    Do you have issues with motion blur? There's really no indication as to whether shutter speed is high enough or not. I don't get how having amazing autofocus is going to help with that. Also, I saw another review on this camera that said it focuses through glass. I thought this was impossible. What a confusing camera.

  • @artistjoh
    @artistjoh 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Inexperience makes for extremely limited reviews. One or two rolls of film is not enough to make claims about the camera because with all new formats and camera types, it takes time to learn the new cameras capabilities. The 24 shots cartridge has some big advantages vs half-frame. With half frame once the film is loaded that is your only choice for 72 frames. Doesn't matter if you need a faster or slower film, or want to switch to another film type. 72 is a lot of photographs. The cartridge on the other hand means that you can hot swap between cartridges. You lose one frame when you do it, but you can swap 100 ISO to 400. You can swap between Turquoise, Purple, '92, Orca, etc., at will. love that. I remember 1972 and the introduction of 110. It was not to make it easier than 135. That already existed with 126 cartridges introduced in the 1960's. It was to reduce the size of instamatics to a pocketable size. 126 Instamatics had the same easy loading, but it made larger square shaped photographs. Customers preferred the 4:3 ratio of 110, and the cameras were nice and small. It was a big hit, but not because it was easier than 35mm film. Something people noticed early on, was that the form factor of the cameras made it much easier to get the horizon level in the photos. Another 110- advantage. Another advantage is that when developing your own film (highly recommended as it brings costs way down) the reels can be stacked in the developing can, and it is possible to develop several rolls at once. Zone focussing is one of the easiest manual focus methods. When I was young, in the 1950's and 60's, most cheap cameras zone focussed. We got used to it, and it is easy to guess distance. You quickly get good at it. It is not a real problem. War and hunger are real problems. Zone focussing is a doddle. But the giant advantage is simply how pocketable those cameras are. They have rounded edges, and slip in and out of all but the smallest pockets. That makes this camera easy to carry. Your phone can do more, but the fun cannot provide the fun factor. The excitement of looking at freshly developed photographs, including the surprises because you forgot about some of them. And nothing beats having a photo album. People love looking through photo albums. The biggest criticism is the strange lack of a tripod mount. A dumb decision by Lomography. However, you can use a rubber band to hold it on a tripod. You can rest it on a surface. And the slow low light nature of film opens lots of great light painting opportunities, so the bulb mode is a great creative tool despite the lack of tripod mount. I mount it by carrying rubber bands with me. The night and day controls the aperture (2.8 or 5.6). There are better 110 cameras out there. I love the Minolta SLR Zoom for the manual control it gives me. I also have the Pentax 110 Auto. It has fabulous tiny interchangeable lenses, and it is most people's favorite but it is to automatic for me. But old cameras often come with problems of age, and these brand new Lomomatic 110's are a brilliant little camera to have in 2025. I liked your photographs. You should try shooting 110 some more. Orca is great to try.

      I mean the original rollei 35 also costed a similar ammount when it came out, this is how much film cameras have always cost

  • @campyonlyguy
    @campyonlyguy 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I've had the same problems loading my 35AF. Here's what I do: Rather than insert the film canister and then extend it across to the takeup spool, I first insert the film leader into the takeup spool and fire off 2-3 shots. While doing this, I make sure the film is starting to wrap around the spool, using a finger if needed to hold it it. Once I'm satisfied that it's firmly in place, I lay the film over the back of the camera and insert the canister. I have had no problems with film loading using this method. BTW, I looked at the film takeup spool on my classic Rollei 35S, and it looks exactly the same at the 35AF, so I can't explain why Mint's camera has this problem.

    • @BrianCho
      @BrianCho 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That's a good tip! I think I did something similar to force the film leader to stick with the spool. One thing I noticed about the original Rollei take-up spool is that it has arrows and a large gear ring on the bottom of the spool to allow manual winding without the film advance lever. Seems like the original Rollei's had a better design to catch the film leader sprockets.

