FEI dualbeam FIB cold cathode gauge repair Leybold Inficon
This is the removal and disassembly of Leybold Inficon 850 cold cathod gauge Penning from an FEI xl835 dual beam FIB system. Main chamber pressure reading was not responding so I removed the gauge from the system. Disassembly revealed that the gauge assembly was full of carbon flakes and the cathode was eroded. Cleaned out the flakes and particles and reassembled. Looks like it is working ok now.

This also describes the procedure to start the source after an FEG module exchange and includes the procedure for coulomb tube conditioning. This procedure must be followed after an FEG module exchange and before column alignment can begin.

Sulfur Hexaflouride (SF6) is an electrical insulating gas that is used in the electron columns of some SEMs (Scanning Electron Microscopes). Over time the gas slowly leaks out and the SEM controlling software (xP) will show an error. This video shows how you can correct the error and get the SEM back up and running.

Soaking tube in Micro-90 overnight and then sonicating helps with removing polymer deposits. Works for refurbishing CCIG sensors from either Leybold or Varian
@@Beamsys I just bead blast mine. Put some protective tape over the flange to protect that.
Excellent instructions! One error, the extractor is actually a suppressor, where LMIS was mounted.

We don't reclaim the SF6 since it's such a small amount of gas lost.
Hi Gary, For the large volume of SF6 in our TEM we can compress the SF6 back into the bottle and save it for refill. It requires an oilless compressor to prevent contamination. The challenge is having the correct hardware to adapt the instrument to the compressor. Kevin

Hi, can you help with problem of stigmator? We have problem with stigmator (or else). See the video th-cam.com/video/F7VEA0V_dTM/w-d-xo.html How can it correct? From the very beginning after the assembly, there is a problem with the stigmator (deflector). On the left side of the picture is all vague. Also, the problem manifests itself during etching. Etching horizontally is intermittent. It helps only to shift the image to the left by the deflector, so that this zone will leave the screen. But in this case, the etching becomes less productive. And problems with intermittent etching is not solved. Especially well the difference is visible in the video, which shows the setting stigmator. The image on the left is floating. th-cam.com/video/F7VEA0V_dTM/w-d-xo.html Is one pole stigmator dead? Or am I doing something wrong? Can the output aperture of the column become dirty? Is it possible to reach the stigmator only by dismantling the entire column?
Interesting, is it the purity of the LMIS that you need to even keep it from being out in air too long?
Since the the whole source end is going back into high vacuum it's best to limit the time you spend at atmosphere, that way you keep the dust and moisture to a minimum.
Good vedio bt Sir you didn't show the feeder guage how much pressure was there i think u fill in C.B compartment. Around 8 years i was in Sf6 emergency group in any Substation alaram there we refill sf6.was a good job.
Can pt will be replaced to W(CO)6?
Yes. The temperture will need to be adjusted to 50 degrees C. Deposition parameters will also need to be changed. Dwell .2, Overlap -50%. Increase beam current to ~40pA/square um for large patterns. Kevin

Great video! Can you also do a tutorial on the fine alignments of the GIS, so it would be at correct height (and it wouldn't block the view during scanning), inserted at a reasonable speed (adjustment of the gas valves)?

+yustenite Hi Thanks for the comment. I buy the complete rebuilt FEG module from FEI (p/n . It is expensive but reliability and lifetime is good (>2 years). I know you can rebuild the FEG by just replacing the source like you mention. I would like to know the technique for doing that. Maybe someone with experience can comment and enlighten us.
