Mulitboard Neo Multiboard Frustration
Yeah... those ender 3s are a lot of work. I swapped to the A1 after pulling my hair out for a year with my ender 3. World of difference. They might still be on sale too if you're looking for a 3rd printer. Ans to anyone not looking to drill all those holes ( like in an apartment) I found command strip wall mounts over on Thangs for the multiboard
How often are you opening the lid? As I understand it you have to open it regularly to let the hot moist air out and the colder dryer air in. The same as you do to reduce moisture in your home by opening the windows for 5 minutes a day. Otherwise you've just got a filament sauna.
Interesting. I've not heard that or read that in directions
I just got a p1s and im new to 3d printing and i made about 9 tiles 9x9 and all came out beautiful. No issues Straight from my phone without using my pc
Those Bambu printers are nice, but you got to work with what you got sometimes. Good luck with the printing.
This is the 2nd vid I've watched in your series Doug and I've already learnt so much about what it means to practically take on this journey (esp someone completely green to 3d printing). Sounds like a good project to learn on. I appreciate the 'realness' which is refreshing from other youtubers with the 'ra ra multiboard is great'. Thanks for sharing the journey.
Glad to help. It is definitely a journey that is full of ups and downs and frustration. Your printer will definitely make that journey harder or easier depending on which model it is. I do like my multiboard and I am still doing more with it, but it is darn confusing at times. Good luck!
@@dougdoesstuff24 Thanks. I have a ender 3 v3 SE which was an impulse christmas sale buy so it'll be interesting to see how similar it'll be to the 2 Enders you used. I feel I'll be in the market for a newer model soon enough ;-)
Thanks for sharing. JUst what I'm looking for as I embark on the 3D printing adventure.
Good luck!
Thank you sir! I've been trying to figure out who to hang things after printing the multiboards, the original creator didn't do a great job showing what people can actually do with it after it's mounted on the wall.
Yeah, I do wish there were better guides than what is out there. It is great you can SO much..... But give me more direction!
HI! You were having this issue even with the MRiscoC firmware? Like someone said below, try to increase the bed temp. For PLA filaments, I use 80*C for the initial layer and then 70*C for the rest of the print. Every time I print, (after the printer has been off or cold for a while) I'd warm up the bed to 80*C, tram my corners within .01 difference, then conduct an auto mesh, check the Z offset. I'm still using the stock glass top, I wipe it clean with isopropyl alcohol when I'm printing PLA and use hairspray when I'm printing ASA. I had a PEI sheet, but ASA would lift it off the magnet even though I have an enclosure, so I stayed with the glass top and never had curling issues again. Goodluck!
thank you!
Having the same issue. Did you figure it out?
I actually gave up and went back to my glass bed. It's been great ever since.
For what it's worth, I upgraded my ender 3 with the microswiss NG Revo direct drive extruder, and that was actually a solid move. No stringing, have to deal with slightly low temp readings and adjust accordingly, but that part of the printer has been wonderful. Only note is that swapping Revo nozzles is not always as easy as advertised, and I've definitely ruined a nozzle (or two) trying to force them. I've since abandoned it when the bambu P1S got a solid discount recently and I finally bit the bullet, and... hate to say it, but it's wildly faster at everything, and I've had basically no print failures. I am definitely wary of a more locked-down platform, but so far they're doing everything right, and these are ubiquitous enough that, were they to try anything, I'm sure people would jailbreak them instantly. I do want to go back and upgrade my Ender 3 with a nice PEI sheet, give it a once-over, maybe get it printing again, but right now I've just got so much printing done I'm actually LOOKING for projects. If I go through with printing multiboards that'd be a good excuse, but honestly, I can probably do stacked printing on the P1S at... 6x faster than my Ender could do, so I doubt it's worth the trouble.
the issues youre having remind me of when i was trying to print with filament that needed to be dehydrated. threw it in the air fryer for 4 hours at 130F and was good to go
Your nozzel is too close. I have also had this issue.
Thanks for the advice, I'll have to try it again
Ware do you get your files
All multiboard is on thangs.com
My board is dead :( I really feel like moving on.
I hear you, but the incremental updating is more wallet friendly than the one big chunk
Sounds like the lamination in the transformers are loose.
