When filling out the second form after getting the ARN number on the vfs portal, it's says to sign there, so do I just submit the application and then print it all out so I can sign it, and then do I send it with the rest of the documents on the checklist?
What passport number do I write in places where it just says passport number but doesn't specifically state which passport Indian or US

Checklist you can use any pen. You can write Indian passport number. Yes it’s applicant address.

Yes u can edit on form If it’s a minor mistake.

It’s the same procedure for minors also. Pl check the check list as they have extra notary documents
i have a few queries, if someone’s last name and first name has changed then what signature should i use on my application?? my new signature or as in indian passport?? because us passport has different signature, also it says renunciation certificate will have your name as in indian passport but when i print out my certificate it has my new name and i filled all the details in renunciation certificate as they ask, should i worry about this or just send the documents as it is filled the way they ask to fill, do we have to sign the bottom of the checklist ?? and fill information on all pages like name, passport number, email and phone ?? i guess u forgot to mention that.
Recently Consulate is issuing separate renunciation certificate based on your details so no worry’s about the filled renunciation certificate. The consulate issued certificate will not have ur signature, it’s only the statement saying u have surrendered Indian citizenship with their stamp & sign.
For check list u can just write ur name.

Hello there. I am in the same situation. I changed my name during the naturalization process. I used my us passport information to fill up vfs form, and the system automatically generated a renunciation form with a new name. I am going to send a name change court order in the package. Do you think this is enough? Please suggest me. Thank you
I have a question, for address proof for minor residing with parents, it says " adress proof copy notarized undertaking from them with one of the copies of adress proof " do i have to notarized it officially "
For minors notary is not required for address proof as parents names are on passport.
Hi, Thank you for the informative video. I have a question about the VFS checklist. The top of each page of the checklist asks to enter Applicant name, Email address, Passport number and Phone number. Do I have to provide my Indian passport number or the US passport number here? Hi, I have a question. We may get a call for the oath ceremony in November, 2023 hopefully. Our Indian Passports would expire in December, 2023. Can we apply for the OCI with expired Indian Passports?
Yes.
@@indianvisaociswara3710 Suppose, we get a call for the oath ceremony in Canada in January, 2024, but our indian passport would have expired in December, 2023, shall we be able apply for OCI? Almost, all others opine that our indian passport should have a validity of 6 months when we apply for OCI. Hence, there is a confusion.

What is the date of naturalization for minor kids
It’s the date on citizenship certificate of minor. If minor don’t have certificate & u are using parents certificates than the date on it.

If ur son has his own citizenship certificate based on it you can do surrendering Indian citizenship once he gets his US passport if not parents citizenship copy’s can be used . follow the checklist for minor applicant.
Hello mam, actually I forgot to surrender my Indian passport after becoming u.s citizenship. It’s going to be one year since I became the u.s citizen. Will it cause any problems for not surrendering the passport?

Hello , Thanks for the video, its helpful. I am still confused about the passport stamp thing, as i have my passport visa stamped a few times and still not expired. Stamp here is the one says -“passport cancelled due to acquiring other country citizenship “

I have an another question about the shipping . vfs provides FedEx shipping, i understand we can have a shipping label to send them the documents and will be able to track it after the shipment. What about the return, how do we know when they send it our renunciation certificate back to us? Are they going to provide a tracking number along with their return FedEx shipment? Will they email us the tracking number? Do we also need to keep an empty envelop along with our documents while shipping it? Also, the FedEx needs our signature to deliver the return certificate? What passport number you gave? Is it US passport number or Indian Passport number ? Appreciate your response . Thanks.
There is a discrepancy of how VFS web application is setup vs instruction for renunciation certificate. The web portal's "Add New Customer" screen asks to provide particulars from US passport - passport number, expiration date etc.. The name portion on that same screen instructs to input name as in passport but does not indicate which passport - whether US or Indian. Assuming information source needs to be consistent, the name should also be as in US passport. At the end of the application after payment of fees, the confirmation email attaches the renunciation certificate which is system generated. If someone had their name legally changed as part of US citizenship process and their US passport would bear that changed name, then this renunciation certificate will also reflect the new name as it gets the name from aforementioned "Add New Customer" screen. However, the document checklist indicates that the renunciation certificate will reflect the name as it appears on Indian passport. This is clearly a discrepancy. What should be the course of action in this case?
Renunciation certificate the name will be as per -Indian passport as the Indian passport is surrendered & the certificate is proof of it.

