The History of Minecraft Speedrunning

*IMPORTANT NOTES:*
- One of the prominent runners in this video has been involved in cases of SA. In order to be respectful to the victim, true to the story, and after talking to several speedrunners within the community- I have chosen to give them a fake name though still include them in the video. Even if you know who they are,- *please* don’t flood the comments with “oh but that’s x!!!”,- tyvm!
- Certain shots in this video are recreations, namely RealBenex’s first run, certain replay (cinematic) shots throughout the video, and some evidence for cheating. I’ve recreated this footage either because the original is about 2 pixels, or because it’s unclear/the speedrunner is so incredibly good at spotting a structure that it’s on screen for a single frame. However, all recreations are as close to the real thing as possible.

- Intro animation by x.com/MasmailMC and x.com/claucefx in Blender.
- Edited in Davinci Resolve by me.. took over 1,500 hours and around 6 months..
- Shaders used are Complimentary Reimagined and Rethinking Voxels. If you see very sharp shadows in a shot, that’s voxels, otherwise it’s comp.
- Used Texture Pack is either Default Minecraft, Barebones or Looshy 1.21.
- Most songs are from Epidemic, some are from OSTs like Genshin or Undertale.

this video is way too overly dramatized and is just not really informative, almost no discussions of evolving strats or the community, and I hate when you cut between the actual run and a recreation or just don't even show the actual run
I wanna give my thoughts here. Video was really well made, I enjoyed almost every aspect about it however I just don’t like texture packs and shit. To me it makes the game look NOT LIKE THE GAME. And it just isn’t appealing to me. So yeah 8.5/10
yea texturepacks were incredibly inconsistent in this video, in the future i'll probably just use the vanilla pack, thank you for the advice :D
one thing that is annoying me a little bit is that in some parts i feel like you could've cut them. it feels like you're amping the drama for every single instance, and I can't take it seriously

there's a lot of runs, esp runs that weren't wr but interesting in some way, that I just decided not to include because it would make the video 5 hours, speedrunning is just too big of a niche..

Useful things Don't get SkyHanni, that sucks and might fuck with you Tutorial starts at 6:33, the things before is just some random babbling, then you back to 4:44 to how to use it You only need more than 2 plots if you're lazy to swap lanes or don't have a maxxed crop plot, with 2 plots all your crops with be grown by the time you loop 1 Plot with your crop maxxed out with have 90-95% of your crops grown by the time you loop, not recommended, but if you don't want to build a lot or just want gold medals and don't want to tryhard, then 1 plot is plenty
Who is "Maro" 13:53? I remember all world record holders of RSG 1.16+ but I don't recall that name at all. Am I forgetting a world record?

I would also mencionate the run when skycrab1 almost beats the wr entering the portal room at 5:30 with 11 eyes but the portal had 0
unfortunately there is a bunch of stuff i had to leave out because this video would have been abt 10 hours, but yea you're right

One run that you should’ve went over was one of dimeax’ world records where he uses a diamond pick and a completable ruined portal to exit the nether, placing him 100 blocks away from the stronghold. I think this was the 17 minute run.
Korbanoes’ 15:12 was accused of being faked by dream because the file containing the run said it had been made a couple hours before the run actually happened, as when he finished the run he went to speedrunner’s twitch chats claiming he had the world record. Basically Dream & Korbanoes both lived in the same state in America so they had the same Timezone, so when dream looked at the file’s info, he accused the run of being fake due to it showing a creation time a few hours earlier. But the files creation time is based on the time in California. So when dream saw it, it showed the creation time in California.
