As Viola Davis's character says on the Eat Pray Love movie, "having a kid(s) is like getting a tattoo on your face, you kinda need to be committed! I don't think there's a universal 'profound' reason for either wanting or not wanting. I just think there's YOUR reason that needs to be respected by the people in your life who know and love you. When I think about my reasons for wanting kids they always sound selfish to me because the bottom line is always about me. I can't put it on these unborn humans so I can't really say it's for them in any way and I'm fine with my 'selfish' reasons because I'm aware of them thus aware of the responsibility that comes with that. I love that you've prompted us to revisit this conversation with ourselves and see if our reasons still stand or things have changed. At the end of the day though I believe your reason is your reason and it needs to be respected.

I look at my older cousin as a standard. She just had a new born with her new husband they are both in their 40s but they each individually have established careers and make 100k plus a year. Together they are basically rich so they have all the resources take care of their new born. They both have kids from past relationships but all but one of those kids are already adults and my cousins two older daughters help take care of the new born. Now I would not want a kid once I get in my 40s but I don’t want kids now unless I’m making well over 6 figures

Your views on not wanting to have kids are absolutely valid💙. My family knows me as someone who doesn’t want to have kids. I haven’t come to a good enough reason why I’d want them. So, for now it remains an unknown.
