Breath of Fire II character guide. Katt: The mother of dodge tanking
มุมมอง 13หลายเดือนก่อน
This is a guide for Breath of Fire II's Katt. This guide covers her strengths, weaknesses, field and combat abilities, spells, and endgame equipment. I personally think Capcom may have intended for Katt to utilize a form of defense that later became more well known in later RPG games called dodge tanking, in which enemies would try to attack a character but they wold dodge the attacks thanks in...

would u need a white mage if u had a chemist? and what other jobs mix good with a chemist?
@@joedog3977 Combining Chemist's mix with White Mage's magic makes it a very good support as it gives you healing and buffing. Time Magic also works well with a Chemist. Mix can go well with most jobs but the ones with agility benefits the most.
Is it possible to master the freelancer??
Only if you choose to master all of the jobs and abilities. Other than that, it probably does or doesn't receive stars after that.
Useless video
Well, I know I'm not good at describing things and whatnot, but if it was useless, how come the video has a lot of views?
Bleu/Deis: weapon: rings special ability: "hunting" (she always fries the animals into the useless 'charcoal' items, so she really can't truly hunt, even though she technically can hunt, lol, meh) special combat ability: shed (same as Ryu's 'guts' special combat ability, replenishes more life with the less current life/hp you have remaining, can failure too though, but it is "free"/unlimited) she is basically a combination of Ryu (somewhat) and a more powerful/better Nina, she gets the most hp/life (rand gets the 2nd most) and ap/mp (even more than nina), she starts off at like clvl 35-ish and with most of her spells, has good stats too I think, she can be quite the tank, especially with her 'shed' special combat ability, just like ryu with his 'guts' special combat ability, she does level up slow I think, I can't remember too well if she's fast or slow, meh, her physical damage isn't that great though, not sure who does more/less physical damage between her and nina, meh, and she gets good equipment selection, basically the same as nina's. She does also get the OP 'atk up' (ST) buff spell too, along with all of her mostly damage spells (like Nina), and gets def up (ST) buff spell too, and also the 'warp' spell as well, and some other buff and debuff spells, too also: she can NOT counter attack (only Ryu and Katt can counter attack) affinity: N/A (can NOT shamanize, just like Ryu can NOT as well) position: 4 (or 3) (or 2, has she can "tank", but you're handicapping yourself offensively, unless you got no one better for position 2)
Bow: weapon: bows special ability: hunting (over-world only) (only Bow and Katt can hunt) special combat ability: shot (ST = single target, if succeeds, insta-kills, otherwise, it either ’misses' or does only 1 damage) while in the beginning of the game, he's physically stronger than ryu (more physical damage and physical defense), Bow is actually the "white mage" (healer) of the entire 9 party members, though he still always does good physical damage, good equipment selection, lots of ap (mp), has all of the healing spells, and physical defense buffing spells, and he does lvl up very fast (~tied with Katt for requiring the least exp to lvl up) also: he can NOT counter attack (only Ryu and Katt can counter attack) affinity: none (sadly, but at least he does still have a form change sprite shamanization) position: 3 (or 4) (or 1 only for the very beginning of the game, before ryu gets equipment and clvls)
Spar: ('Spar' is short for a-spar-agus, japanese and their food usage and puns, laughs) (spar is a plant-hybrid, and most plants have/are both sexes / sex organs: pistols and stamens, aka, most plants are hermaphrodites/bisexuals, so, spar can be either male or female, I will just use 'he' for my own convenience) weapons: whips special ability 1: can travel through the forests on the world map special ability 2: can talk to the ~ 4-5 great wise trees on the world map special combat ability: nature (it's the same as Mog's 'dance' special combat ability in FF6 JP / FF3 US: it has groups of different and various spells depending on what terrain/background you're fighting in, and some terrain/background are useless too, so may not always be