Bonsai's forever
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 27 ก.ย. 2007
I started getting serious about bonsai around 13 years ago.
I have always been into plants and was interested in bonsai since I was a kid. My first bonsai was 3 cuttings from a ficus that my great grandmother had as a house plant.
My channel is safe for all ages. I love creating living art in bonsai, I like to think there is many ways to make a quality bonsai, the traditional ways and nontraditional.

Thank you, I really enjoy your video. What area do you live on? I am only asking because of the weather and I know that's an important part on giving tree maintenance at the right time of the year. I am very new to bonsai but I have an awesome Crape that I want to move to a bonsai pot. Thanks again!!
I love the branch structure of this tree.
Thanks It's been a long road but it's coming along.
Nice Jay 👊👊

I will do that soon I think I only lost one out of nearly 20.
Excellent Jay and that's a great looking juniper and a nice bit of trimming. Oh, I'm liking the intro too bud 😊

Thanks I love this tree

What is the right time to prune the roots and change the pot?
very cool, in my back yard, we have 8 blue spruces, but 3 blue spruces already dry, how to care?
how to care this blue spruce?
Very cool
After watching your video further I bet the picture plant will do well with the Florida bugs 😎
It is doing well with the Florida heat and humidity.
J that’s an interesting picture plant. Don’t think I have ever seen one
It's the first on I have seen in a plant store
Hey J Nice job on your trees.
Thank you
Wow thats a lovely tree, gav is such a decent chap 👍 ill send your thing next friday 👍👍
Hey thanks Dan thanks for watching
Hello Jay! Gavin sent me. 👍
Awesome Gavin is awesome thanks for joking me
Excellent update Jay and I'm glad the little box of goodies made it safe and sound. Best of luck with all of those seeds. Oh and the Italian Cypress are funny seeds. I tried stratifying some last Autumn but they struggled to germinate in the spring. So I sowed more in the spring and they've germinated well. So I don't think they need a dormant period. Plus being native to Italy I would imagine that they can tolerate high heat. I liking Matt's root rake/ chopstick combo a lot 👍
Thanks Gavin I will go ahead and sow some seeds then. I really like the root hook from Matt.
Great video Jay mate Gavin is awesome 💪💪 Good luck with that tree mate 👊👊
Thanks Andy. I appreciate you brother.
Great video better camera quality would help though.
Yes. Please advise age of your trees. It will help me with buying them.
I am a beginner to this hobby. My tree is 1 year old. Very fragile. I am hoping I don't kill it. Thank you and I am looking forward to your lessons. Ann Marie.
NEVER use miracle grow on carnivorous plants!!!!!!!! its full of minerals that they added and minerals in substrate will KILL YOUR PLANT!!! only use reverse osmosis or demineralised water or rain water to water them to water them and with enough light and humidity, your supposed to have a pitcher per leaf and it will keep most of them, oldest one die, but ventrata keep them for long if they are in the right conditions, this plant should have at least 10 pitchers in shape if it was in the right condition, saddy, stores dont keep them in the right conditions, and why you should have change the hole substrate by dipping it in water as they are often water with water that still have plenty of minerals so the substrate is often contaminated. im not a nobody that speak to look smart, i have over 50 nepenthes high land and low land, yours is an easy one to grow and good for a beginer, they can grow in a bigger temperature and humidity range than harder one like hamata or bicalcarata as an example... miracle grow peat moss has fertiliser added and is REALLY BAD for nepenthes! get rid of it and rinse it well if you want to keep your ventrata. edit, i didnt finished the vdo before commenting, i didnt see you used only peat, no perlite, pure peat will rot your roots, you need at least 50%perlite 50% peat in your mix, i personnally use 30% peat, 30% perlite, 30% coco chip and 10% sphagnum moss but it need to water more often as it dont keep the water... edit#2 NEVER USE TAP WATER!!! and ALWAYS hydrate peat BEFORE potting it as when dry, peat is hydrophobic and can