Shade Tree Adventures
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 28 ก.พ. 2013
A "Shade Tree Mechanic" is someone who works on cars in their back yard, under a shade tree. Shade tree refers to someone who does something in their spare time. They may or may not be good at what they do but they generally have a passion for for it. I'm a shade tree mechanic, dirt bike racer, luthier, and now, I'm also a Shade Tree TH-camr! I hope you enjoy the content.

C55 action. It was a great day for a hare scramble. The course was great. Dirt was perfect. Trust me, I hit it enough to know! Lap 1 was without incident. Laps 2 and 3 were another story. If you want to see an old man beating up on the dirt, watch the entire video. I can't count how many times I went down. But, I still had a blast!

The bolt from hell even my M18 impact couldn’t get it off it took me and my brother with a breaker bar to snap it off
I am 100% living this right now. Hoping for victory soon, before I run out of tools.

I've been wanting to ride there, but the website says temporarily closed the past few times ive looked. Is that right, if so any idea when it's opening back up? Really enjoy your vids, got me thinking about doing a scramble. Thanks!
@@jstacy1955 I have no idea about the trails being closed. I would just keep an eye on their website. They do a pretty good job of keeping it updated. There's nothing like a hair scramble. As long as you keep it all in perspective and don't push too hard. I always recommend starting out like a trail ride and increase your speed as you get more comfortable. Thanks for watching!
@bigdsshadetree338 thank you sir!

Thanks for watching!
I recently bought a Milwaukee 2967 1/2” impact gun and a heavy mass 19mm impact socket made for this purpose. Came off in less than 3 seconds. In our shop before this socket was available, we would use a crank pulley holder tool, then a Snap-on breaker bar with a Jack handle for leverage. A few times it actually took 2 guys (over 6-footer) to break the crank bolt loose.
Ingersoll special socket and DeWalt DCF899 also takes them off in the blink of an eye
@@andrewwmacfadyen6958 Bring it on over. I'll introduce you my 2003 rusty element. :)
Rode out there to ride this place as Im about an hour away and they closed it 3 days before 4th of July weekend for logging. Never made any posts about it which kind of sucked. Hoping to go back again at some point to actually try it as it looks awesome!

Love the vintage yellow Yamaha look. This is what they looked like in the 80's when I started! had a 1983 YZ 80!!!
BTW, amazing you broke off the entire lever....with full wrap around guards no less! I figured you had just snapped a lever like everyone does, but you lost EVERYTHING!
It's a special talent I have! Thanks for watching!
First time watching. Just subbed.....really enjoyed the commentary!!! Had me laughing. I'm 56 and hopefully doing my first hare scramble this year. Been riding since 6 yrs old but was out of the dirt for nearly 20 years and just now getting back into it. Bought a new 2023 KTM SX-F 350 as I am getting back into MX tracks as well. This trail looked really nice and enjoyable to ride.
Thanks for watching! I've been riding since I was a youngster. Never raced until about 10 years ago. I can't believe I missed out on all those years of fun!

What are the torque specs to put it back
181 ft/lbs, seems like more than necessary to me.
I am surprised this fellow borrowed a neighbor's SK breaker bar. If he had broken that it would have been expensive to replace, You can;'t depend on Sk warranty any more, they are made in China now. The solution is a high grade impact gun. I bit the bullet and bought a Milwaukee 1/2" impact gun that is rated at 1400 ft-lbs of torque. I also used the lysle 19mm part # 77080 socket. That combination took that bolt off in less than 10 seconds of hammering. Please don't use heat. After that you may need to replace the crank seal.
My neighbor and I loan tools to each other all the time. We understand the risk. I dodged the bullet with the heat. The car now has almost 100,000 mi on this timing belt replacement, no oil leaks.
Great riding... Love the YZ. colors
