Follow the adventures of two tradies (sometimes more) and their families 4WDing, exploring and camping throughout this great country. Whether it's a quick weekend away or a few weeks on tour, Luke, Curl and their guests spend their time creating memories, testing their skills and enjoying a laugh around the fire. Our 4WD Adventure tagalong tours are fully organised, catered and all inclusive, there is a tour for everyone from beginners to experienced. Let us take the hassle out of the planning for you.
Vic High Country Ep 14 - Feb 23 - Vehicle repairs, new huts, new tracks & new river crossings.
The Barkley River Jeep Track, definitely took it's toll on our vehicles. We made camp not long after finishing the track, due to the afternoon light diminishing quickly. We found a great campground set up the fire and cooked dinner. The next day we travelled together to Licola, before then going our separate ways. Luke went to Bairnsdale, after organising a new CV to be delivered by Roadsafe. Curl and the boys headed back up into the high country to explore some more new tracks for us. They had a ball on some decent tracks, finding new huts, some great river crossings and a beaut little camp spot on the river. We still hadn't found each other at the end of this episode, the boys were having a look at Billy Goat's, while I was checking out the old Good Hope mine site not far out of Talbotville. Here's hoping we can find each other in the next episode......

Travel buddy cook up number 23, with a couple of late cancellations for our Flinders Tour, we decided it was best to postpone it for a month or so. With the kids away for the school holidays visiting their grandparents, Kylie and I decided on a late spontaneous trip. We didn't really start with any plans, but they developed along the way and we had a great time ,camping, driving, sight seeing a...

The Barkley River Jeep Track, we had never heard of it, let alone put it in our list of tracks to do in the Vic High Country. Sounds familiar, yep our last VHC episode was on this hectic track, however, we have managed to find some missing footage from Curls GoPro which shows some different angles and locations for footage. This should help give more of an understanding of some of the track con...

After 6 years and 400000kms I thought it was time to look at a new touring vehicle. Originally I had bought another Ranger 2020, manual and had plans on extending, GVM upgrades and new setup, but timeframes and the thoughts of possibly still having to go through the issues I have again turned my attention to other options. Don't get me wrong, I have loved the Ranger and I still enjoy driving it...

Travel buddy cook up number 22, another dinner on the road. A long day at the office, 400kms each way to the job and 4 hours of work there, the things we do. The dinner and the stunning sunset made it worth it though. We have these Vol-au-vents at home, the kids absolutely love them and I thought they would work well on the road in the Travel Buddy and I was right, very simple and easy, but sup...

Not something I had done before and I was a little dubious of a liquid type meal after some leaks in other cookups, but I thought lets g...

