I have quite a number of ties; they're one of the few items I can easily buy in RTW (unlike some tall men, whose height is more in the torso, I can wear ties of normal length). Working from home has meant they aren't getting regular use these days, though.

Most of my ties are silk repp ties and solid grenadine tie.

Even though I have been working in tech companies for the last couple of years I have resisted following the trend towards an overly casual wardrobe and am still wearing suits or blazer and trouser combinations. I love my ties, especially the ones with a little more structure such as knitted wool, linen or grenadine silk

The clothes, especially the far too tight suits, are a character story. He's not exactly lost the elegance but he is both in denial and recognition of his contractions and contradictions. His soul is wound so tightly around loss, regret, betrayal, and duty that the clothes reflect his inner state. (We might also add that Ford always designs his suits too slim---as do nearly all of the modern designers. Darn shame.)

I‘ve recently acquired the Barbour Dept(B) Commander Jacket (which I believe is the actual jacket he wore in the movie, the Beacon Sports has no leather collar and the patches seem differently colored) and I absolutely love it!

I hope you'll take my criticism as constructive not personal but your presentation in this video highlights the need for a man to be wearing a tie with a suit.

Everything but the ties would still work!

While Don Draper would certainly be considered a well dressed dapper man today, imo, he would only be considered a slightly above average dressed man in the 1960s. Wearing a well tailored suit and tie may be considered especially dapper in the 21st century, but look around at everyone else in the show, it was simply the standard back then. To me, Roger Sterling is the true style icon on the show. Sporting collar bars and tie pins while most of his peers don’t. He’s also the reason why I personally wear tie pins, collar bars, and four-in-hand knots that I formerly despised.