able to use 'nature' special combat ability) for the most part, Spar is more of a magical character, with a ton of mostly various support types of spells (also gets the extremely useful 'warp' spell), only 1 or 2 damage spells, and I think they're only ST too, and also only gets 1 weak healing spell, I think, if remember right, gets a ton of ap/mp, has high wisdom (magical resistance), and not too much physical damage (strength) and physical defense, as usually you want to be using his 'nature' special combat ability instead of physically attacking with your weapon, not sure how his agility is though, as I don't use him too often, has good gear selection, and I think takes a pretty lot of exp to level up, however, he can be a very damaging physical attacker with using earth for/as his affinity (as he auto-self casts 'atk up' buff on himself in this earth shamanization/fusion form of his, and maybe, he also does counter attack too, but can't remember, meh), but am not sure about his 'snap-dragon / plant-dragon' shamanization/fusion as I've still never used/tried it yet, laughs, or, you can go with his magical mushroom girl shamanization/fusion, for a truly strong magical support character. He gets the rare and OP buff spell: 'atk-up', but it is ST (can't remember if bleu/deis gets a MT 'atk-up-x' buff spell, or if it's just ST 'atk-up' buff spell), which makes him quite useful, boosting the attack damage of your 3 other team party members, as you cast it upon them Edit: he does get cure 2 spell, so he's got decent healing spells (but only ST healing), as well as also def-up-x for a MT defense buff spell (Bow also gets this too), and has a few buff and debuff spells too as well also: he can NOT counter attack (only Ryu and Katt can counter attack) affinities: water, earth, and devil // Spar is the only character that has 3 sprite form change shamanizations position: 4 (or 3) (or if using his earth shamanization/fusion, then position 1 in the normal formation)
Jean: weapon: rapiers (and either 1 sword or a few swords) special ability: turns into a frog (press the 'Y' button again to change back into human-normal jean sprite), his 'hopping' movement travels 2 steps for only 1 step in movement cost (random-battle/encounters-step-count), so it's really good for traveling by land on the over-world (Jean and Rand are best for traveling on land for the over-world), also, you can go up/down the elevated land/cliffs too, instead of having to go to the ramps that go up/down, and you can also hop over the 1 tile gaps with the wooden pegs/stakes in the ground on the over-world only, so you can use Jean instead of Sten for the over-world movement of crossing the 1 tile gaps with the wooden pegs/stakes on both sides (and you can also cross over the 1 tile ocean gap that separates 'capitan' town from the western continent / frog-jean forest, instead of taking the boat across), and lastly, as a frog, jean can swim in fresh water (lakes and rivers), and there's no random encounters in water travel (both the ocean with the whale and fresh water with Jean as a frog) special combat ability: Jab, it attacks all enemies (MT), the first target, it does 100% damage, but each additional target is -30% offense/damage Jean is a bit like Rand in that he is slow but is tanky (but not as slow and not as tanky as Rand, lol), but unlike Rand, Jean does do good damage (if you actually use him / level him up, and equip him too, lol), he does get decent life, and decent ap/mp too, though his spells generally aren't too useful/powerful (but he does get the extremely useful 'warp' spell, only Spar and Bleu/Deis also gets the 'warp' spell, Jean and Spar and Bleu/Deis are the only three characters who get the 'warp' spell), except in some situations or for specific monsters/areas for his spell usage, has good equipment selection, but he also levels up slowly as well also: he can NOT counter attack (only Ryu and Katt can counter attack) affinity: holy positions: 3 (or 4)
for the far dash, you said "you hold the second button" but you didn't say what that button was? Is it just holding forward after forward > forward? Is it the same if you do forward + PPP?
My apologies. For the far dash, you need to hold during the second Forward input in order to get the far dash. Using a button for all three punches triggers the short dash.
