What's the best kitchen?..... a FREE kitchen @
Great video guys, as a cabinet maker I can honestly say you saved a TON of money! It's all melamine and laminate in the end and comes up fine with a bit of gumption. If you are thinking of going for a more rustic looking kitchen down the track with a timber look some 18mm marine ply goes a long way. You can make look industrial, edge band some iron on laminate . Makes it look solid or paint it any colour. Glue on a few thin strips and you've got shaker style door! Also if you want really sick timber countertops, buy a cpl of 2nd hand Amart 90's Tas oak tables with the yellowing varnish. Stripped and re jointed they look amazing with that water based clear you're using. All in all you've probably saved $20k at least so big pat on the back!
Coming along really nicely guys. It's great when free stuff works out.
Wow, lots of exciting progress. Love the diamonds, they are very cool. Well done on scoring a Beautiful kitchen. We've now done 3 used kitchens in previous houses ,the cheapest was $200 ,all took a LOT of brain power to make them the best into a different space . Then we actually used the wall cupboards ,that we didn't need in the new place, for the kitchen benches in the caravan . They are a great height and narrow. Win win. No waste. hahaha . We really like those bunnings bench tops too. The caravan has the oak ones , they're beautiful. I haven't found the right used kitchen for here yet , still looking but I have got a double drainer , single basin antique cast iron sink. I can't wait to install as soon as we find a kitchen. Great job and thanks for sharing lovelies ❤
Gave it a like before I’ve watched it. Love what you two are doing, and how you present it. Onya, team!
Starting to look really good. Well done, reminds me of all our years of building when we were your ages.
Sorry are you guys in Tassie
With your paint tin- after tipping it out get a sharp flat head screwdriver and a hammer and drive a slot into the tin where that paint pool is and it all runs back into the tin. The lid seals over the slot and hey presto... no more paint runs down your can. Only tip from that one point next time as well. I use 3 slots about 25 mm apart and i punch them before tipping the can.
Great video gang. Best wishes from Aussie Homestead 🙏
The feature wall is genius.. it's a fence. Looks epic!
You are doing very well, the both of you... and I bet Dad's help is muchly appreciated... It is starting to look like cabin... Cheers for sharing...
Great progress guys! Mitch, you're killing it.. Well done mate!!
Thanks Mate!!
we enjoy watching your videos and we always hit the like button. Hope this comment helps your TH-cam algorithm.
You are the best - thank you so much!
Hi guys, not trying to teach you to suck eggs, your doing a great job. I wouldn't be using the mesh tape on the long ceiling joins. Most of the repairs I have to do on plaster joins as a handyman / finish chippy, is due to the mesh being used in place of paper tape. I know the paper sucks, and applying the mesh is easier, but in the long run you will find the elasticity of the mesh will give you those long annoying joint cracks that can form with movement and expansion, whereas the paper will bond better and create a more solid join. This is just what I have found over 15 years. Please don't let me discourage you, still amazing work :)
Thanks so much for the advice and for sharing your experience. We’ll definitely keep your tip about using paper tape in mind. Thanks again for watching and for the encouragement! 😊
I like those tiles. Great job. There's some rowdy celebrating when one of us cuts something just right around here. Haha. Thank you for sharing lovelies ❤❤
Haha, it's a good feeling. Thanks for watching! 😊
I'm by no means an expert or even very good but have done a fair amount of plaster repairs in the last year due to buying an old house... I think Mitch should be working the mud along the tape instead of across it which makes the process much faster and affords workability of the mud before it goes off. It's better to have a few little 'lips' from the edge of the knife to sand off especially in the first coat than trying to get it perfect as you usually end up making it look worse. The build is really coming along nicely though so great to see.
Haha yes, after a bit of practice Mitch got the hang of it and his technique got a lot better than it looked in the video. Thank you for sharing your experience and insights! It’s always great to hear from someone who’s been hands-on with similar projects. Thanks for the encouragement! 😊
Coming along nicely. In no time at all You'll have a four seasons room to live in
Thanks Mike. We're getting very close now
You need to look on TH-cam and get some more information on how to do the joins in your gyprock
Thanks for watching, Yes i have done that and have learnt a few tips.
Great update!
Thanks!
Woow it's starting to look like a home ....keep up the great work
Thank you so much 😊
That geni is only modified sine wave so might be a bit harsh on charging phones and laptops.
Thanks for Watching mate, yes i did realise that, have upgraded now.