Definitely something going on. I think this was my first attempt ever at fixing one. I should go back and see what I can do about that one
they have that in orca slicer
would you happen to know the part number for the gasket that goes between the transmission and the differential? I believe you mentioned it before you started taking it apart but didn't hear anything else about it. Thanks
hey there. that tractor is long gone from me, but it looks like the part number in the video is m45399 (if you google it is the hydro gasket).
where's day two and three videos?
newver mind
Hey Doug, been watching your progress. Where did you find the 90° Corner mount snap?
Honestly, as with most of multiboard parts, I stumbled randomly on it when I was down a rabbit hole of clicking "you might also like". Let me see if I can find it, if not I'll find a way to get you the STL as I have it saved
@timothystagg4707 It took some digging and searching through my history files, but I found it! www.printables.com/model/744049-updated-multiboard-corner-connectors-part-a-45deg/files
Doug is doing something! Interesting recommendation from YT as I also just got a new hot end and probably need to do this
You definitely need to do this. Really helped my prints
Testing mine now. I have 170 on one side and 150 on the other. Going to try seafoam, fill the cylinders and let sit for 48 hrs, clean out and run it hard for a while, then re-test. I’ll post what happens for entertainment.
What are you hoping the seafoam does? I need to retest after a season of running
@ I have seen others in cars using it, or Berryman to do a piston soak and free up the rings. Some have seen oil consumption drop drastically, and compression come up some.
@@jd1029 interesting. I am going to have to look into that if I still have low compression. I don't consume oil at all, so my low compression has to be from somewhere.
@@dougdoesstuff24 I just found Valvoline Restore and Protect oil, may try that out. Seems like many have seen good results
I want one, how can I get it???
You have to look around for one, they don't make the Craftsman anymore. I do think there is another brand that looks the same and probably fits
Husqvarna makes one!
There are screw in spacers for the small peg holes. I use them in the middle of 8x8 panels so that the panels won’t flex too much to the wall when inserting something. Only downside is that the pegholes are occupied.
Good to know. Adds to my frustration about the lack of a catalogue though
Looks great! I've had so much fun filling mine up -- and even put up a couple of smaller ones since i did my big one. Yours really turned out nice!
Looks pretty good. My son and I will be getting a 3D printer for Christmas this year and I'm seriously considering experimenting with multiboard too. It was great to see the good, bad and ugly throughout your process so far.
I wish you the best on your journey. What printer are you looking at?
@@dougdoesstuff24 I purchased the Elegoo Neptune 3 Pro during Prime days. From what I've researched it's a great beginner model. It's been sitting boxed in our bedroom waiting for Christmas. It's so hard not to open it early.
@@paulmleziva6574 I wish you the best of luck with it! I like to use their filament, so hopefully their printer is as good!
Nice ride man does it come with an 8 track stereo man?
Haha, would be great
I just started watching your videos and iv seen 2 now but did you check the nozzel on the ender it might be worn if its not using a harden nozel.
I appreciate you following along. It was a hardened nozzle, but I did end up changing it. Did not have very many hours on it though. I think my issue was bed adhesion too
@dougdoesstuff24 you may already know this but they do have a sticker type build plate you can put on top of your current one. They are pretty cheap here In Canada.
@@Dot2TheLock a sticker type build plate? Not sure what you mean.
You know, Bambu labs is having a sale right now. An A1 is just $299 and would run circles around those enders. Plus you'd have the option of multi-color if you wanted to add an AMS at some point. Just saying.
I did not know they were having a sale, but good info and I'll check it out. I'm sure it would run circles, that is all I hear about them, but I'm stuck with these two printers right now. Unless Bambu wants to send me one for a side by side 😁 I am holding out for the bigger printer at this point, probably a Qidi 4 as it's cost is more approvable.
I'm curious how old that nozzle was? I don't see how it was so worn out unless you've printed a ton of abrasives with it. Also, I've never personally used an Ender 3, but seeing as that you could get a brand new one (v2 I think?) for $50, I'm not sure it's worth the hassle. How is the filament getting fed from the spool to the extruder? Is there any strain between those 2 points? Is it fed through a tube? Is the ID of the tube too small? I've not really used an Ender 3, so not familiar with them. Also, printing Multiboard can be frustrating if things don't go perfectly. I've started printing out my panels, which is going to be 70-80 8x8 or 8x9 tiles. I was getting some warping in 1 corner of my bed consistently, so I bought a bottle of Vision Miner Nano and no more issues. If worst comes to worst, you can always check your local FB marketplace to pick up a used printer that 'just works'. I'll let you determine which brand that is. Good luck!
