theme would've been great
