    Thanks for your video! I'll check out the others. Great Job. We live in Northern In Calif. Bought 9.9 acres w/a MAJOR fixer upper cabin in Camptonville just a mile off Hwy 49. Off_gird but it has trash service, a phone line and endless water from a spring. 15 min to town- North San Juan. Free spring water means we'll build a pond to stock w/ bass for our future 4 ducks and 20+ hens. Hopefully No Trespassing Signs will ward the county off. We are remodeling ourselves without permits. $1200 a yr/$100 a month prop tax. Within 15 min is an excellent health food store called Mother Truckers, church, active community center with a weekly $10 donation organic meal, gas station/mart, library, & nursery/feed store. Our DIY Solar power for the car & bikes and to power our home half the year. We have the materials yet need to build a greenhouse to grow food. Tons of maple trees to make homemade maple syrup (only have to cook it which is free outside). I work two days a week and he works seasonally so we keep our reportable income low enough in case of any medical emergency. We pay for any medical but anything expensive like an emergency. Medicaid-Medi-cal can be used to back pay up to 3 months which is great. Sorta like having insurance you never signed up for. This area has a good amount of volunteer opportunities too and you can set up shop at the park for just a $20 fee or 10% of your sales. Community Center provides a weekly organic meal so this helps fund it- $10 requested donation. Since it's not a farmers market, no red tape to incur to sell your Maple Syrup, Free Range Eggs, etc. I like having the opportunity to trade too.

      That would be difficult for sure. But you still can grow some smaller crops like herbs.

    Where do I homestead in California?

    • @InformalFarmer
      @InformalFarmer 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      California is abundant in places to homestead. I would start by looking at areas with a climate that you enjoy. You can make a homestead work anywhere in California, just as you can make it work anywhere in the US.

      @@InformalFarmerIs there a specific area of California that most homesteaders head to? I want an area that doesn't have a lot of laws/rules telling me what I can and can't do on my land. I'd also like to have some pine trees and be able to shoot (maybe a shooting range) without bothering anyone.