Hey Ken. Not sure how old that nozzle was, but definitely did not have a ton run through it, and it was all PLA. I'd steer anyone away from the E3v2Neo! My E3 pro is a slow and steady printer with good quality, so if you are not in a rush it is good. Filament in this video was a bowden tube set up, I've switched to a direct drive since. Multiboard is like a torture test for the first few layers!!!! I used some glue since this and it is sticking now, but I am still getting little nibs and now some edges are warping.
@dougdoesstuff24 I'd definitely recommend getting some Vision Miner Nano. It's a little pricy for the bigger bottle ($45ish on Amazon), but so far, it has been completely worth it. Was the nozzle cheap brass off Amazon or Ali Express? That could have something to do with it. I upgraded my MK3S+ (now 3.5S) to the Revo quick change hotend a while back, and it's been solid. I also just ponied up the $65 for the Obxidian .4mm nozzle. One other thing regarding filament. I bought the Geeetech 10 kg deal you see ads for on social media. It came out to $105 shipped, so $10.50 a spool. I'll probably use 6-7 spools for my initial project, so I figured I'd give it a try. So far, the panels themselves have been good, as well as most of the accessories I've printed. I'd steer clear of printing folding screws, etc with it. I don't think they turn out that great. The filament smells pretty bad, and its dimensional tolerance isn't as good as most filament is you've probably used, but it's good enough for this project for the price.
I will look into it. I was using elmers purple glue, which seemed to work until the edges on part of the print pulled up. Not a cheap nozzle, at least I don't think so. It was a hardened steel one I purposely bought to be more durable than the brass ones. I've been using Elegoo and Overture filament and they have been fine. Tolerances have been good on my e3pro as well. I printed some of the locking bolts that print in half. They go in fine. I did superglue some together and just made sure the threads lined up.
Get a PEI double sided magnetic build plate, you won't look back. If a warped bed is an issue (one reason I used glass as long as I did), use some painters tape under the sheet to raise any low points that the auto levelling isn't compensating for. 40mm/s is the fastest I would go for retractions, personally I use 35mm/s and 1mm-1.5mm on those style direct drive setups, 40mm/s 0.5mm on my sv06 and 30mm/s 3mm on my bowden equipped ender 3's (the 6mm they use as default is twice what you need, I get no stringing and can print the Eiffel Tower print reliably, so long as I have dry filament). Glue stick is fine and it works, but once I got a PEI build plate for one printer, within a week I replaced all 4 of my print beds with PEI, and only a week earlier I bought 3 brand new glass beds, 2 of which will likely never be used now. Good luck and all the best. If you need any tips I have done the hard yards and am happy to help.
Hey Joe. I have a PEI plate, wasn't liking it because nothing would stick and my bed was VERY unlevel so I went to the glass bed. Initially the comgrow glass bed was amazing and everything stuck....until it didn't and it has been a nightmare since. I will look at the painters tape idea and try the PEI again. As for the retraction speed, I think part of the issue is that multiboard is like a torture test for the first layer and I keep getting little blobs. Retraction speed and distance didn't seem to make a big difference, but I did do a retract tower and it looked like 1 to 1.2 was the sweet spot with the slightest amount of angel hair coming off. Thanks for the offer and let's hope I can get this to the next level!
@@dougdoesstuff24 Yeah, I thought the bed may have been warped/unlevel. It's extremely common with cheaper printers, I have no levelling probes on my ender 3's and with painter tape to get the bed as level as possible I got great results. I am mainly using the textured PEI unless I am printing ABS, you get a little more room for error. Also for the smooth PEI a light scrub with a lightly abrasive cleaning pad will prime the PEI and material will stick far better (I think in the US they call them brillo pads?), not the ones that are soapy though, just the normal steel wool ones. This only needs to be done every so often and I go tens, if not a hundred prints before needing to give it another scrub. Just IPA cleans in between to get any oils off the surface. Good luck mate, and happy, hopefully successful printing.
