Absolutely, I was trying to read along with the book and it jumped from page 2 to 16 😂 For those who have read the book, is it worth it to read the 350 page book or just listen to this?
It’s a good miniseries from back when also, William Peterson as Whip. I’ll always remember it and the book cover, my son read the book over & over and we loved the miniseries.
On my much loved special edition dvd of Disney's " 20k Leagues Under The Sea" was a short doc. about the Humboldt Squid - (diablo rojo) - I'm never going deep sea fishing without depth charges ...
Just realised I've never read Jules Verne's classic....the hunt is on! And I've just remembered when I was about 7 we had a board game 20000 Leagues Under the Sea....complete with Nautilus and diving helmets which one had to remember to put on the divers before they went under ....or else!!
@@anaderol5408 - Thx! I never realized a board game existed. Concerning the book, I recommend taking the time to aquire a complete unabridged edition - (unfortunately, there are a few incomplete or modified editions about). Harper Goff's Nautilus design for the Disney film is, imo, the perfect example for artistic deviation from the book. Cheers! Mobilus -- N -- Mobili 👍! Edit/addendum: Capitan Nemo also appears in Verne's "Mysterious Island" ...
Peter Gabriel? Google helped me...Never seen him as Sledge Hammer...But as the bent copper in numerous films like "an innocent man". Good reading voice.
I really enjoyed this audio book my only gripe is that the author doesn't seem to be able to write a good and fitting ending to his stories, I found the end fight with the creature disappointing as I did with his other novel Jaws. The book (Jaws) was an enjoyable read but the ending was extremely weak, it's such a shame as I do enjoy his writing style for the most part.
Have you ever seen the end of the Lord of the rings trilogy? By god J.R.R.Tolkein must have been sick to death of it all by the end....Throw in the ring, Golem goes in after it and the eagles pick them up...Why didnt they fly them in and drop them off?! Weakest ending EVER.
"Jaws" was one thing. But "The Beast" was FAR more terrifying. Like others, I bought the cassette back when it first came out, and literally wore it out. Finding it HERE was very happily unexpected. To whomever is behind this, THANK YOU!!
Yea as Richard Ellis pointed out in his book the search for the giant squid- something is inherently more odious about a creature like that than a great white.
Out of curiosity, does anyone know for sure how big the adult squid was in the movie? I know in the book, I think it was described as being 180 feet long. But I assume in the movie, it was smaller. Does anyone know how big it was though, if they had to do a best guess?
When Whip and Talley are not allowed to see the squid to examine it, Dr. Talley organizes a submersible expedition to explore the squid's habitat. After analyzing the carcass of the dead squid, the scientists determine it is just a 37 ft (11 m), 2,000 lb (910 kg) baby. The information comes too late, however, and the adult squid, the baby's 66 ft (20 m), 3,000 lb (1.4 t) mother, attacks the submersible, killing everyone on board. This is from Wikipedia. Obviously that's not always the most reliable source, but I remember them talking about the size of the juvenile in the movie and that's pretty accurate so I would say that's a pretty accurate as well
Its been years since I saw the mini series. But I don't recall it being anywhere near 180ft (which is 60 Metres!). From the scenes I recall it was probably about half that. Unless there was a scene with a captured juvenile? Like i say its been a long time.
The baby was around 37 feet long in the miniseries but they never specify how long the mother is, however there's a point in the movie where Mike says to Whip "It would have to be 50-60 feet long"
I remember renting this from Blockbuster video and listening to it for hours while I played SNES and painted Miniatures in my room. Good times! Thanks for posting it so much!
I picked this audiobook out at the library with my dad when I was in grade school and listened to it over and over. Every word of this is burned into my brain. Thank you so much for uploading this! You have no idea what it means to me to hear it again!
Same here about finding it in the library! I eventually bought it again a few years back on cassette. I lost that version but it was nice to own for a bit
@Berzerkerhakijedi Man, I wish I was that young! Try and see if you can find episodes on TH-cam. It was a hilarious show, but the only problem was, I could never take David Rasche seriously as an actor. It was played about 1am midweek in the U.K. about 1988.
I was so hoping darling wouldn’t die. I side was relief when they said he would be OK.
I love the way Darling keeps saying 'like bloody hell'....it's so bloody British sounding! 😂
Is it just me, or does this seem like a shortened version?

Ashame the TV movie was a failure Had the setting off Washington state, thought it would hit theaters instead of TV. Book and audio book is worth it
That was good, more like this one please.... Hi from newzealand ❤😂🎉😊
2:15:00 this mc is a stupid jackass. He keeps getting himself in trouble and then acts like he couldn't see it coming.
1:00:00 book mark.
Imho this was better in certain respects than the tv movie that came out a few years later.
Which parts is when the narrator is speaking of the Squid’s P.O.V?

Great book. Terrible narrator.
Wait really?!? What don’t you like about his narration?
Watch it buddy, you’d better not hear Sledgehammer hear you say that!
Read by Sledge Hammer, my hero! 😊

Enjoyed it Thank you

Oh haven't listened to this one in years! Thank you for posting it!🤗
Excellent story, excellent narration! Thanks so much!
Simply Fantastic 👏🤓
I swear i listened to this back in the 80s, reminds me of Jaws
You would like to believe it was the mother whale that lost her offspring to it. 😊
That was Great 😊

Thoroughly enjoyed this nice no extra stuff read. Thank you for sharing.
😮👍✌️
Average story but beautifully read
Great stuff, thanks!
Tentacloid!!! - I mean something like `wonderful classics´ with that, in a #Cthulhu myth inspired way, may be. 🤗
Sledgehammer lol
Wow! It’s here just the way it was in my childhood!😍
Great story, thanks a lot!
Thank you very much for uploading. Wonderful audiobook. And a great narrator, too.
Read by Sledge Hammer himself...

As if the author was tired and barely able to finish, with nobody in the publishing house trying to fix it? 😉

The book ending of Jaws did give us Brody screaming an ejaculation of hopelessness, though.
Thanks for up loading

Hmm. It's been a while since I saw it but my guess is 10-15 meters. Totally over the top of course, just like the shark in Jaws :)
Just watched a TV doc on 'Giants of the Sea'. The biggest giant squid ever recorded was 59 feet long & weighed 1 ton. Mind boggling!!

WHAT ?! ..........that was an abrupt ending. Oh, a Sperm Whale show'd up an bit his body off...........ok.
I listened to this hundreds of times as a kid. Wish it was available on audible.
Yeah. Seems they are throwing away free money by not selling it
is this the whole audiobook?
This is abridged. I'd say it's probably only half the book, if I had to guess. I think they just kept the action parts.
@@tomsabatino that’s my only complaint with this.
