What is Skyflat?
To create this world, I started with the Classic Flat preset in 1.17, then set the bottom 3 layers to air and replaced the grass layer with sand.
After the first block update, the sand started falling. This left villages (and any other structures that generated) in the Void, not unlike Skyblock.
Thankfully I spawned in a village before the sand fell, then I had to try to survive.
The gameplay from then on was similar to Skyblock, except I had a village already!
I've updated the world to 1.19 since, and this has generated Mineshafts, Ruined Portals and Pillager Outposts in chunks that were still unloaded when I updated.
In 2023, I moved the world to a server and let some friends join me in exploring the world more during streams. After we killed the Enderdragon, I had reached a year in the world, so I updated to 1.20.1, invited a few more players and left the server running 24x7 on New Year's Ever 2023.
In the year since then, the Skyflat SMP has become a gloriously eclectic and chaotic world, and we're having a blast playing on it!
We've been missing out on Trial Chambers, so I've culled chunks in the last backup of the 1.20.1 world, and updated it to 1.21.1 bring it up to speed with modern Minecraft.
1.21.4 server-side mods aren't quite there yet, but I'll continue to upgrade Skyflat when they are!