Well I almost didn't make the start of the recon trip with a few mates, a wire broke of the terminal of the temp sensor on the Ranger and the gauge was going up and down flat out. Good memories for me, I haven’t been up there for a few years . Thanks fellas 👍
The High Country general gives people good memories that's for sure. Might be time to get back up there mate.. Thank you for watching.
Another great video love them
Thank you for watching, we appreciate the feedback. Hopefully I can get a bit more time to make some more episodes.
Another great week with Luke and Curl
@@darrinrassack5032 more to come
Seatbelt would be really handy, maybe don't post stuff like this, gives us all a bad rap.
Appreciate the input Dale. as previously stated it was an oversight by me, in lead up videos you can quite clearly see we wear our seat belts. I will take your comments onboard, thank you.
Great cook up mate!! I always keep an eye out for your travel buddy vids keep them coming 👍
Thanks Luke, it was a very nice way to finish the days drive. Had a little adventure after that but that's another story. I think I'll try a slow cooked shank next to see he difference.
Do you have a video tour on your kitchen setup? I love this concept so much!
Thank you, I have done an over all tour of the Ute, but not specifically the kitchen setup, I could do that though. What sort of things would you like to see in it?
@@theoffroadtradies1002 The cooking equipment set up, how is it being powered and a tour of the interior would be awesome! Might sound weird but I'm watching from Singapore and we do not have such cool vehicles over here...
Yum that looked bloody scrumdiddlyumptious
Thanks Podge, it was a rippa meal in an awesome spot. Slow cooked next time I reckon.
I do love your travel buddy cook ups.
Thanks Mark I often wonder if I should keep doing them but good feedback tells me it’s a yes. Appreciate you watching.
Awesome, another winner!
Thank you, it was delicious. Think I’ll do a slow cooked shank next. Thank you for watching.
Noise mate, meal looked good for LAMB (LoL) but what is also excellent is the time with Kylie whilst the kids are away and you have the time. Always precious.
Slow cooked next one Phill, it was delicious and warm.
Amazing ❤😊
Thank you for watching, hope to have more out soon.
Hey Luke, have you ever weighed the car? Ive got a PX2 XLT, booked in for summit, winch, snorkel. Now im stressing about front axle weights!
G'day mate, it was weighed when I bent the chassis and I was around the 4T mark, so yep overweight, not a lot I could do about it though as it needed everything I had on it. I was going to get it GVM upgraded to 3950kgs through Solve Offroad, but I have since bought a 79 as the motor in the old girl went again.
Cheers. Bloody heck 4T! I just watched the run through of the 79. Congrats. Will you do a vid on what went wrong with the ranger?
@@Angler233 I didn’t think about that but it’s a very good idea. I’m moving a heap of parts onto another ranger shortly.
Alsome trip, maybe next time up-hill???
That would be a very interesting drive for sure. 👍
Where did you get the seat covers?
Just had a quick chat with Curl and he said he got them from Autobarn in Dubbo.
Mate what caused this? I got the same issue after using 4wheel drive. There's a big noice when I driver without 4wheel.
For me mate, I was $WDing and I had a large wheel lift, when the ute came down the wheel was spinning and then stopped under load quickly which caused the drive shaft to break.
Can you estimate how much extra coverage you get from your mobile phone set up?
It depends on the terrain a bit mate but it will add around 30-50kms of range for me and also pick up coverage in some places I couldn’t get it before. I’d love to give you an exact distance but it depends on a number of factors. For me in the bush I’d never not have one again.
not saying you did it, sorry
All good mate, we have done right through to the western highway on many other occasions.
Don't you luv people with large tyres running highway pressures in 2wd ripping up tracks just to be hero to his/her mates
Too true mate, makes it very difficult for the newer or less modified vehicles to get through without damage.
I knew I came to the right page ❤wow this is one of Dreams bro
@@hcaban02 look forward to seeing you out there or with us mate. 👍
🎉❤nice,I don't know who the kid is to you Jason. But omg sounds so proud of you man. Perfect video bro ❤❤
Ahh yes that's my youngest daughter, she was cheering on Jesse (the 200 series) it was her nickname for it. I'm very lucky to have a family that love to 4Wd and go camping.
Thanks for your review If you had the chance over what van do you think you would purchase now?
G'day Joel, sorry I have been away for a couple of weeks. That is such a hard question, if you have the funds a full Australian owned and built unit for sure, they seem to be the best option, not quite the layout I needed, but better design and build quality. If not, try to go with a unit that has at least had Aussie suspension in it and check the companies warranty and back up services. What I was told and what actually was available were two very different things.
Come up great mate!
Thank you, still a bit to go but I’m happy with it so far.
Nice video! Are you interested in off-road lighting stuff sponsorship?
Thank you for watching, possibly yes.
@@theoffroadtradies1002 Perfect! Let's move forward via email.
Nicely set up rig👌
Thank you, it was a big decision to go with the cruiser, it progressing well, I still have some work to do yet, but I think that is an endless thing will with decking out 4WD's.
Just needz a jap flag and its done
Maybe some rockslider side steps to protect the sills.
Thanks Paul, I have scrub bars and side steps on my list to still do, along with roof and centre consoles.
Good job mate.
Thanks mate, looking forward to the Flinders trip in it.
Great video incredible views
Thank you it is such an awesome place. We will be going back again soon.
I have done a roast in the oven. I put it all in an oven bag, no mesh