    • @campyonlyguy
      @campyonlyguy 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ Yes, something in the Rollei (and other similar cameras) makes the loading more consistent. I’m not sure what Mint is doing wrong, but I hope they correct it in a future version of the 35AF.

  • @williammacintosh1239
    @williammacintosh1239 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Pretty much echoes my experience - quick question though about the take up spool issues which I’ve seen echoed. Does your model have a sprocket inside the spool itself? Mine is fairly hidden inside the leader slot and I really only noticed it when doing my first winds. It’s a shame this camera wasn’t just an auto-wind that ditched the Rollei knobs, you’d lose the homage but gain a great point-and-shoot. I sadly think it’s a miss at the price tag.

    • @BrianCho
      @BrianCho 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

    • @BrianCho
      @BrianCho 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      good question. I’d highly recommend ensuring the film leader is tucked into the take up spool and fire off a couple shots to see the film advancing properly. Better to sacrifice a handful of frames than losing the entire roll!

      Spot on honestly. I wouldn’t recommend Harlowe for everyone and I’m definitely biased since I’ve had a good relationship with their team. Sent it to Wetzlar for an eventual repair... I bought it second hand two years ago for 2'100 USD... Wetzlar asked 2'890 for the repair... Even though I loved my Leica SL.. I had to refuse the repair, and they kept the camera.... I’m so torn on this camera. I love the size and weight and operation. But the corners are so weak that sometimes I wish I was just shooting a (muskier and heavier) film SLR with a good 28mm or 24mm lens. It often feels like the only usable part of the image is the equivalent of a single 35mm frame. I know there are medium format cameras with better lenses, and there are means of adapting 35mm film into them. But the loading is always something of a kludge, while the sprocket rocket’s film winding is rather good. I sometimes think about getting a torn or broken folding camera, and hacking that lens onto it. If Lomo ever made, say, a Sproket Rocket Pro which used the lens from one of their nicer medium format cameras like the Lubitel 166+ or the LC-120, I think that would be a big winner. It’d no doubt bulk up the camera, and a 75mm lens would have a very different look, but the gains in IQ and control would be worthwhile.

    • @BrianCho
      @BrianCho 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I definitely resonate with how you feel about the build of this camera. I had it as my third "everyday carry" camera while in Alaska as a backup. I love the ability for the Sprocket Rocket to capture the sweeping landscape of an image, but I do agree that if this camera had a "pro" version it would become much more successful and useful. Fingers crossed, hoping for Lomography to release another iteration!

    Hi and thanks for this video. You replaced the red dot with a black dot. I'm curious about your black dot. Can you tell me more about it? Could you tell me where can I find this kind of black dot? Thanks in advance

      Leica themselves actually had their red dot covered. It's possible this SL2-S was a loaner model and therefore never had the red dot to begin with.

    For all of you photogs out there, this is a VERY video-centric review.

    14:35 one thing you didn’t touch on in this section is that you can actually change the manual focus settings to not be acceleration based. In fact, you can dial in how many degrees you want it to turn from close focus to infinity! So it’s really the best focus by wire system out there.

      16:06 also the Leica 24-70 focuses much faster than the Sigma. As a general rule the Leica made SL lenses focus better than the Sigmas on the SL cameras.

      @@_parkphoto Thanks for the corrections! Wish I had more time to discover this. Pinning so people are aware.

      @@BrianCho for sure, thanks! I’ve been shooting the SL2-S since August so I’ve become pretty familiar with it.

    I couldn’t agree more with you Brian. The only thins is that the 24-70 is newer than the summicron I believe. If it wasn’t for the auto focus it would be a dream camera to work with for video. Cheers

    If you're into high contrast black and white with crazy resolution, you should really give Ferrania p30 a go. It's a little harder to shoot but the images are staggeringly pretty.

    Ektar is my fave C41 stock. Love Velvia 50 on 120, but any film is good if you enjoy the process.