Nina: weapons: rings special ability 1: in dungeons/towns/caves/etc, she won't fall down some holes in the floor/ground special ability 2: later in the game, she'll be able to fly in the over-world special combat ability: will (it's the exact same as Ryu's 'guts' special combat ability, except it replenishes her ap/mp instead of life/hp, so the less current ap/mp you got remaining, the more ap/mp it'll replenish, and also it can failure too, but it is "free"/unlimited) unlike BoF1's Nina being your "white-mage"/healer, BoF2's Nina is your "black mage" (damage spell caster), so she has really high wisdom (high magical resistance), but very little life (Nina and Katt both have the least amount of life) and defense (stamina), and also, Nina actually is quite slow (low agility stat growth), but her affinity fixes that later on, and also she doesn't do much physical damage either (though she might do more physical damage than Rand, especially as you get further into the game and get better equipment, lol), she's got tons of damage spells and also she gets some debuffing spells too, she does level slowly as well too (she takes a lot of exp to lvl up), also, she's got good gear selection too. Lastly, she does get her last spells at high clvl (50-60), so you'll need to level her up quite a bit to get her full spell collection // Nina is also the most optimal for all (EX-cluding barose) of the event chosen spells: renew/cure2, chopchop, and boombada (if you can manage to get this, seriously, it's probably the hardest mini-game in all of gaming, lol) also: she can NOT counter attack (only Ryu and Katt can counter attack) affinity: wind position: 4 (or 3)
Rand: weapon: knuckles special ability 1: on the over-world only, he can roll into a ball (that you can control, but it's not easy), which allows him to travel the over-world forever (if you're good at controlling his rolling) and without any random encounters/battles, until he runs/rolls/bumps into something, which stops his rolling and has a high chance of a random encounter, but not always, so this makes him really good for traveling over the land of the world map (if you're good at controlling his rolling) special ability 2: in a specific area of the game, he can break down walls special combat ability: wake (chance of reviving/resurrecting a dead party member but with only like 1 hp upon revival, but it can failure too, but it's "free"/unlimited, and, also, it will damage party members for 1 hp, which can be used to wake them up from the 'asleep' status effect too) Rand is extremely limited in equipment selection (so check/equip him with the best equipment that you can first, and then try your other party members), but he makes up for it with very high stat growth at lvl ups, however, he does require a lot of exp to lvl up. Rand is extremely physically tanky (high stamina), gets lots of hp (gets up to like ~ 700, if I remember right, at max clvl of 99, beaten I think by only Bleu/Deis, if remember right) and good amount of ap/mp too, and he's a weak "red mage" in terms of his spells: some weak MT damage spells, a cure poison/zombie-rotting spell, and very good healing spells (Bow is #1 healer, Rand is #2 healer). His physical damage usually isn't that great, due to his limited and weak equipment selection, especially his weapons (knuckles), so, as you get further in the game and get better and better equipment, Rand gets left behind, becoming the weakest party member. Also, Rand is extremely slow (low agility), he'll always go last in battle, so you might as well use his high defense armor, as its weight won't really hurt him at all (he's always already the slowest, so don't worry about putting his heavy armor on him, making him slower, as he's already going last in battle anyways, so might as well give him that defense from his heavy armor) also: he can NOT counter attack (only Ryu and Katt can counter attack) affinity: earth position: 3 (or 4, or 2) // depends on who're your other team members (he's weak offensively, but he's your tank too)
Katt: weapon: staffs special ability 1: hunting (over-world only) (only Bow and Katt can hunt) special ability 2: she can break stuff in towns/dungeons/caves/etc special ability 3: she can talk to some (or at least one) cat npc/s special combat ability: dare (you do NOT attack, and it also increases the chance of her getting targeted, which is usually very bad for her, lol, but maybe there's some niche situations where it can be useful: not tested if it can be used against magical characters, causing/forcing them to do physical-weapon attacks instead of casting their spells: "cheating/cheap" tactic, if it does work, but sadly, it doesn't lower the monster/s damage, like she does against you, as a boss/mini-boss when you fight against her in the coliseum at corsair, only doing 1 damage to her after she does dare upon you. Katt does have high agility stat growth, so she can dodge/evade attacks sometimes, but this isn't too often, so, using 'dare' is further made useless, lol) Katt is your "berserker" (pure physical offense/damage glass cannon) for the entire game (though late game: shamanized/fused/devil-katt and/or high clvl, she's far less fragile, and she can cast her high-powered spells finally too, having