Maxim Shalygin "Sub Rosa" film
First there was the music. After a series of concerts and a successful recording, I couldn't get rid of the idea of making a film based on this composition. The poem by Robert Frost “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”, which I used in the musical composition, also has vivid visual and mystical images that haunted me. It is difficult to describe what this film is about, because at first sight there is no conscious plot, but on the other hand a series of images and their combination create different paths of interpretation in our minds, at the level of sensations and premonitions. It's as if we were seeing many dreams without quite understanding where the dream ends and the reality begins: snow turns to ash, water to ice, plasma to planets... Let this image remain an expression of my love for this hellish but beautiful world.

His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
