🏛️ the 1900-year-old Roman Wall at London's Tower Hill

At London's Historic Tower Hill Tube Station just off the City of London where many tourists come to explore the Roman remains of the city of 'Londinium' above ground, but did you know that you can start your tour of Roman London from inside the station itself? At the far eastern end of the Westbound Platform 1, there is a tiny remnant of the Original London Roman wall that was built back in th...

    I do wonder why people would have a problem with speaking English and integrating. Sadly, the disrespect for the country in which these people live knows no bounds.

    • @AchyutChaudhary
      @AchyutChaudhary 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The main thing being is that it's extremely likely that everyone knows fluent English already because all 🇬🇧British Punjabis have migrated either from 🇮🇳India, 🇵🇰Pakistan, 🇦🇫Afghanistan or 🇰🇪Kenya - which were all 🇬🇧English colonies/ protectorates for centuries & fun fact: 🇮🇳India has more English speakers than the entire populations of 🇬🇧Britain, 🇮🇪Ireland, 🇨🇦Canada, 🇦🇺Australia & 🇳🇿New Zealand combined! So based on these facts, I assume TfL, Crossrail & DfT have added Punjabi signs mainly to symbolise the area's unique identity which it is world-famous for, rather than help them find their way around (as it's just the Station name that's in the Gurmukhi script, not any Wayfinding signs for them to assist with, nor any station announcements in Punjabi!)

    • @richardwills-woodward
      @richardwills-woodward 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AchyutChaudhary TFL have cynically applied this to show how non-British it is and have done it with pride. The area is a slum, and that is due to not observing nor taking on British standards as well as their own. You cannot live under your own culture and laws as they are seen, and then expect to be respected or absorbed by the host population. These communities preside over the decline of gardens, of architectural beauty which degrades as they move in, of poor food standards and presentation, the list goes on. This area has turned aesthetically into the third world but with clean running water, better housing and proper sewerage systems. In what way should this be celebrated? What do they bring that improves on the standard of living that was in this area prior?

    Great tour of the station. A nice upgrade. I've often stopped at this station when visiting the UK and taking the Heathrow Connect from the airport to Paddington. It's great that the Punjab script was added to all the signs here, it makes it really distinctive. Nice video man. Thanks.

    Cool vid - any idea what will be destined for the old building, bar being a fire escape? I hope it gets a good use, something like a café or a community centre. Either way, it'll be a shame if it just sat there, or worse still, gets demolished!

    I was there a few years ago because I was invited to a restaurant. First thing I noticed at the train station was the strange southall sign. Also was not hard to notice the crap in the streets, and rats were running. Total stench and overcrowded buses. It was the only one and I hope it was the last time I had to go there. I do not recommend. if you are from europe, southall may seem to you as one of afghanistan's cities.

  • @christinaburton9297
    @christinaburton9297 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I object to the signs in Punjabi. I love Southall, but whilst we should be welcoming everyone we should be insisting on integration with everyone learning English. Separatism and allowing people not to have to learn marginalises them and condemns them to exclusion and low paid work. It means they cannot fully help their children with homework and parentifies them by having to be their parents' voice in administrative and medical matters . Diversity equals exclusion. Multinationalism with a common goal of inclusion in the mainstream means a happy, diverse but blended and highly productive society.

    Lovely and interesting video. The southernmost platform has very occasional trains on the old branch-line to Brentford; I believe there is a campaign to get regular trains on this line. Soon after leaving Southall station, the branch-line runs under the Grand Union Canal plus Windmill Lane, through a three-level bridge designed by Brunel himself.

The truth is, people of my generation didn’t want what has happened. (I have to be careful or the algorithm will c - a - n - c - e - l this post.) It’s not mentioned now of course, but the trade unions held marches through town centres protesting about “what was happening”. They were quickly closed down, even though in those days the unions seemed to have ultimate power. And of course no one talks about the consequences even now. Housing shortages, the time when virtually every young couple could afford a mortgaged property has long gone. Etc etc. I can - again - assure you, people of my generation didn’t want what happened.