@@dougdoesstuff24 Oh, also I have the same comgrow glass beds and they stick extremely well when new, the brillo trick also helps to revive them too, but once the surface is completely worn it will need replacing.
Both my printers have CrTouch probes on them, but without the glass it is so unlevel. Maybe I will do a video showing the difference.
I only printed a few times on the glass bed, no reason for it to be worn out at this point.
I admire your determination. I would have thrown in the towel a few times already. Have you considered getting something besides an Ender? I feel like you've spent a bit trying to upgrade that sucker.
Yeah, I'm determined to a fault unfortunately. If I had the money I'd go bambu with AMS, but I might hold out for qidi with AMS when it comes out. For now, I need to get these working. I think multiboard is a torture test
Looking good! I've become obsessed with all things multiboard since I got mine up. Getting close to finished filling mine up. Hope you keep on updating as you fill it up with mounts and stuff.
I'm pretty obsessed too! I'll keep videoing!
the diffent noise might because of a diffenrnt speed maybe
Ahh... Creatlity. Now there's your problem. Everything is better when it's made with Bambu. :)
Wish I had the cash. If @bambulabs wants to send me one I'm all for it
take the liitle metal thing that you can use to tighten up the extruder out because it is probily still to tight
add a skirt also all nozzles oze out when hot and take your magnet off of the bed if you arent gonna use one of the pei type sheets it will help with print quailtiy because it will be lighter and it will heat up the build plate faster
Same thing as textured PEI and G10.
Glad it's finally coming together for you. I think you are going to love the multiboard system. I'm just getting started with it as well and it has been a game changer for organization.
try a different slicer to help with your ender issues i would recomend orca slicer
As much as I love using Cura, Creality app prints faster and yields better results.
such a nice fit so far in the wide view of everything. Those little gaps between two panels would probably bug me too, but still for such a big project it's going well.
Thank you! I think a few well placed tools will hide them 😀
Looking good! I've been using the same method of slapping mine on the wall. print, place, mark, remove, install wall anchor, remount. I think sometimes there is slack when I am doing that marking and when i have lower connectors in the holes don't line up so I bet that alignment problem you mentioned is like that. I saw it a little bit too. Are you planning to do that whole wall behind your bench or are you going beyond that?
I'm going to cover the entire wall and go from there. After the wall, I might try the under desk stuff
wow 9x9 tiles take 3 hours for me to print per tile that long for just 4 ouch
The life of owning an Ender 3. I am sure I could bump up speeds, but I don't want to at the cost of quality.
this is nothing to a true printer
Hi - enjoying your videos. I just put up a small multiboard grid myself. My is using 8x8 tiles, with one 8x9 to fill in a gap. will end up being 3x9 tiles total until I expand a section up the wall a bit. Not as big as the one you are doing but the system is really neat. Looking forward to watching your build come along. I hope you keep sharing your progress.
You know Gridfinity is just a rip off of Alexandre Chappel's system right? I enjoyed watching your build! Excited to see it progress.
I did not know, but good to know that the movie I am watching is a remake of a remake :)
Always love your content and excited to see what you do with multiboard. It's such a wonderful versatile system.
I had a spot on my bed that was having adhesion issues at one point. I just cleaned it with some dish soap, warm water, and a soft sponge and it started working perfectly again. I'm pretty sure it was oil from my skin touching the plate that was causing the problem.
12:12 I had some issues with stringing with CC3D filament. At first I thought it was because I had just transitioned from Cura slicer to Orca slicer. Printing from Cura yielded the same results. Digging around in Orca, I came across filament settings. I looked up the specs and settings for the CC3D filament and dialed that in. Let me tell you, it made the world of difference. I see plenty of videos on dialing printer settings which does apply to filaments to some extent. But in my research, different filaments can require different tweaks such as extrusion rate. I’m averaging about two multiboard tiles every other day, so I understand just wanting to be done and on to the next project. Hopefully you’ll be done soon. Best regards.
Take them gloves off goofball! Gotta be one with the grease!
can you flip the bed for another texture?
Yes, but the other side specifically says"use glue" written on it
@@dougdoesstuff24 oooooh time for spray adhesive?
raise the bed temp to 70 if its PLA+
Try some glue on the bed. Do not look at the frist layer, only the 3rd and 4th. If it looks good then let it run.
