Great coach, and a great training session overall. He's very knowledgeable and patient. The one thing he should have emphasized for Emily is how to finish a layup properly. All her layup run-ups were random. That's why she didn't get a hang of it. On a layup from the right side of the court, while dribbling with your right hand it is very important that your LAST DRIBBLE touches the floor at the same time as your LEFT FOOT touches the floor. Bam! and then you make the two steps - right, left, jumping with that last left. So regardless of your running rhythm prior to this, it can be completely random, as soon as you get closer to the basket and you're in layup distance and your left foot touches the ground, your forcefully dribble the ball to the ground as well on that same left step. Your left foot and your last dribble MUST line up. That is the correct setup to have your last two steps be in the correct rhythm. If you don't do this, your steps will be random (just like in Emily's case). So to sum up, when making a layup from the right side of the court: - left foot and last dribble must align! (they must touch the ground at the same time, you achieve this by forcing the ball down at the right timing, this sets the correct rhythm for the coming two steps) - after that you do your two steps, RIGHT LEFT, jumping with that last left step - while you jump with your left foot your RIGHT KNEE goes up (not forward, but up, you jump up, or if you can't jump yet you simply extend up) - and you extend your RIGHT HAND with the ball up towards the basket/backboard as well I know Emily won't read this, so it's irrelevant, but I'll still leave this here for everyone who comes across it to read.
