I used to blog; now I want to tell my stories with my own voice. Megan Tries Antarctica, Part 26: Saying Goodbye
In Part 26, I quickly recap the morning's cruise and then take you around for the final views of Antarctica as we head north. The scenery was unbelievable for these last couple hours, with a dramatic sky, rugged mountains, and chiseled icebergs. With air so clean, you can see every detail of mountains that are probably 100 miles away. I admit, I cried a little as I did my laps and looked for the last time at this amazing place.

You climbed higher than I did, at Danco. Spent half our time kayaking there and only was on shore for an hour or so, near the waterline - plenty of penguin action along their coastal highways. Glad you have a continental landing ahead!
I'm so glad I hiked as high as I did. What a view! And best penguin day so far, for sure. Bummed that our kayaking didn't work out, though. With all those icebergs, it would have been stunning. I hope your kayaking time was amazing there!

Yes! Stinging eyes and skin when I stayed out too long. As a California girl, I'd never felt that kind of cold before. But it's cool to experience the legit weather of Antarctica...just for one day.

Was it your coldest day, yet? And no fur seals? There were loads when we visited last March, there on Deception Island. I promise I was not trying to DECEIVE you with that intel. Bravo on the plunge!
Haha! No fur seals for me, unfortunately. Only the judgy penguins shaking their heads at how fast I got out of that water. The wind definitely made it feel like the coldest day so far.
Megan, I am in the Mojave -- the opposite. I just do not love it cold; not envious. But this is intriguing that anyone is on antarctica by now.
I think I do better in the heat too, actually. Antarctica was a crazy destination for a warm-weather girl like me to choose, but it is so incredible! I'm glad I braved the cold.
Good recap! You'll love Deception Island - wildlife everywhere. Fur Seals, birds, penguins. Hike up the crescent cliff to see the black sand beach below. SUPER windy, but worth the trek. Crazy how warm the water gets along the beach. Have fun!
