She should have told her to brush teeth after using the steroid inhaler to avoid thrush & also help with remembering.

I would have explained to the pt that asthma is an inflammatory disease The lining of the airways swells up and the only way to control that is by regular use of her brown, steroid inhaler. She's a sensible adult and shouldn't struggle to grasp this. Can then go into more detail if she asks questions. My patients like knowing what's going on, improves adherence.

Interesting conversation. It might have been better to just lay down the telephone option from the onset as the patient mentioned repeatedly that she had a busy and hectic lifestyle. Maybe letting her decide the time and day for the intervention stage. Also, it can be difficult at times to just accept no for an answer. In this case, some can argue the patient had an asthma exacerbation and pharmacists, as a healthcare professional, feel they have a duty of care and really push for consent and start "telling" patients instead of trying to achieve a shared agenda for personal care . Also, by doing this, you can risk moving into the transactional analysis approach in communication that can potentially lead the patient to rebel and do the opposite of the desired action and result in poor patient outcomes. Personally, I would highlight the telephone number of the pharmacy on her label and ask the patient to ring if she has any concerns. Would be interested in hearing any other views?!

poor consultation :( the pharmacist should let the patient know that they are restricted to only supply a certain medicine for regular contraception.

Shes busy and pharmacist wont take no for an answer - its a great service and delivered professionally but seems more time intensive than it needs to be.
