MENAHEM PRESSLER - DEBUSSY "CLAIR DE LUNE"
"Clair de Lune" is the third movement of the "Suite bergamasque," a piano suite by French composer Claude Debussy. It was originally composed in 1890, but Debussy significantly revised it before its 1905 publication.
Here are some key points about "Clair de Lune":
Title and Inspiration:
The title "Clair de Lune" translates to "Light of the Moon" in English.
It is inspired by a poem of the same name by Paul Verlaine, reflecting the themes of moonlight, tranquility, and the night.
Musical Characteristics:
The piece is known for its impressionistic style, characterized by its use of rich harmonies, fluid melodies, and a dreamlike atmosphere.
It is written in D-flat major and has a 9/8 time signature, which contributes to its gentle and flowing rhythm.
Structure:
"Clair de Lune" follows an ABA form, typical of many romantic and impressionistic pieces.
The A section introduces the main theme, which is soft and lyrical.
The B section provides a contrast with a more dynamic and expressive development before returning to the serenity of the A section.
Cultural Impact:
"Clair de Lune" is one of Debussy's most famous works and has been featured in numerous films, television shows, and commercials.
Its evocative and emotional quality has made it a favorite piece for both performers and listeners alike.
Performance:
The piece is technically accessible for intermediate to advanced pianists, though it requires a sensitive touch and control to bring out its nuances and emotional depth.
Overall, "Clair de Lune" stands as a quintessential example of Debussy's impressionistic style, blending beauty and simplicity to create a piece that resonates deeply with listeners.

Soulful, wistful & melancholy…. beautifully played. The voicing of the duet between the treble & bass is so tender & expressive❤❤
student: which bar should i start to play? Schiff: nah nevermind Czerny sucks
😂
Чудо ❤

Nice Bloke. 😃

BRAVO!!!
I swear she can make anything look effortless. ❤🙌
Благодарю!!!!
Are those masterclasses useful or just an ego trip?
Sounds pretty pointless. Like the student is doing all the work.
Sometimes I think, interpretation is what the teacher wants to achieve, but this looks more like what he just wants it to sound like and kind of an ego trip
Mostly an ego trip, I only had one teacher that used to say "I'm going to grade only your technique, the interpretation you give to the music is totally up to you, so choose if you want to read about the author, historical context, listen to a bunch of music of his contemporaries or just find a TH-cam video of your favorite guitarist and imitate him"
@@senortenpiedad8515 yeah that is a really nice approach to it
@@senortenpiedad8515If only making music was that easy you could just imitate someone or interpret according to your spontaneous feelings and then play at world class level. If you’re teacher is only learning you technique, then you’re missing out the whole point of music. Learning how exactly to convey spontaneous feelings to an audience, how to shape the music, how to frase and emphasise small little harmonic nuances or different counterpoints, how to interpret a piece in a way that actually makes an impact on the audience. That you cannot just learn yourself by intuition. You must learn from everyone, all the great masters, many books full of knowledge, many masterclasses and most importantly a consistent teacher that really uses great effort in growing your musical possibilities and not just your technique. Only here playing music becomes special
Exquisite, deeply moving, and sublime ❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Czerny 😢😢
Czerny is The Best.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Tschaikovsky must have had such overwhelming emotions for which he had to find an outlet
Words can't describe the exalted beauty and expressive control of this Goddess, a world treasure. Beyond virtuosic.
Czerny wrote one thousand pieces and taught Franz Liszt. How many pieces had Schiff written...0.0 He's a little too full of himself.
Prokoviev is so hard! Martha makes it look so easy!
Which piece??
Schubert, Impromptu op. 142, No. 3 (b flat), I think. That piece with the variations (he plays the beginning of variation V (5)). It has a very catchy melody, on which variations are composed.
La amo !!!!!!,❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Czerny is better than you, dear
Dear? Well, he is only saying that the mechanical style of PRACTICE of Czerny is not to be put in a piece interpretation… Czerny is for studying, a piece is made to you make it sound good
Always end on Bach never on Debussy !
73yo at the time and playing better than most concert pianists a third her age
Can't go on with a Czerny hater
Can anyone tell me the year and source of the audio?
I think she performed the whole seasons 3 years ago at her festival in Hamburg live but only a few pieces where finally released.
I want him to teach me.
Amazing. Bravo!
