400k in 5.3% high yield, 400k in index annuity with zero downside, 400k in bond funds, the rest of 2.5 million in stocks and ETF. Pretty well set to retire in 10 years. BTW, have two pensions too with a paid off home.

I remember when my dad retired, he started spending 20+ hours a week trying to analyze his budget, his investments, social security, minimize taxes, and ramping up his hobbies to 11. I also still saw him online past midnight on shared platforms and he is 70+. He also tripled how much he spent youtube and playing video games and kind of stopped interacting with people outside of my mom. When I call him, he said he was busier than he worked, which seems very wrong. When I visited him last Christmas, I verified all of this was true! He was spending 5+ hours in Excel a day and he is not even working. How do I help him or try avoid this trap?

Yes and if you have 7 figures in pre tax savings you might want to figure how to get some of that out before RMD age at a reasonable tax rate. Having a SS check makes that harder to do! Even worse if you live an an income tax state.

It's a gamble. Take it at 62 and live beyond 80 you lose. Take it at 70 and live beyond 80 you win. Now you also need to play it out a bit further. If you are a healthy 80 yr old you win. If your sick... Meh who cares

My strategy is to contribute to both my 401k and Roth401k. The majority is going to Roth but I increase my pre-tax savings once my federal tax rate gets to 22%. I know it’s just the marginal amount but getting taxed on the income from 44-95k does make a difference.

Don’t most people end up needing significantly less income in retirement? If I make $100k, spend $30k on taxes, and save $20k towards retirement, then I only need post-tax income in retirement of $50k to maintain my lifestyle.

55 year old. I make 52K/year and I would like to max out my Roth 401k at $23K and use my brokerage account money to make up the $23K. Is that a good idea to try to max out my Roth 401K and use brokerage account funds to make up the difference? Tax implications? I also max out my seperate Roth 401K at $7500. Thanks
