Right decision for sure. Those conditions were no joke but thrilling to watch from a spectator view
That's pretty crazy to have crashes like that, I am glad everyone is ok and I'm sure the team will bounce back!
Sympathetic video
That’s crazy, like a football team only having one goalkeeper.
Good call guys! Glad Billy is ok.
Smart choice. I'd be curious to hear if the added speed of the T-foils is making the mark roundings tougher because of higher g-forces, especially given how short the courses are.
"hospital pass"...... nicely put!
Its turning yachting into (( go cart )) yacht carting and the rules need to address this.
Just wondering why the boats have kept the old non foiling bows. Coming off the foils, the bows should be an optimal shape to at least minimize stuffing. Why not more bow rocker?
Not sure that would actually be meaningful. It's one thing for an IMOCA to have rocker to prevent it from nosediving into the next wave, but another for a F50 Cat to be torpedoing into the water when dropping off the foils. The rocker and in creased buoyancy may help some, but it will probably be the difference between a huge crash and a very large crash.
@d.j.vanderschoot3717 That is a good observation, exampling the IMOCA's. Though, they changed design direction because of the addition of foils. But these boats don't appear, at least to the layman, to have changed from the non foiling boats. Cheers
So when does the video get to the topic of the title?
I hope in Sydney you stick it to those Americans , cheers from a Commonwealth brother .
tough day - hope all turns out well - only way now is up ! go get em!
Are these masthead cams new? That view is awesome for the tight mark roundings. More, please!
Thanks for the great video explaining the situation. A tough day for the team (esp Billy) and fans but let’s assume our worst event is behind us and now sail confidently into the top three over coming events.
Thanks for sharing this guys, it provides much more insight into the decision making process. Easy to be an armchair quarterback but I feel that you made absolutely the right call. It’s no reflection on anyone’s ability but putting someone new into a critical position in challenging conditions puts the crew at risk and has the potential for negative training. So many ways it could have gone wrong for possibly little gain. A tough call, but looking at the big picture is what leadership is all about.
Thanks for sharing your experience of a bad day. That takes guts. Speedy recovery, Billy!
Thank god for all the protection your team wears. Phew ...
A rough weekend to say the least. Canada is rooting for you. On to the next one. Go Canada!
No idea they were that fast.
Italian boat: Mama mia itsa ferry! US boat: Don't mess with the boats, CHARGE!! Swiss boat: Just don't get involved. British boat: Arrest them for possible speech infractions!

Welcome to the team Giles 🙌
Great to meet you, Giles! Welcome `home` and enjoy your time on Spirit! We hope Phil is still welcome around the team since he is an honourary Canadian now. He and his pet Beaver, that is!
Great tour. What an amazing boat.
Congratulations and looking forwards to the next season!!
No longer Canada SailGP Team? The country name is replaced with a name that is inspired by the Canadian spirit. What inspires the Canadian spirit in me is having Canada in the team’s name. If that is a compromise we have to make to keep the team then I am for it. I am just so glad we still have a SailGP team we can call Canadian even if Canada is not in the name. Good luck NorthStars! Go NorthStars Go! I still like Go Canada Go better.
I’m very glad to see the future of Team Canada is more secure and certainly like the new branding, but I am sad to see Phil Robertson replaced. He brought a lot of energy and wit to the team and is likely a major part of Canada’s popularity in the league. A lot of pressure now on Giles Scott to deliver!
Don’t get me wrong, I do like the new rebranding team name but I can help think back to the 1970s when Northstars were a cheap brand of running shoes (Canadian company I think ) that your parents bought you when they didn’t want to splurge on adidas or pumas … most folks obviously won’t remember them but unfortunately I do. Either way. Will be rooting for this team big time and just extremely happy Canada is still part of this wonderful and entertaining series!
❤🔥
So you're not team Canada anymore?
Still team Canada, but the new name is NorthStar, just like the black foils are team New-Zealand.
I think Johnny Depp should do another movie using the Pirates of the Caribbean theme but introducing through a time warp the sale GP catamarans. I’m trying to explain to the sailors/pirates of yesteryear about GPS, satellites, Internet texting, let alone the techniques of foiling. And then get the helmsmen from Johnny Depp’s pirate ship onto the Helm of an American 50 yacht doing 60 kn I picture the helmsman with his hair streaming back with a look of absolute glee on his face I’m thinking of crinkly hair something similar to the hair on the face on the Starbucks coffee cup, but a little bit shorter. Maybe a character likeDoc in back to the future
