Baby #2 was badly deformed with the brain outside the skull. It's sad, but so interesting to see the way these babies develop. Amazing and beautiful even if they don't make it.

Close off the roost box they sit in until they go back roost bar. Of course keep some of the nesting boxes so they can lay eggs but it looks to me like you have six of them and maybe one or two of them they're using them for sleeping in which you could probably close those off one at a time until they get used to going back to the roost bar again it's just habit

Geez, at least use a turkey baster to speed things up a bit. 😂 The milk I use for drinking I get in glass from the farm, but i get a couple gallons a week for cream so i ask them to put it in plastic milk jugs. Then i poke a whole in the bottom and sit it on top of a pitcher for the milk to drain out.

Thank you for the info. Funny story: I was giving my pet rooster to a friend. I tied his legs together and put him in the bed of my pickup. Before I got my truck started, he figured out how to hop with his legs tied together, hopped out of the truck and was hopping - not running - away! My friend gave him a good home.

Certain breeds of hens have spurs. I’m currently looking at some right now because we’ve had a fox attack and I would like my hens more able to protect themselves if I’m away. I’m also looking for a larger breed of roo as we lost ours in the fox attack sadly. After 9a in the morning in the daylight too. I didn’t realize foxes did that. More upsetting is that we now have a fox on the property loose somewhere.

Did she excrete anything while egg bound? My girl has been excreting clear liquid with a little yellow but it does look like egg. And her hind it is very messy like yours. Her vent is active but not swollen like yours.

Did you squeeze the bumble out again? It looked like you cut the top off and went straight to wrapping without squeezing. I have seen some people really have to squeeze fairly hard to get all the bumble junk out.

I have several hens that have spurs also. I thought maybe there were certain breeds that produce spurs, many of mine are barnyard mixes.

Omg this is definitely in my book as the ugliest chicken alive. I know they're more disease resistant and whatnot, but I am absolutely grossed out by that naked neck 😖 I don't want any feathers missing on the necks of any of my flock. I know the gene is semi dominant, meaning you need to be homozygous in ordee to display the full naked neck but one copy of the gene will give a patchy appearance... I'm just thankful that the gene can be spotted and those birds eliminated from the flock as to avoid accidentally breeding the full naked neck. It's just so creepy, makes me imagine the bird was on the chopping block and was plucked but then narrowly escaped the axe. They look so awkward with that wrinkly skin, reminds me of an old man on his last legs.

Great job. Bumblefoot is a staph infection though, and is very contagious to humans. Please wear gloves next time. If you have any cuts or abrasions on your hand, you could get the infection. I'm sure that was a huge relief to your hen.
