A Brief History of Buffalo, NY - The "Queen City" of New York State
Buffalo is known as the "Queen City" because it is the 2nd biggest city in New York. How did it get so big? Watch to find out why. A big thank you to the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library for providing support on this one #buffalo #localhistory #newyork

Rome, NY - A Brief History (New York State)
Thanks for producing this video. It brings back memories. I was stationed there from July 1983 until September 1985 as a proud member of the 416th Security Police Squadron (Security side of the house). I separated from the Air Force as they would not guarantee me that I would go back overseas at some point if I reenlisted. Nor would they let me cross train into OSI at some point, just put it on paper and I will re-up for 4 or 6 years! Within a month, three fellow SPs got orders to Korea, and wouldn't you know it my last paystub has a notation that the Air Force is looking to recruit/cross train people into OSI 😮. At least my roommate from overseas was able to cross train from SP to the OSI until he retired! Take care everyone and Thank You to all who have served and continue to serve in our US Military!!!
As a child I always thought it was a joke when we went to the state park
My husband is from Rome, and we lived there for 10 years. We were there when Griffin's AFB closed. We were there on 9/11. My husband was in the Air Guard and was with NEADS, watching the skies. We moved away, and when we went back a few years later, the city had changed. It had cleaned up, and looked a lot better.
Worth the trip from anywhere just for the views and fresh air . Nice slow pace!
James Geddes should have been given his due… salt pioneer, road builder, Erie Canal engineer, surveyor, laid out the village of Salina, oversaw the selling of the lots that became Syracuse… he was even an adopted Onondaga. (honestly, Joshua Forman is overrated…)
Sorry that Rome got hit by the tornado :-(
Awesome video man
Allies that deserve infinite domain protection.
After the afb shut down rome became a drug haven and crime ridden city. It should be turned into one big prison.
I thought is was called Ruffalo do to the burning
Wouldn't Suffolk county be bigger then Buffalo and pre 1898 Brooklyn would be
Love this account, its cool to see you cover everything from buffalo ny to rome ny and brooklyn ny as well. it is important in my opinion to try and learn the history of your WHOLE state. keep it up!
Utica is so beautiful ❤
thank you for sharing
7:35 that was General Electric's "Electronics Park" plant. That was where GE built their TV tubes. Lockheed Martin is there now.
Don’t forget to make a vid on Oneida/ Oneida limited silverware or the mansion house Love the vids and hope u and your family are safe and ok from the storm
Rome copper city could be a cool topic too as well as how Rome will bounce back from the storm and rebuild
I was born (1957) and raised in suburban Syracuse during its peak years. SO many fond memories of those days growing up... Heid's hot dogs & coneys in the summer, the DeWitt and Lakeshore Drive-ins, the annual Scottish Games at Onondaga Lake Park, my dad's love of SU football, watching The Magic Toy Shop as a little kid, Mike Price as "Baron Daemon", watching Monster Movie Matinee on Saturday afternoons, my 1st Rock concert in '72 (Grand Funk) and my 2nd in '73 (Jethro Tull) at the War Memorial Aud, hanging out on Marshall St. as a teen eating at Cosmo's Pizza and King David's, attending the summer movie series outside in the SU quad, buying records at Gerber's Music in Shoppingtown Mall, purchasing my 1st serious stereo equipment in '75 at Gordon Electronics on Erie Blvd, dancing at Uncle Sam's, the Lost Horizon, and the Machine Shop, watching bands perform at The Boardwalk in N. Syr, my first 2 yrs of college at OCC, and of course my family, relatives, and best friends. I left Syracuse in 1978 to complete my degree at Buffalo State College, and permanently stayed in Buffalo, 46+ years now. I haven't been back to visit in Syracuse for nearly a decade now, but it will always hold a very warm and special place in my heart. It was such a wonderful time and place to spend my delopmental years! Thank you for this lovely video about the history of my old hometown. 😊❤
Great job with the historic profile of Rome.
Thanks so much for these videos. It's my childhood. Grew up in Turin Towne and we could walk the creek to the lake. My dad ra n the restaurant at Griffis AFB. Wonderful times
Stationed there from Nov. '82-Dec. '85. 8th AF. 416th Bombardment Squadron, 416th Munitions Maintenance Squadron. I worked in the Weapons Storage Area on the far side of the base. Top Secret stuff, back in those days.
