You made this video for the sole purpose of telling everybody how much money you have. Sad.
You can’t get my intentions from this video. If it upset you, maybe that says more about you.
Good video 👍 A bit of a reality check for me - I work in finance and am a qualified chartered accountant but have no way near this level of control over my spending 😅.
You don’t have to invest into stocks to max out your stocks&shares isa. You can get 4.9% APY in free funds on T212 then dca a comfortable amount into the pie
Unless you're actually a trader, I don't understand why people would want to stress themselves out by buying/selling individual stocks themselves. For the last 30 years I've made use of managed funds, where I just dump my money into and then don't have to worry about it.
I think it comes down to education and influence. Following what you have been shown or taught. I was never told what to do and so followed influencers on TH-cam. I’m sure this is the same as many others. Also I would assume there’s a large portion of those people who think they can beat the market, but are wrong.
Pennystocks???😂
Great idea!
But i could become a millionaire
Very true, but you could also waste years with little return on your money.
It amazes me that most investing channels like yourself dont have a proper 6 month emergency fund 😱😱😱 although your savings are better than some ive seen
Why would I need an emergency fund? I’m a healthy young person with good job prospects and no dependents. Also I have 6k in savings, is that not enough?
@@ExceldividendsI think COVID should have been all the proof you need for why 1-3 months isn't enough. It's unlikely, but when shit hits the fan, normally multiple things go wrong at once and it can go downhill further than you expect. I would say 6 months of all your essential expenses+ £1000 should be a minimum unless you're living at home with parents or something like that. You can also get decent rates like 6 or 7% with the correct accounts too, so even though it's not invested, you aren't losing too much. It's good that you have lowered your risk by selling your car though. That was very sensible.
No pension?
I have pension, was missed in the video although mentioned right at the end. Will make an update to include in the future.
@@Exceldividendsyes I just saw it at the end there!
Student debt in the uk could change at any point with a new government. People have no idea what will come in the future and they could get massively screwed.
Could get written off entirely.
@@Exceldividendsthat's true. Unfortunately though student debt massively increases inflation and screws over future generations if it's not paid off.
Dont see why youd waste the lisa and help to buy by not using them when you get 25% for free. Its a no brainer if you dont have a house.
Because the information is not all that helpful in terms of whether you can put money into those types of ISA as well as putting into a cash ISA. It is clear now you can put money into different ISA types but prior to April 2024 I thought that you couldn’t do that.
@@Exceldividendsfair enough! I never had a Lisa as I didn't even know they existed until 2023 about 5 months before I bought my house, so now I encourage everyone to max them out if they ever want to own a house as I missed that great opportunity myself. 👍
S & P500 or VWRL or Ftse All word 🤔 all great choices 👍
Yes!
@Exceldividends would it be silly or just to much weight in the USA markets to own all 3 of these
Hi George, you have made the right decision. I invested in;and realised Free trade wasn't so free, their name is a misnomer 💯. Move everything to Trading 212 towards the end of 2022 and haven't looked back since 👍🙏
Thanks! Will pay off in the long run.
JPMorgan have a number of what they call research enhanced index ETFs. They track specific indexes like MSCI World and S&P 500 but they are actively managed by going overweight or underweight on stocks in the index depending on whether they're considered over or undervalued. Might be worth checking out though they don’t have a long track record.
I’ve heard of those and I assume they also have a large expense ratio. Thanks, I’ll check them out!
Not much point buying multiple world ETFs, they all more or less track the same underlying index and charge different fees for the same product. Just buy the cheapest one. However you could buy some interesting ETFs and compare how they perform over time and comment on why that might be. For example, VHVG is a simple developed world ETF, XLPE is a private equity ETF, CAPU is a very interesting S&P 500 sector ETF that rotates its holdings monthly between S&P sectors based on research from Barclays (which is published and you could read and discuss in a video). Other interesting ETFs also exist but that's a quick interesting list to get you started. Avoid any Amundi ETFs they're a nightmare and have burnt many holders.
Thank you for the suggestions. I will be taking this into account, and using some of your ideas. Thanks
I'm a bit lost. Why did you want to transfer shares between platforms in the first place? What am I missing?
I may not have explained this properly in the video. Freetrade is far too expensive to be an appropriate place to hold long term investments. This was a recent change implimented by them. I chose Trading 212 as it's the most cost efficient, but it took them a long time to allow me to create an account and also to allow me to transfer a portfolio in from another provider.
@@Exceldividends Ah, okay. That explains it - thank you! Well, with the recent drop in tech stock prices you may have made a lucky decision if you choose to buy back in. Whatever you do, good luck with your investments.