enough ap/mp for casting them), she always hits as hard or even harder than ryu does, and she's very fast too, so she often goes first (agility), and she's got good evasion (agility) too, but she has low life and low defense (stamina), and she does get some high-powered MT spells, but she doesn't have the ap/mp to cast them until she gets to high clvl, but when she does/can, she becomes also a weak "black mage", on top of her being a berserker, and she levels up very fast (she needs very little exp to lvl up, ~tied with Bow in lvling up the fastest), also she's got good gear selection too also: she CAN counter attack (only Ryu and Katt can counter attack) affinity: devil position: 1 usually, or 2 // she's the berserker, use her for her strengths (offense/damage), as that's all she's got/is, lol
PS Katt does actually have a thong/bikini bottom on, but the pixels are too small to see it (and/or its in the background, covered over by other pixel of her sprite/body), laughs
Katt best Bof girl. 👍
yep, Katt rules // wish we got more backstory for her (same with Bow too) // there's really not too many playable females in the BoF series: Nina, Deis/Bleu, Katt, Momo, and Spar+Seso (patty is the runner up, it'd be so awesome if she were a playable character, though not sure how would design her in terms of game play and balancing, lol, and of course, have much more story/plot involving her) (valerie from bof 2 would be the 2nd runner up, then maybe Sara from BoF 1) (I don't really care too much for Deis/Bleu, lol)
my basic summary for Sten (for new players)... -------------------- Sten: weapon: daggers special ability: he can cross the 1 tile gaps with the wooden pegs/stakes in the ground, in both the over-world and in towns/caves/dungeons/etc special combat ability: RIP (you still will attack, but-and it's the opposite of Katt's dare ability: it decreases the chance that he gets targeted, however unlike Katt's 'dare' special combat ability, it also lowers his defense too, so he'll take more damage if he gets targeted, so usually, you never want to use this just like with Katt's 'dare' special combat ability, both are bad, except for maybe some niche situations, and NEVER use RIP, when there's only Sten in your party or remaining alive, as he will be targeted, and he'll be taking more damage because of RIP, so don't use it, lol) Sten is a really good party member (though a lot of people don't like his character, "womanizer", due to how he gets introduced/joined in the game, but that's not really who he is, but you don't find that out until later on), he does good physical damage (but Ryu and Katt do more), has a bit more defense (stamina) and life than does Katt, gets a decent amount of ap/mp, and is a decent "black mage" (gets some good damage spells, both ST and MT), and he's quite fast too (but not as fast as Katt), and has good equipment selection, also he levels up about in the middle in terms of exp needed for lvl ups also: he can NOT counter attack (only Ryu and Katt can counter attack) affinity: fire position: 3 usually, or 2, if he's your 2nd best physical damage dealer for your current team
my own basic summary of Ryu (for new players) -------------------------- Ryu: weapon: swords (but can equip a few specific staffs, daggers, and rapiers too) special ability: fishing (over-world only) // needs a fishing pole accessory equipment and a type of bait item special combat ability: guts ("free/infinite" hp restore, but it can failure too, the less current hp you got remaining, the more hp it will replenish, if it doesn't fail, of course) your basic/common main character of RPGs: high physical damage, tanky (high physical defense and good hp amount, not sure about his magical defense though), good equipment, healing spells, and later on, will get damage spells (since you know BoF games, he gets his dragon spells, later on in the game via game events, some are automatic/forced given to you, and some you got to find them, to get them), he does lvl up slowly (takes a lot of exp to lvl up), but since he's forced in the party at almost all times, he'll usually have the highest clvl of your entire party members, despite his taking a lot of exp to lvl up, and also, he is quite slow too (low AGI/VIG, usually goes last or near last in turns in battle, and won't be able to run/escape from battles) also: he CAN counter attack (only Ryu and Katt can counter attack) affinity: N/A (can't shamanize) position: 1 usually, but in a few niche/specific situations, you can have someone else (mostly only late-game-equipment/shaman-fusion Katt, or Spar with his 'bud/seedling/onion' fusion/shaman in normal formation) for position 1, with Ryu then in position 2 // at the beginning of the game, Ryu is weaker than Bow, at least until you get some clvls and equipment, so until then, you can put Bow in position 1, but once Ryu gets some clvls and equipment, switch back to having Ryu in position 1 and Bow at position 2
Red mage is worse
I really want to go back and play FFV. I think I played through it but it's been so long. I remember it being fun. Thanks for this.
It does but since COUNTER ATTACK does make endless 4x Gil Toss users or Bahamut 4x with Mime it useless so NEVER master the MONK class for THAT exact reason.