Thank you for watching, I was pretty happy with them and they are so easy to do. I hope you enjoy them as much as the kids and I did.
Nice one mate, haven’t had vol au vents since I was a kid. Will definitely be giving these a go next weekend👍
It does take you back MJ, let me know how you go with it.
What’s happened to the Ranger? Obviously I’ve missed something. Well you won’t be popping CV's anymore 👍
Ahh I won't miss the CV's that's for sure. I still have the ranger, but it is doing just local work around town as it's got 400000kms on the clock now and it needed a rest, had a few things starting to go wrong. I'll be doing a vid shortly of the cruiser once I get a bit more sorted out on it.
@@theoffroadtradies1002 I’m sure you’ll enjoy it they are great vehicles.
A little extravagant but some lobster tails cut up and some mornay sauce would go down a treat
Mate that's something I didn't think of but definitely worth a go, or even yabby tails if you are out bush.
Great vid mate awesome cook up👍👍
Thanks Mark, I'm enjoying being back out and about that's for sure.
Another delicious looking vid thanks
Thanks mate, might be a few weeks to the next as I'm heading to the Cape today for a tour.

@@LukeHaydon-rg4qh great stuff mate you will be hooked now. 👌🤙
Where did you buy the shells from? I don't think I've seen them before
These ones were from our local IGA, but we used to get them from Coles, they had 3 different sizes, the bigger ones are easier to use and make more of a meal.
This looks great. I am about to order one of these ovens, it gives me faith that what I cook will turn out ok. I’ll also look st getting those dishes from Aussie disposals. Look forward to the next cooking segment 😊
Thank you Katherine, you will love the oven. If you can’t find the dish locally try online they are an Avanti Dry Cell. Keep me posted on how you go with it.
Nice one mate, definitely trying this one. I wanted to see if you use a step up on the travel buddy. I’ve been using my travel buddy for years without one, but have heard the step up is a huge improvement. Just wanted to see if you’re running one. Cheers
Thanks MJ, I have never used a step up transformer, I did look into it but decided I was happy without for now.
Awesome cook up mate. The tins that u had with lids were u get please . I checked the Aussie Disposals website ? thanks
Thanks mate, I got mine from Aussie Disposals in Mildura, but he was having some issues restocking. The brand on the bottom of the tin is Avanti and its called a dry cell. Hope this helps mate.
Awesome mate thanks for video I’ll be trying it myself 👍👍
Anytime it was a good cook and delicious I couldn’t ask for much more.

Glad to see these going again, Ive been cooking good food while we're driving on trips thanks to you
Thanks Robert, I've got a few more in mind, will hopefully get another one done this week before I head to the Cape for a few weeks.
What’s the reason for not wearing a seatbelt?
Honestly mate, I totally forgot, I was stressing out about the descent. If you look at previous vids I generally have it on.
Did you have the locker on when the CV poped and perhaps it was all bound up. That broke to easy . What a pain.
Hey Andy, no I didn't have the lockers on, I had literally just installed new CV's 2 days earlier. We were trialing extended ones from Roadsafe, which we have since removed. Curl did one in the same trip and we did about 6 or 7 in a few months so we went back to standard and have had less issues.
@@theoffroadtradies1002 You’ve had plenty of practice changing the then, unfortunately. Love the videos 👍 Cheers mate
@@AndyL940 yep we have changed more than we would have liked to that's for sure. The ranger/bt50 are definitely easier than the Hilux we had to do on a Desert to Dunes tour though. Thank you for watching we appreciate it and the comments too, keep them coming.
What size is the torx bit for the driveshaft please? Also, what nM should they be done up to? Replacing mine next weekend, with the help of my neighbour that is an Army diesel mechanic. Pretty sure the Army doesnt have a lot of Rangers, so want to have the right specs ready 💪🏻😊

The Torx bit is a TX45 mate, tension in NM I didn't use I just went as tight as possible.
