Winter Fly Fishing Tactics for Brushy Creek and Beyond
Our home water can be tricky at any time of year, but the wintertime fishing on Brushy Creek can be particularly challenging. That being said, the winter months can provide some of the finest dry fly fishing opportunities of the year! Waiting until spring to fish our local rivers is a mistake you don’t want to be guilty of making! You may very well miss out on some of the best fishing of the year!
This presentation will teach you how to select the proper flies and tackle for warmwater fishing during our cooler months. Chris will also walk you through how to properly “pick your days” during the winter season and will discuss a wide variety of presentation techniques for bass and panfish as well.

McKittrick's Texas Tickler (Olive)
มุมมอง 1.5K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
On one of his yearly visits to Texas, our friend and @montanaflycompany fly designer, Jake asked us, "If you could have one new fly designed, what would it be?" Our answer was a fly that 1) could get down, 2) would have lots of motion, and 3) would be big enough for carp but small enough for Rio Grande Cichlids. From there, McKittrick's Texas Tickler was born! This thing is nothing but motion u...

Tying Galloup's Articulated Fathead (Tan)
มุมมอง 2983 หลายเดือนก่อน
Perhaps one of the most underrated big game freshwater streamers in our fly bin, Kelly Galloup's Articulated Fat Head is killer for trout, bass, and gar. The articulation and marabou give this pattern loads of movement, while the deer hair head pushes water and calls monsters out of the deep. Hook (lead): Gamakatsu B10S #4 Hook (tail): Gamakatsu L11S-3H #4 Thread: Veevus 8/0, Tan Body: Strung M...
Fish Behavior (Rio Grande Cutthroat Trout)
มุมมอง 1745 หลายเดือนก่อน
The best to increase your success rate while fly fishing is often to simply stop and observe fish behavior, BEFORE making your first cast. Slow down and note rising, territorial, or holding behaviors of fish, before making your initial presentation, and you may very well put more fish in the net as a result!
How to Tie a Double Surgeon's Loop

Practice attaching Tippet to Leader with the Double Surgeon's Loop - one of the most commonly used knots for fly fishing. Remember, always wet your knot before tightening!
How to Tie a Non-Slip Mono Loop
มุมมอง 5146 หลายเดือนก่อน
We teach beginner fly anglers how to use the Hemostat Clinch Knot to attach their flies, because we want to reduce as much frustration and barrier to entry as possible for those just learning to fly fish. However, for those who feel ready for the next challenge, we recommend attaching your flies with a Non-Slip Mono Loop, aka "Lefty’s Loop." The Loop Knot is stronger than a Clinch, which means ...
How to Tie a Hemostat Clinch Knot
มุมมอง 2.2K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Clinch Knot is a classic and versatile fly fishing knot, perfect for beginners, and it can be made even easier with the use of a pair of hemostats! This knot is most commonly used for attaching flies to tippet, but it can also be used for attaching a dropper fly to the hook of an attractor or top water fly. This knot is also good for Tenkara anglers and can be used to connect tippet to a Te...