Very sad, but cool documentary. NYC reservoir system has a similar story. So much cool history.
7:25 im a volunteer at the museum at port and i just wanna say that our turntable is not the largest in the us but only the largest operating one on the east coast there are others that are much larger
Thanks for the exposure though, and great video!
Jesus loves u
Born and raised in Brooklyn..Williamsburg! The best Neiborhood in all of NYC! Seen what it was like in the 70's the blackout of the summer of 77, the blizzard of 77/78, till what it has become now. I am 4th generation, still living in the same area of Williamsburg.
I lived in Liverpool 1969-1982, graduated from SUNY Potsdam, before enlisting in the USN . I believe my heart would break if I came back and saw what is no longer there... looted down to the bedrock by now. A HEID'S mixed double and a root beer would be nice, though.
great job man! I enjoyed your video!
13:21 no, it’s not. They’re two boroughs of the same city.
Agreed! The phrase I used was merely a throwback to the 1883 poem, 'the new colossus' by emma lazarus, which appears on a plaque inside the statue of liberty
Pronounce Salina as Sa (as in saw) line a
Ok where you from
Geneva and Watkins Glen!
I love the history of Syracuse and I love the scenery and some of the spots that you can get to, but unfortunately, this place is on a steady decline and you can just see it constantly. I just moved out of state and came back after being gone for two years and it is just so nasty, I really hope that the city cleans itself up, but I don’t see that happening sadly.
What does 'hischtory' mean?
I see you have noticed my upstate accent
VERY well done video. Thank you.
I have native American roots ( why I am always called chief )! From grandmother ( great) looking back with the surrounding Italy within myself pioneer homes , mulberry square 💛🧡 1954-1986! Shoe makers 1898- 1905 great grandfather . Moved my great grandmother to Syracuse , new . For being drunk and biting off a (pointing ) finger of a rookie officer . I live lake point drive in Georgia .
Huge huge fan of your videos, you should do one on Columbia County! Maybe the free area that sat between the manors (with Hudson, etc), and the industry that used to exist there. Its very sleepy now but it was quite bustling place 100-250 years ago.
There was little wars fought near the border of Massachusetts - a little invasion by a Massachusetts landowner, with a skirmish in Ancram. The guy later reprimanded by the state government. Ingersoll I am pretty sure was his name.
Copake Iron Works, etc
You should do a video on rfa
They're not Delaware"s. Try Lenni Lenape
My father was in Trinidad at the Prototype Ballistic Missile Early Warning System site at Macqueripe. He participated in the first satellite radio transmission which bounced off a "satellite" and onto Rome AFB, NY. I heard about Rome and later, Griffiss AFB when I was in Tech School for Electronics at Keesler AFB, MS and later stationed at Travis AFB, CA. Thank you for making this video.
I was born and in Brooklyn New York back in 1950. Moved out in 1995.
Was the best assignment in my family's AF career. They don't make them like the Griff anymore. Thank you for keeping it's memory alive.
Love the video. I lived on the Norrhside as a youngster...used to buy fresh bread at DiLauro's for 20 cents a loaf Many fond memories.
Nice job. I have a summer home about 20 miles from Port Jervis.
Good report. ... Well done.
This is one of my favorite food and I did not know where the name came from
My dad (may he rest in peace) took me and my brothers on a fishing trip to Middle Saranac Lake back in the late 60s. It was incredible.
392 South 5th Street is the barber shop in the clip from Coming to America
Yup I remember that, south 5 and keap st,it’s two blocks away from where I , lived at, 330 south 3st by that Labamba grocery store Now I live by northside in Kent & n6 Great to hear from someone from the neighborhood I went to P.S 19
@@RX-8GT you might get a kick out of the French Connection scene where Hackman wears the Santa suit and catches the guy he's chasing. That's Woodhul hospital now. You can see the church steeple as a reference point
brooklyn was dangerous in 80s & 90s. our Diners are gone, entire hoods gentrified, people forcefully evicted for Barclays stadium, and the bagels pizza dont taste the same
That AI crap does NOT help in any way. BTW, just across the river is the homestead of Charles Sanders Peirce
I live half a block away from the Navy yard,in the old black sailors building. We call it the eagle buildings. Cant forget Al capone right from fort greene😂😂
I think I might do a video specifically on the Brooklyn Navy Yard. There is so much interesting and important history there
Do they still sell chow- mien sandwiches?
