October 2024 garden tour!
After missing the September garden tour, the October one is finally here! To be honest, I am not a fan of the spring garden! Our spring is extremely short and summer moves in swiftly with its unbearable heat and unforgiving sun! We are making means to protect the garden though.
I hope you enjoy this tour!

Thanks for the kind comment. I am in no way famous 😅. I am indeed from Africa, not the US. My country is a desert so we are very hot and dry. We definitely have no meadows but we have a beautiful landscape that has sand dunes along the coast, a beautiful desert, and mountains in the mainland while the north is dominated by flood plains. No offense, you dont wait for the seeds to germinate, I explained already what to do. It is simple, the depending on the length of the fruit you cutoff ⅙ part of the top and ⅙ of the bottom. You don't have to peel it. Cut the remaining papaya in half in the length, and pullout the seeds. Sow those and you get 99,9% female when they begin to bear. If still you get one male, no sweat it healthy for the females but not necessarily in this case. If you felt offended my excuses. I have paw paw fields with no males. A lot of farmers keep this as secret. Thus don't worry, give you it for free.

Very educative, I have been an Extension Worker for over 40 years, I am actually retired now and I am not ashamed to say what I have just seen and learnt is my first after all these years. I have a male one at home that I just decided to let it be, first thing I will do to morrow is that I will cut it and see what happens. One question though...do I have to sterilise my machete before cutting each of my male papaya trees?

This method is useless and time consuming, listen next time select the seeds before sowing by using only the seeds in the middle of the fruit. Do not use those in the top and the bottom of the fruit. These way you will have 99.9% female and hermaphrodite papaya bearing plants period. Stop wasting the peoples time ann 2024.