Do we need to provide color print out of documents like Driving License for Address, Passport Information page etc? Is it ok if we just send the black and white print out copies of these documents?
Black & white copy is fine.
If they just read these comments they’ll have an idea how to prepare a checklist to avoid confusion. High school dropout can prepare a better checklist than these dumb VFS people. The language and format they’re using is third class.

I have a quick question, when filling out the renunciation certificate online, not all the information is displayed. Essentially what i mean is for certain columns in the form, for example like address : it can only hold so much information. After entering the information and when i try to print it out, the information is kind of cut off. Is it normal, is it acceptable? Do i need to use any specific software to fill out the form? Can i print it out and fill it by hand?

I haven’t finished it. The best strategy would be to call VFS and confirm with them. They provide 5 min free counselling.
On renunciation form where it states DO YOU HAVE MINOR CHILDREN WHO ARE/WERE CITIZEN OF INDIA - YES/NO should I answer yes even if my child is still in India (waiting for visa) and having Indian passport
I think you can mention the names. You are the applicant & giving your family details on form.

Hi Swara, My Indian passport expired in 2019 and I got naturalized in 2021. I need to send “affidavit of naturalization after expiry of Indian passport.” Do you have a template for this affidavit (I didn’t find on VFS portal) or I can write in simple words in Wordpad and get it Notarized?
Hi. I don’t have the template. You can write a letter for reasons for gap or reason for not renewing the Passport & notarize it.

The main thing is we didn't renew even though it expired in 2019, because we have been living in US for couple of years and there was no need to renew, instead getting US passport seemed fair thought. Do you think this is valid reason and acceptable ?
You can mention you were waiting for citizenship or in the process of naturalization & had no travel plans.

Yes. Print out the application form, paste photo in the photo box & sign on first page(below photo) & on 2nd page.

On third page of checklist it says Don't forget to enclose the application receipt . I am confused which document is that. Is it the one which comes last along with the emailed renunciation certificate

Thank you very much for providing the details of applying for the renunciation of Indian citizenship very clearly. I have one question though. Before we go to the VFS portal we have to go to the Passport Seva website. While trying to fill in the information on that website it is asking details of the Indian Passport on the first form. I do not have the passport as I was naturalized more than fifty years ago. I do not know what happened to it.Those fields are mandatory and I do not know the information. It will not let me go any further. Can you kindly guide me what to do in that situation?I
If passport is lost & you don’t have copy of it you can mention zeros for passport number & approximate date of issue & expiry of the passport. In such case checklist for renunciation under lost passport category to be followed for the list of documents. You can write a letter stating you don’t have passport or it’s copy.
Thank You the video, I have a question. Do we need to Notarize or sign on photocopies of Documents (State ID photocopy, Indian Passport photocopies, US passport Photocopies, Naturalization Photocopy). Do we need to do sign or notary on these specific document’s photocopies ? Self attest is not written on the checklist for the documents i mentioned above. But someone told me to get notary done, thats why i was kinda confused. I would really appreciate your help, thank you again. 🙏🏻
Self attestation or notary is not required for the copies.

hey Swara, would you be able to tell me what is the consent letter while we send the documents to VFS. I have sent all the documents to VFS and they sent me an email that signature is missing on the second page of consent letter . I dont seem to remember what was the consent letter ..
Also in VFS portal after submitting your application it will ask you do check mark the document right so in that document it will also ask for applicant signature.do we have to put signature there or is it ok to submit without signature.because there is no option to sign over the computer or iPad.please comment on this
If your question is about checklist, you have to print out the checklist, check mark the boxes & fill up the top part.

If the passport is expired before you got your naturalization certificate you need to attach affidavit of naturalization after the expiry of Indian passport document. For more details you can check the checklist. If the Indian passport expired after naturalization process than you don't need any affidavit,

How to apply for Renunciation of Indian passport for Minors?
The process is same for minors but two extra notary documents are required which you can download from document checklist & notarize them.
I chose UPS as my preferred courier and did not use VFS' fedex label. Does any one know whether the label can be UPS ground?

No need of signing copies of ur documents.