keep dry spots for WEEKS! just make your mix and add water and mix it in squishing is so the water get in it and hydrate it everywere, then its ready to pot. i gaved you the basic, but you really should watch vdos on how to take care of it as you made almost every single mistake you should never do to carnivorous plants! that mean that you know nothing about them, they are very pretty and fascinating plants, not hard to make them thrive, but you have to know what you are doiing if you dont want to kill them as they are easy to kill if you do something you shouldnt, and last thing, carnivorous plants are pure drug! one you tryed them, you cant stop buying them! lol! spent about 10k on them last year...lol!
Thank you so much for all the information. The one I rooted is doing very well it has two new leaves.
@@bonsaisforever yeah, its not sulfuric acid, its not instentanious death, but if you dont change substrate and continue to water it with momerals, it will have root poisoning and eventually die, but heck what do i know, i only have more than 2000 carnivorous plants from simple droseras to cephalotus...but dont worry, its only a ventrata, the most commond of the nepenthes, so not a big loss when it die, its not like if it was a a veitchii candy dream that id worth 5k$...lol!!! Good luck with your futur dead plant...
Awesome video, and beautiful bonsai! Also a plant enthusiast here
Those big seed pods are actually seeds from a Gymnocladus dioicus (Kentucky coffee tree) fantastic desert tree. Very similar to a Honey Locust as both are a part of the pea family
Hi! I noticed you used MiracleGro for your Nepenthes, BUT THAT IS DEADLY TO THE PLANT!!! They grow in low nutrient substrates!!! MiracleGro IS NOT for carnivorous plants!!! Another thing, make sure that the water you're using is either rainwater, distilled, or reverse osmosis to prevent mineral buildup. I made these mistakes too with my first carnivorous plants but luckily I got them out in time and replaced it with a better substrate, hopefully you can do the same!!! 🙏
Great video Jay mate love the orchids you got loads of stuff mate so cool 👊👊
Thanks Andy I love plants
Excellent bro and best of luck with these. Funny you should do a video of this as I have just picked up some Carnivorous plants too. From what I know, they grow best in a 50/50 mix of Peat and Perlite. Some say you can also use CoCo peat, but then again so advise against it. And they can only be watered with rain water or distilled water. Don't use tap water as this contains minerals which the plant doesn't need.
Loads of great information. Sphagnum moss and acadama are also a good substitute.
They grow very large my one is easily 20ft tall
i think its a sound reasoning Jay. Dumping the auxin is the way to go. I think i have heard that for every meter of growth you get close to 1mm of thickness...so more leaves and growth can only help that. i love that size of soil ( it makes up the main body of my soil) ive always wondered...are they related to camelia's? can you make tea out of them?.....caffeine !!!🤪💪💚
Thank you for watching. I mostly use the 1/4 soil, it seems to do well with the size of trees I have. I'm not sure if they are related. I have not tried to make tea but I have heard you can.
Looks amazing, man. Thats a beautiful tree.
Just went in the woods and got my first Eastern Red cedar. Do you remove the tops for a thicker trunk?
I love the look of that tree. I find that my repots do pretty well in the Autumn. I've tended to stick with that now so i can spread the workload with all my other trees. Great stuff :)
Cheer up brother, always work and wish you success 👍👍
Cotinus coggygria 'Royal Purple' i found one last week. older bonsai are sow awesome. love this species.
Great video Jay!! The tree is looking awesome.

hey thanks Andy, I hope that helps explain wiring a bit the more i wire the better i get.
@@bonsaisforever yeah Jay mate was helpful fella thanks 🙏
Excellent video Jay and that's a great looking cedar. Looks brilliant in its new pot. And wow Jay, spring for us has only just begun after weeks of rain and your walking barefoot around the garden, haha. Also who's your helper near the end of the video doing the camera work?
spring is kinda fast here I think it was in the high 80s that day. my helper is my Neese my younger sisters youngest.