Glad to see you back!
Cheers mate!
That looks fantastic. Ceilings are HARD , you did great. We used that Earthwool as lining for a caravan that wed gutted and rebuilt ,we peeled it into flatter sheets , it worked so well. It'll be far cosier in the cabin now. Houses in Australia are rarely made for cold weather, especially in qld. We get below 0*c yet it's rare to see insulation in homes . In Summer though , old queenslanders are the best house , cross breezes are amazing. Thanks for sharing and keep cosy lovelies ❤❤
Thanks heaps for the support - yes, it's so much cosier now! I know, Qld can be deceptively cold but I love the style of the old queenslanders. Not much good in Tassie sadly. That would have made a big difference to your caravan. Ours has been freezing so we're very happy to be in the cabin more and more now. You too 😊
Great progress!
Cheers, mate
Have the travelling videos finished? I was hoping you'd get down my way in south WA.
Hey Alan, not yet - I haven't found time to finish the last of the videos but keep an eye out for more. We did spend some time in south WA but I will admit that we didn't film too much unfortunately (we got a bit slack by that point haha)
The cabin is coming along really nicely, can’t wait to see what’s on the cards next.
Thanks Karen! 😊
Great update. It already looks more homely!
Thanks Andrew - we think so too!
Great to see you guys back at the cabin. I'm heading over next week to work on mine.
Hope your cabin is going well. What are you working on at the moment?
Just finished the gyprock, flooring and onto the balustrade in the loft. Loving the journey.
Nice. It's such a good feeling to be finished with the gyprock and flooring. It starts feeling like a real cabin at that stage. Our flooring is also down now and we're loving it. Keep us updated on the rest of your journey!
Welcome back!
Cheers mate!
Nice to see you're figuring out your challenges to keep making progress. What a stunning property.🤩 There's something very comforting about a wood stack . That genny will be a fantastic addition. We now have a decent one but when we were living in a tin shed off grid , we had a super tiny one that did nothing and only very limited power. Hubby put a dual battery system in our car, and inverter , so on supply trips , we could charge several tool batteries, our phones etc . We built the shed around us then completely renovated a removal home with just those. Great video. Keep warm lovelies ❤
Thank you! You have to start somewhere, don't you? That's a great idea with setting up the dual battery system in the car and it sounds like it served you well. 😌
WHy Metal Siding? It's gonna suck the hot in and keep it there?
Thanks for watching, No need to worry about that in our climate, plus it was all free materials.
Stumbled across your channel during the Rona, watched all the videos with enthusiasm and captivation but didn’t end up subscribing. Then the TH-cam algorithm reintroduced me to your channel a couple years later. Stoked! And to learn you have a channel dedicated to your travel. I’ll have to check that out too. Needless to say, I learnt from my previous mistake and am now subscribed. Cheers guys. Keep up the enjoyable lifestyle and thanks for keeping us involved in it.
Haha welcome back! Thanks for following our journey and hope you continue to enjoy the updates! 😊
I have been to the US, where they have insulated roller doors. It was very interesting.
Yep, seems to be a bit more common over there
Nice to see a new video. Hope that now that spring is here you'll be posting more often. I think the extra light was a good move. Plus now you can insulate the wall
Cheers Mike. Yes, lot's more still to come - just have to find the time for everything! 😉
The original plan was good but this is better ❤keep up the fantastic work
Thanks for the encouragement!
I like all the light coming in now and the view is beautiful. Matching windows all round is a fantastic idea. Thank you for sharing lovelies ❤
Thanks so much! 😊
Looks much better with all that natural light
Thanks for the feedback - we think so too!
Love your new fireplace!
Thanks Henry - it's been an awesome addition!
Love you guys. You've lived the life I wanted to!
Nothing beats the warmth and ambience of a wood stove. Are you planning on installing some kind of heat shield around the rear of the fire box?
Thanks Jim. Yep, we're planning to install a heat shield when we install the internal cladding
@@55acreswild30 It's coming along nicely 👌
A guy in Hobart complained to me about the heat. It was 26 degrees 😂😂😂
Haha yep, that's a true Tasmanian 🤣
There is a great brass cleaner called Brasso
Cheers Mike, we'll have to give it a go. She'll need plenty of it!
I would love to have a wood stove to cook on again and yours is a beauty 👍
Thanks heaps - we've been loving it. So different to a standard stove.
Loved the video good to see you back at it
Glad you enjoyed it - thanks for the comment!