Good video! Lots of good information.
Purist, smurist! Ukiyo for the win!
Good video with lots of information. Time to tie up a few flys and hit the water. Looking forward to your next video
Appreciate your passion and knowledge!
Missed the live sesh thanks so much for this. With all the hype on the guad this year its nice to hit my local for bass
Awesome presentation! Learned so much! Thank you so much for doing these!
Don't understand... for disc drags, how does these contained washers interact with the spinning spool?
Great video but i dont like that they don’t continue the high and dry line😢
Great presentation and what looks like a "gonna get eaten" fly. Going to tie some and try them down here in southern Louisiana!
you did say that you have them in store
Looks amazing!
Paranoid wraps!!😂 I suffer from those as well! Great fly, thanks for the great video!!
Every experience here just leads you to the water. Love this place. Only place I go to for fly anything.
Awesome information! Not sure if you’re taking requests, but a video on cold weather fishing strategies (other than trout) would be great for those of us who want to hit the rivers and creeks in December-February.
Great video with lots of information, thanks
Another good video packed with information. Looking forward to your next video, Chris.
Good work, Chris. One theory that I've had for a while is that, besides imitating fish (sucker, trout) eggs, artificial eggs on the Guadalupe do a pretty credible job of being ringers for the Purina Trout Chow the fish are fed in the hatchery and over the summer on our river.
Thank you so much for the lesson. Btw, do you have a recommendation for a guide to go out with to fish for redfish around Baytown. My son moved down there from Oregon for a promotion in his work. My wife and I will be visiting about 4x a year. Thanks
wonderful content
This information was awesome! I really enjoyed learning about the resources, and especially how the fish potentially respond to different weather conditions and patterns. Thanks for the great content!
Thanks for listening!
What a fantastic quick and effective way to tie main and dropped fly. Thank you!
I have been hearing that this is a really good fly.
Thanks. Sorry I had to miss last night’s presentation.
Great how to video. And thanks for adding me to yesterday’s seminar. ✌️
This fly is a killer! And don't feel like you have to stick with those earthy foam colors. I've caught fish with yellow and tan foam, black and purple, and orange and green! ... and with white legs, striped legs and orange legs! Flush cut works best in slow moving and slick water. Keep the hackle untrimmed and gunked up in faster pocket water. Drop 18 - 24 inches of tippet off the bend and add your favorite dropper ... DOUBLE KILLER!
The last best place in the lower 48. 9:30 - 10:20 is some of the best live action outdoor filming I have seen. Blessings ... John 4:13-1
Literally what I said! Amazing footage!!
Very interesting and educational. Thanks. If you are looking for subjects for your videos I would love to see your opinion for a Hill country Fly Box. What would be your essential flies to have to fish the creeks and rivers of the Texas hill country
That was a beautifully done presentation. There are places such as this that should have no name, lest they be "loved to death". I enjoy different types of trout fishing. You treated this kind in the manner that it should be treated. Your assessment of the 'Living Magic' of a place is well understood.....by some.
Great tutorial Chris. Been looking for a popper to tie as a newbie, I think I found it.
Can't wait to try this fly. Been looking for an easy popper to tie. Please leave this up on you tube. It's informative and entertaining unlike a lot of fly tying tutorials that are boring this is nice for a change of pace.
Great Fly Chris! Thanks for sharing 👍
Keep them coming I am learning a lot from your videos. Can't wait to take the intro class
That intro class is the single best thing I've done for fly fishing. It's helped me tremendously. After a few tweaks in just a few minutes, I added several yards to my cast.
Great video and a knot I need to practice and use thank you
Number one knot besides the Albright knot that I use
Great vid and visual. I use the snap hooks for bigger nymphs and streamers, leeches etc.. But not ideal for 14 or smaller due to the hook eye size. Will be using this whenever needed. First video that showed it clearly for me. Thanx!
Love it thank you!
I was given a furled line. You hardly mention these. Is a furled line not great for a beginner?
Furled lines are often the most comfortable to cast, but the least practical for most of our anglers and situations. Furled lines generally do not sink, making it difficult to reach the depths required for much of our fishing. Additionally they can be easily snagged or cut, requiring more frequent replacement.
Solid OG guide technique!
One of the best videos of any knot I've seen. You've just made my fly fishing a lot more rewarding and fun. Thank you!
High praise, thank you!
Good info as always. Interesting comments on the Amago and Hane. I came to prefer the Ito over the Amago as well. It seemed just as capable and I like casting the Ito at both lengths and it handled a 12” sunfish I caught just fine. My Hane is the only one of my Tenkara rods I’ve broken and I’ve broken it twice but once was slipping and falling on a slick and muddy bank and another time I broke it against a tree.
Awesome tip. Great video! Would love to see more of these.
We have more on the way!
nice
Excellent idea, super simple, right up my alley! Thank you for sharing Chris. 👍😀
Great fly - Connor Ireland
Great and full of good info thank you Please keep it so I can watch again later for more review. I wish you wouldn't have taken down the one on Rio Cichlids I could have watched it several times. Thank you for the info.
Glad you enjoyed it! This class will remain on our cannel permanently, unless an update is required.
fantastic
Cool stuff - Connor Ireland
can you use squirle for this fly ?
The possum is a stiffer fiber, which holds the shape of the profile best and gives the proper color, but you could substitute with Pine Squirrel in a pinch. We have plenty of custom dyed Australian Possum available through the fly shop. You can call to order any time!
Great looking fly. Will be tying this one for sure!
Had planned to join live, but had a conflict. Glad to be able to watch it later. Well done.