The system of counting the number of enemies is a maximum of 3, if there is an object such as a barrel or bin, that number deducts enemies, for example, if you see 2 boxes, only 1 enemy will appear, if there is 1, only 2 enemies, the game obeys era rule, this rule also applies in the SNES Final Fight and in some parts of the GameBoyAdvance Final Fight One, areas where I forgot to fix that detail due to the little ram that the SNES had, for example in the FFO in the Park after beating group of fat people running there are 3 barrels, if you don't hit them you will face 1 Andore but if you break the 3 barrels the remaining Two-P will come out
In fact 4x of them AT LV 99 and FF5's final boss is still IMPOSSIBLE the only job WORSE then it are 4x Dragoon users since in FF5 Dragoon is also pure crap.
Correct while in FF5 Dragoon is pure crap the ONLY JOB WORSE then it are a 4x Beserker run which is still impossible even at lv 99.
👍
With how bare bones the western port is, it sure held us over for what it is. Glad I got to play the jp version and the first stage ost rocks.
👍🏻
I found you from a TMNT GDQ commentary from January 2024, and your knowledge was fantastic. This run on POW was excellent, too, keep up the fantastic gameplay! ❤
This is so helpful, thank you
Didn't know the warp room existed
Max did all that? How'd I missed that?😞
That’s cool AGDQ accepts vitrtual console downloads
good stuff (~ ̄▽ ̄)~
i was playing secret of mana but i open the same invisible chest and got a sword orb. (now mana sword available without the reset glitch :D)
This game and castlevania made the genre
I was playing this game the other day. It’s such a lesser known game in the genre too. I could listen to the ost all day. I need to truly finish this game once and for all.
Did Capcom mess up the AI on that last boss? lol
Pretty cool. I never seen him killed on the first go. I like the snes original the best.
*Promo SM* 😌
This game is so unique compared to the many other fighting games at the time. I love the ost of stage 1,3 and the boss theme. Glad I got two carts of this game
The amount of effort you give for this game is unmatched. I have this game but it’s so long to play
Good tip dude! I didn't even know this. ^_^
I love this game even though I beat it many times to the point I’m never gonna play it again. Love having it in the snes collection
The lag sucks and should be easily fixed but sadly it’s not :(
I wonder how in the heck could you find the secret warps like that? The statue looks like something from actraiser
I didn't know of it until JoshtheFunkdoc told me about this. You can find out more about it through Rival Turf The Cutting Floor. You can find it by looking at it on Google search engine.
Are you ever going to do snes pirates of dark water? That’s the last capcom like brawler on the snes I want for the collection but it’s pricey
Sadly, no.
The ost for this and brawl brothers is amazing.
I should give this game a go again. Cool to see you cover this game and brawl brothers and final fight 2
I'll be adding more during the week. I still need to highlight stages 3 to 6. Stage 2 will be up tomorrow. I'll have character guides up for Brawl Brothers in the future.
You’re the master at this game on TH-cam. I should get better at this game as I have the cart.
Beat 'Em Up Speedrunners who have more experience than I do could probably do a better job at it than I would. NobleBoy77 and Westpointsteve have also speedrun this game as well with Carlos.
Will you ever speed run final fight 2 2 player with the code for the same character? Having 2 haggars would make the game breeze on by.
That would be nice, but one of the former speedrunners for beat 'em up's said it was considered cheating and as a result, it's not allowed for submission on leaderboards.
Cool you still grind on this game. I should play this game again with some good 420
I was going to submit this to SRC until I found out about stopping the time when the screen shakes after Shredder was defeated. Which I didn't do. Lesson learned.
You can still submit it. Doesn't matter if your timer gets messed up, all runs get retimed manually anyway.
@@Omqwat Okay. I'll try submitting it tomorrow. I usually try to follow the rules when it comes to submitting.
Oh my car(god)!!🤦🤦🤦
I am playing this on my ps4 pro and it’s not working. X keeps falling into the abyss. Am I doing something wrong?? 😂😂😅😅😅
It's tricky, but I think it's similar to getting the Heart Tank in Spark Mandrill's stage, only with more quick reflexes and a pit to deal with. Try to do a dash jump off the wall and then quickly turn around to get to the next part of the wall at the height of the jump.
@@Rotostorm331 I could watch the video in slow mo and try to pick up on what I need to do. Since this my first time playing the MMX series, it’s only natural I would make a lot of mistakes.
@@Rotostorm331 Golly Bob Howdy! It works! All I had to do was hold down the dash button (O) while jumping X and press right while he is scaling the mountain.