It’ll be interesting to see long term results if you invest into VWRP versus any other tech etf.
Thanks. I think I will be doing some form of content based on this. A comparison of the whole world versus various other types of ETFs.
Only you can decide what to do with your money. Regardless of what you choose to do i will carry on watching your videos
Thank you, I appreciate it. Hopefully I can continue to make good content for you!
How about giving yourself some "Play Money", say £1000(or £100) and make a year long series to see how much you can turn it into buy buying the Dips then selling. A great example was buying Nvidia yesterday and then selling in a few weeks to hopefully get about 15%-20% back. Don't have to use the whole amount in one go. I know its risky but could compare the results in 1 year.
That sounds like a good idea! Beat the market series. That’s going on the list.
Time in the market not timing the market.
It’s annoying that I have to wait to get back into the market!
shud i sell my csgo knife for 700£ i dont play very much anymore
I don’t know nothing about no knives
@@Exceldividends😂😂😂😂
SPXP is fine at 0.05%, however SPXL is 0.03%. Imho if your starting out you'll want to go for the absolute cheapest. Once word gets around SPXL will fly because of just how cheap it is, and State Street know a thing or 2 about the S&P 500, having released the first ever S&P etf in the 90's.
Hmm you may be right!
The one thing I will say is Never put all your eggs in one basket. Good luck
Unless that basket is US equities…
Well if anything the S&P 500 is a big basket. But I’m pretty diversified.
S&P500 just doesn’t lose. All these TH-camrs trying to beat the system is funny.
Awesome video and well done! I'm also starting to post about our net worth journey and love the transparency you provide!
Awesome! Good luck on your journey :)
At 3:50 you me mentioned that you withdrew from the moneybox LISA. Im thinking of doing this. Was the process easy to do this? Not looking forward for the hit I'd have to take though.
I would encourage you to keep putting money into the LISA, it's 25% return instantly. I made the decision to pull the money out, but looking back I can see it was a mistake. But, the process is really easy, just press the withdraw button and they tell you how much they can give you. I think it only took a few days to be transferred out.
£50 per day for an entire calendar year leaves you £1750 short of the annual ISA limit. Not too bad. So, you could do that in an S&S ISA and ride the growth without paying a bean in any further taxes.
The stock market is only open around 250 days a year, closed on weekends and public holidays. So I would be around 8000 short for a full year. That extra money I could invest over those months or in a lump sum.
how long are you holding?
Forever.
@Exceldividends will you sell if the market takes a downturn?
I would buy more in a downturn.
Great to see a very realistic video on net worth and some great ideas on how to track it, thanks a lot! Nice one!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I often see that people have accounts like Lloyds (Including myself) as their main account. Why is this ? Mine is an account ive had since I was a child setup by my parents. Im 37 now and still use it to receive my pay but everything comes streight out of it into high interest savings or investing. Lloyds offers absolutely zero benefits. The had 1% interest on their savings accounts which is god awful. They dont really offer anything in terms of perks. I just wonder why anyone would open an account with them ? Im moving over to monzo myself for transactions now.
Had it set up since I was a kid! Tbh I just havent had to bother to move my incoming money. I think its a mental thing, to switch my main account, sticking with one of the big banks.
Hi, quick question..Why have you stop using free trade?
Hi, its too expensive and trading 212 is a better platform.
1 week in, I think it's going well!
Keep going I watch your videos as inspiration
Did you incl your workplace pension ?
No! I forgot! It will be included in my next update. Stay tuned :)
@@Exceldividends haha , so your worth a lot more !
You could lose Spotify and reinvest that on top of your £1k and enjoy music on TH-cam music. Better audio quality anyway.
That £4 a month going to make a massive difference 🤣
@@Exceldividendsdon’t need to be a jerk about it. Literally paying twice for the same thing. Unsubbed
Lol what
One thing you gotta scroll in more to where you’re talking about, quite hard to see on the phone
I understand, it’s hard when the video is just spreadsheets
Man is motivated 🙌
Yes sir!
Should I be spending or saving more?
What about a buffet amount? For emergencies or of things will cost more or things you buy in the future Yeah your saving a lot but it seems your saving to invest and not wanting to enjoy life If your investing is done for retirement then you need to live life if it's not and it's to retire early and quick then you're doing the right thing. Inflation will make things cost more
I already have savings which is my buffer. And I’m investing as much as I can afford right now to maximise my younger years, this may change in the future. And right now I’m living my life pretty well and don’t feel like I need to spend more money to enjoy it more.
