My Dad always reminds my brother & I when teaching us valuable life lessons “I’m not raising kids, I’m raising adults” & that’s exactly what these parents did here! If you think you’re “manly enough” to have such a red pilled opinion before you’ve even entered the real world then you’re capable of putting your money where your mouth is! I would have figured something was suspicious when the excuse was that he misplaced his phone. I don't know what the date was on this story, but it's 2025. I guarantee most people have their phones in their pockets most of the time.

My mother would be 71 in May of this year. She passed away in 1998. There is no such thing as "getting over" it - and certainly not after less than a year!!! MIL is a horrible excuse for a human being, and the baby is better off without her as a grandmother!! 😤

My mum is still grieving her mum, and my granny died a 2 weeks before my mum was 7. Especially on mother’s day, as she passed away on mother’s day. My paternal grandmother used to be horrid to my mum and my dad always stuck up for his parents (at least until he realised what was going on and how he was manipulated). Grandma has been nicer and better since my grandpa died- but yeah, why are some MILS just evil?!

So much more is at play here. Guessing OP's aunt was the golden child in that family. Wonder what OP's parents have to say about this nonsense. Where is the baby's father? Does cousin live with aunt? If not, why? How much money are the rest of the family pledging? OP should tell them she is keeping a list of donations and ask what they are able to give to cousin. It is all so much nonsense. OP - ignore them all, make you plans and go study abroad! It will be the best thing you ever did for yourself that NO ONE can take away from you. And NEVER talk to anyone in the family about money, and this may include your parents.

I’m a stay at home wife who does most of the traditional “wife” chores. My husband knows that he is privileged to have me willing to do these things. And if I ever said I didn’t want to do it, we’d find another way. That’s called respect.

I think the point is not about the cake but the fact that hes made his wishes known to his parents, and they dont listen to him. It had probably been going on for sometime and that was probably the last straw. Who cares why he doesnt want it. I think it was considerate of him to say something to them ahead of time. There is no shame in not knowing how to do something because you've not been taught. A strong person acknowledges that & takes action to learn. OP & ex are doing a great job nipping this toxic behavior & teaching son there are consequences to his actions. All children need to be taught how to keep a house, cook, do minor repairs, & budget finances in order to become functioning adults.
