I saw many comments said that he is a SS. In reality he is a high rank german soldier, yes he fight for the nazis army but more for his homeland. The SS instead was an elite group of soldier made for hunting jew and put them in concentrations camp's or kill them. He's a nazi yes, but he's not an SS so theoretically he dont even ever seen a concentration camp's. He's politically choice are aniway wrong and I am not agree with that. Am I right or no? When I whatch the anime I understand that he's not an SS. Either way is a fantastic charachter. Sorry for the bad english