@@Exceldividends I'm just making the point don't live to invest, invest to live. The aim for investing should always be to spend the money and live your life not to invest to invest.
youre statistically better off just putting all the money you can in at once, instead of spreading it out
Only time it doesn’t beat it is when at the peak of a market or in big market downturns. Will be interesting to see how this will compare to the rest of my investments over this year considering the bearish outlook and overheated market right now.
Im kinda doing the same thing but £10 every day and adding 50% more on a down day in the daily chart what u lot think??
That’s an interesting idea. Why are you doing daily? Why not invest one lump every month?
Why did you stop using a LISA?
I was under the impression that I could not invest into a s&s ISA at the same time, but apparently I was wrong. I may be considering starting investing into a s&s LISA.
@Exceldividends you were wrong and yeah, definitely consider it
Am I making a mistake?
Not in the long run according to historical records
No... But you need to add some additional shares when market dipped...then it will work best
for me its between VUAG and VUSA, not too sure which is better. i've heard its better to auto invest dividends straight back in so I am thinking of doing that instead of vanguard doing it for me
Nicely explained. It would've been helpful to know which one you would choose and why.
Video coming out Monday at 5pm where I do invest into one.
Sppy, job done.
One for the next video!
If you’re ever going to look at buying a property or if you just simply want to save for retirement I would highly recommend you put money back into you LISA. Ideally stocks and shares LISA unless you want to buy a property in the next couple years.
Max for LISA is 4K a year and comes off my ISA limit, pointless to me tbh. But thanks for the suggestion.
@Exceldividends well the point is you get 25% bonus on anything you put in which is brilliant if you’re saving for buying a house or simply just for retirement. And because you took your money out you lost that bonus and essentially got a 6.75% fee taken from what you put in. If you max it out every year that’s an extra £1k a year to your net worth you get free from the government
@@albertwarren6917 Something I might consider, the main reason I was not using it was due to the previous ISA rules where I would only be able to use the LISA and not a stocks and shares ISA also.
@Exceldividends That was actually a common misunderstanding of the ISA rules. You’ve always been able to pay into a LISA and a Stocks and Shares ISA at the same time, it’s just if you decided to pay into one LISA you couldn’t pay into another LISA in the same tax year. And same with the stocks and shares ISA, if you decided to pay into one stocks and shares ISA you couldn’t pay into another stocks and shares ISA in the same tax year. The new 2024 rules just basically mean you can pay into multiple LISA’s or multiple Stocks and Shares ISA’s etc in the same tax year. Of course making sure that your total contributions across all your ISA’s doesn’t exceed £20k a year.
Do you not have a pension?
Yes, made a note of it at the end of the video, not something I track regularly and forgot about in this video.
Great video as always George 💪🏼
Thank you!
VUAG/ VUSA are the Gold Standard
Very true! The OGs
Don’t want to be a party pooper but I think you forgot the state street SP500 ETF (SPXL) it has an expense ratio of 0.03% and comes from a reputable company. For me personally the best etf to track the S&P500 as it’s the cheapest!
There’s loads of ETFs, would’ve taken me hours to go through them all. Maybe for another video I’ll go over some lesser known options. I went over the top on trading 212 when you search for an s&p 500 etf. Thanks for the suggestion though.
@ To be honest what you’re doing is great! Keep it up! Just thought I would mention this one as the 0.03% expense ratio is the only one I see that is the same as the one the Americans are investing into (VOO)!
Has a higher spread than VUAG tho @@2manarmy464
Sppy>spxl
Would you pick all world over s&p500?
Both are welcome in my portfolio.
huge overlap if you do as US stock is 65% of the worlds stock market anyway so if u buy an all word etf ur buying the s n p 500 anyway.. then uv got s n p 500 as well uv got same companies in both
Nice vid. For this year, I favour the Vanguard North America ETF VNRG instead of vanilla S&P500 because it has 570 holdings rather than 500 so it is slightly more diversified (v. slightly less tech and slightly more finance). Due to the $ exchange, buying US shares at the moment is expensive, but you win when selling if the £ is weak when you sell (like now). One of my $ ETFs is showing a loss of £136 but an Fx gain of £181 - so net gain of £44 if I sold it now! AFAIK, unless you need and spend the dividends, accumulating USA ETFs should be better than distributing USA ETFs because of the 15% withholding tax on USA dividends (compounding effect in acc. ETF).
Thanks for the comments! Maybe I’ll do a revised version of this in the future :)
