I've lived and worked in Bournemouth all my life and I;m 50yrs old now. 21 years ago things started to change, and not for the better. Hordes of immigrants came in, ALOT of Turkish, Polish and middle eastern. I remember my girlfriend at the time not liking the way these men stared at her without any sense of respect. That was first thing that irked me. Then I began to notice my local shops changing from English speaking and friendly to Polish or Turkish with poor english skills and no sense of friendly-ness or any conversation, which was what I was used to. Turkish barbers and tacky vape shops are now everywhere when I used to visit a Barber...English guy....he's gone. Alot more litter began to appear and the last big change is weed is smoked openly EVERYWHERE and no-one cares about it. People wear hoodies wether its dark or when its sunny....why?? It's a threatening way to look. Anyway...there you go, from the horses mouth. I don't care if I'm called a racist, because thats so easy and lazy to do. Its not being racist its just wanting people that come here to ENHANCE our culture and not DISRESPECT it. Also, learn the language. Unfortunately the governement will let anyone in, it seems. Demographically it's turned into a mini London, I feel like a minority sometimes. I was verbally abused by a middle eastern young man this summer when I was sat on a bench on my lunch break. He wanted me to react but wisely I chose not to. Nice bunch.

My aunt had cancer that affected her bone marrow, resulting in an insufficient production of blood cells. She chose not to treat the cancer itself, but to manage the symptoms by having regular transfusions. It reached the pint where she wanted to be allowed to die. However, she was not given palliative care (which is basically not feeding the person or doing anything to prolong their life, merely giving pain medication to make their passage more comfortable) because the multidisciplinary team who assessed her came to the conclusion that her decision wasn't rational as she had depression, which affected her judgement. That was in 2021. She passed in January 2024, by which point it was clear that she was on her way out. My mother (who had power of attorney for my aunt and was also the one who had the authority to make care decisions for her) contacted my aunt's hematologist to inform him that she no longer wanted my aunt to continue to receive transfusions. He was fine with that. However, the doctor at her residential home did not agree, even though he could not gainsay my mother's decision. All the nurses and care aides who had regular contact with my aunt agreed with my mother's decision, as I did. It was clear that she was getting weaker and no longer had any drive to live. And she died about a week or two after receiving her last blood transfusion. I was told by one of the hospital nurses at the daycare where my aunt received her transfusions that the doctor at my aunt's home was probably reluctant for my aunt to receive end of life care because of the amount of paperwork required to authorize it! In this gentleman's case...if he had his faculties and had the legal right to make medical decisions for himself, but his wishes were not respected by the care staff...then his best bet would have been to speak to the doctor. And if this was not enough, to get someone to advocate for him so that a multidisciplinary team could assess him. However, if he did not have the authority to make decisions for himself, then that would be down to the person who had that authority, which might be a family member.

Healthy debate and mutual respect is surely better, but what do I know. I appreciate I was outspoken and maybe provocative but I don't believe I was rude. I would have expected a mixture of diverse reactions and opinions but I'm surprised that most of the opinions and reactions so far are broadly similar and in disagreement.
