Don’t sell your railroad. It’s a gift that keeps giving.

NIce try, but the corrupt politicians and big money corporate interests won a narrow victory. This is going the wrong way historically. We, as a country, need to move towards nationalizing the railroad rights-of-way, so under public ownership they could be operated like turnpikes, open to any operator who can meet equipment requirements. This plan works all over Europe, and allows for not only freight, but extensive passenger service from multiple operators, who DO NOT need to beg a freight railroad for permission, or have to pay exhorbitant fees to operate passenger service over the lines. The Cincinnati Southern could have been a key part of restored Midwest to Florida rail passenger service. The odds of that happening under NS ownership are now next to zero. Even without it becoming a passenger route, the ability of a public owner being able to require open access to the line to multiple freight carriers could have moved freight traffic away from more desirable passenger routes, opening them up to more and faster passenger trains. This was a bad, short-sighted deal for The Queen City and for the future of railroading in the U. S., and the Mayor who took big campaign bucks from NS to push for this should be ashamed and run out of office, and to the big-bucks lobbying job he probably has waiting for him when he leaves office.

Very nicely done; you make a compelling case for leaving the ownership arrangement as is. One minor correction: the last map of the region at 15:16 shows Birmingham in Mississippi and Atlanta in Alabama.

As a kid of a retired locomotive engineer who ran up and down these tracks many years from Cincinnati to Southern KY, I love and appreciate this video.
